Chapter 46: A Good Calculation, but the Wrong Person
by Ink HubThe Huangque Pharmacist’s expression shifted to one of utter shock!
“What? How is this possible! You actually broke my mental power binding!” He stared in disbelief, nearly jumping off the ground in his agitation.
“Is it really that hard?” Lu Jin gave a casual smile and drifted gracefully down to the ground.
“Brat, are you also an alchemist?” As the pharmacist’s face worked through a dozen emotions, a trace of killing intent surfaced in his eyes. “Were you sent by them to kill me?”
Lu Jin and Long Xiwei both looked surprised. This Medicine King Secret Realm appeared small, but the grudges within seemed quite tangled.
Buzz!
While they were still processing the situation, the Huangque Pharmacist’s face changed again. He laughed wildly as his mental power transformed into sharp, invisible blades, lunging frantically at Lu Jin!
“Young Master Lu, be careful!” Seeing the sudden assault, Long Xiwei immediately threw the talismans she had been clutching. In the blink of an eye, they were stuck to the pharmacist’s chest and back. “Stop now! Or you die!”
Long Xiwei’s threat rang out, but the pharmacist only gave a cold, mocking laugh. “Your tricks for dealing with beasts have no killing power against me!”
Gulp!
The pharmacist flipped his hand and swallowed a white medicinal pill. As it entered his throat, a surge of energy erupted, instantly vibrating Long Xiwei’s talismans into mere dust. Her expression paled. This old man’s antidotes weren’t just for poison; they could even neutralize hexes, curses, and control techniques!
“Old thing, stop wasting time. Now, let me show you my methods!”
Seeing Long Xiwei’s distress, Lu Jin hesitated no longer. Following the foundational principles of mental manipulation he had just acquired, he condensed his spiritual strength into several flickering serpents that coiled toward the pharmacist.
“What! Those are serpents? I can only manifest mental vines, yet you can condense serpents! This is impossible! Brat, who the hell are you!” The pharmacist was left dumbfounded by the display.
“Behave yourself. If you interfere with the refining of the antidote, I will end you.” Lu Jin’s voice was indifferent, yet it carried an indisputable authority.
As his voice fell, the mental serpents bound the pharmacist so tightly that he was pinned face-down to the ground, unable to move even an inch. The powerful mental pressure began to seep into his mind, causing his thoughts to turn sluggish and slow.
“Young Master Lu, the antidote isn’t finished yet. If you do this, I’m afraid…” Long Xiwei’s brow was knit tight with worry and confusion.
“I will finish the refining. Just stay calm.” Lu Jin gave a faint smile and sent a surge of mental power directly into the pill furnace.
Is this all? It really is too simple… Lu Jin muttered to himself. Although he didn’t want to insult the pharmacist further, the feeling the refining process gave him was exactly that: simple as water.
Long Xiwei fell silent. She felt as though she had discovered yet another blind spot in Lu Jin’s capabilities.
“You brat! Let me go! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! Argh!” The pharmacist roared in his mental binds, his eyes filled with thick disbelief. His killing intent billowed out in frantic waves.
Lu Jin remained unmoved. His only priority was to finish the pill. The herbs were already inside; completing the process was as natural as water flowing in a stream.
“Stop barking!” Long Xiwei couldn’t take the noise anymore. She walked over and slapped the pharmacist, knocking him unconscious. Then, she looked at Lu Jin with complex emotions in her eyes, almost beyond expectation.
Does this guy actually know how to refine pills? If he does, why did he come here to take such risks? Was it just because he didn’t know which herbs were needed? She couldn’t wrap her head around it.
As time passed, Lu Jin took over for only half an hour before a thick medicinal fragrance began to drift from the furnace.
“It’s done!” Lu Jin grinned and threw open the furnace door.
Using his mental power to lift the pill, the pearl-like antidote emerged. Its surface was round and lustrous, radiating a faint white glow. The scent was so pure that the Huangque Pharmacist actually woke up from the smell, only to be so shocked that he nearly fainted again.
“No… impossible! This is absolutely impossible!” He stared with wide eyes. Refining the antidote for the Primal Chaos Poison was easy at the start, but the final stage was the most critical. It required extreme mental focus: one had to precisely control the temperature while managing the release and synthesis of the herbal properties. A single mistake meant total failure.
It was usually an exhausting, hours-long process. Yet this strange brat had finished it in record time, and the quality had reached the “Supreme Grade”!
Furthermore, Lu Jin’s mental power was still majestic; he didn’t look tired at all. The pharmacist was speechless. What kind of freak had he run into?
“Young Master Lu, you really finished it?” Long Xiwei was equally stunned.
Lu Jin nodded. “Mmhmm. I got lucky. The quality seems decent.”
Shock gave way to immense joy for Long Xiwei. “Then let us leave this place quickly!”
Lu Jin nodded. After stashing the antidote, he directly sucked the pharmacist’s pill furnace into his spatial ring. “Thanks for the help, pharmacist.” Lu Jin grinned and prepared to leave.
The Huangque Pharmacist suddenly exploded in rage. “You aren’t going anywhere!”
A pill flew out from somewhere and entered his mouth. In the next second, his internal medicinal power surged. Throughout the secret realm, the herbs growing in the fields began to tremble. Orbs of light rose from the ground and shot into the sky, intertwining to form a massive array. Lu Jin and Long Xiwei were positioned right at its center.
Huh? Lu Jin looked up at the formation. He noticed it had signs of overlapping with the Beast-Tamer Grand Formation outside.
“Not good! He wants you to break the formation! He’s using this to force you to break the outer array as well!” Long Xiwei recognized the trap immediately.
Lu Jin narrowed his eyes. “The old man’s calculations are good: unfortunately, he picked the wrong person!”
As Lu Jin spoke, a terrifying surge of mental power instantly severed all connections between the pharmacist and the external world. Though the array had been activated, it was now like a dragon without a head. It couldn’t even confirm its target. The majestic energy within the formation began to bash around aimlessly like a headless fly, its lethality dissipating.
“What? How did you do that!” The pharmacist was dumbfounded once more. Only someone with mental power far superior to his own could achieve such a feat. Yet he refused to admit that he had lost to such a young, unknown person.
“Old thing, I planned to let you go, but you tried to kill me. In that case, let me give you a hand on your journey!” Lu Jin’s gaze was icy. His mental power transformed into a blade and stormed into the pharmacist’s Niwan Palace.
The pharmacist’s face turned ashen instantly. His body trembled as his eyes lost all focus. It was as if his very soul had been ripped from his body.
“You… you destroyed my mental source…” He muttered, retaining one final spark of clarity.
“The reason I’m not killing you is that you still have some value. Those Beast Tamers outside have been waiting for you for a long time.” Lu Jin smiled indifferently. A rope of spiritual energy lunged out and bound the pharmacist, leaving him floating in the air. He followed the duo out of the Medicine King Secret Realm.
“Wait! You bastard, release the Huangque Pharmacist at once!”
Just as they stepped back into the Beast-Tamer Grand Formation, a sharp shout rang out. Lu Jin glanced sideways and recognized the newcomers: it was Song Wen and the other experts of the Song family.
