Chapter 509
by fanqienovelChapter 509: Uncle, I really hate it when someone bullies little girls.
“Although many scholars believed that the Wawiyalocroc belonged to the false crocodiles and was likely a giant Loricatosaurus…”
“I thought they were more probably a kind of theropod dinosaur that had already grown larger in the late Triassic.”
“If they were some more basic dinosaur-like creatures, that would have been even more fun.”
Trilobite looked at the body he had shaped for the “new customer” and nodded quietly.
False crocodiles could walk on two legs, but their hip and thigh bones connected in a way that wasn’t as good as dinosaurs. This meant they couldn’t be fast or agile even when they walked on two legs.
Growing larger was also very hard for them.
Loricatosaurus and two-legged false crocodiles struggled all through the Triassic to get big, but dinosaurs did it easily.
By the late Triassic, a Ceratosaurus had already shown up, reaching 7.3 meters in length and weighing about 2 tons.
It was surprising that the first dinosaurs to rule in size were from the Ceratosaurus family.
On the other hand, the biggest and last Loricatosauria, the Fasolaroc, could reach 8 meters in length and over 2 tons in weight. But that size was pretty much the limit for Fasolaroc and all land false crocodiles.
Once they hit that size, land false crocodiles lost their two-legged walking and also lost their agility and quickness.
In Earth’s life history, only dinosaurs could grow larger while keeping good agility and flexibility.
“And…”
“I hadn’t expected the original customer service young lady to turn into an animal directly.”
“Was this some active defense plan against poaching or human damage?”
Trilobite remembered that some conservation areas, besides putting up signs and fences, hired patrols and even dogs to chase and catch bad poachers.
He seemed to recall a bloody fight that broke out between rangers and nearby villagers in a gorilla conservation area in Africa over poaching and water.
“Things were getting interesting.”
“But this customer service young lady from ‘Lake Valaharl’ seemed to have sickly attributes…”
“Uh… Was she all right?”
“Making her body part of the dinosaur order wasn’t just because I liked it.”
“I remembered giving her an ‘Exhaust Fan’ before?”
“I gave that useless thing I won in a lottery directly to the young lady.”
“It was useless then, but now it was useful. That item could be swapped for an air sac breathing system in the ‘Evolution STEAM Mall,’ saving the young lady some money.”
Just because an “Exhaust Fan” was traded for an “air sac breathing system,” Trilobite changed the Wawiyalocroc into a dinosaur-like creature.
“But the Exhaust Fan and ‘air sac breathing system’ matched well.”
“Good, one thing was done!”
“But…”
Trilobite swallowed the last piece of tasty meaty bone from the Lufengosaurus and thought hard.
“Things were getting worse.”
“Weak caretakers, like Themis here, had already chosen to quit.”
"More experienced caretakers who had weathered many storms, like sister Valaharl, personally joined the fray."
"This showed how desperately urgent the situation had become."
"The mass migration and mingling of species triggered by climate change had already begun."
"If mishandled, fragile ecosystems and species could easily face extinction."
Trilobite recalled the tragic history after North and South America connected via the Panama land bridge—how southern marsupials and native hoofed mammals suffered devastating losses against northern placental mammals.
He remembered the ecological catastrophe when rats and other mammals reached Australia through human introduction.
He also thought of recent online claims that Australia’s stray cat culling caused rodent explosions.
"This argument…"
"shows a lack of basic knowledge."
Truth was, stray cats in Australia barely hunted rats!
For one simple reason—easier prey existed!
Local lizards, small marsupials, and native Birds had never encountered cats, completely clueless against such fearsome hunters.
They acted utterly helpless before felines.
Why chase tricky rats when slower targets abounded?
Thus rodents comprised minimal portions of Australian strays’ diets, while endemic species became their staple food.
Rumors suggested some cats, gorging in predator-free environments, had begun to grow larger.
Wildcats approaching lynx sizes were already photographed.
Soon, these enlarged strays might attack naked ape infants without difficulty.
Reducing their numbers was therefore sensible—and unrelated to rodent surges.
"In short, extinction waves are inevitable during environmental upheavals and species exchanges."
"I can hardly prevent this."
"But through my intervention, my spawn must survive this calamity."
"Plans require acceleration!"
"First…"
As Trilobite pondered his next focus…
【YourBasesisUnderAttack】
The system’s ominous alert echoed again.
"Ah…"
"Will this never cease?"
"How much longer must I rush about exhaustedly?"
"I need a solution."
Trilobite checked the mini-map.
The assault targeted a long-neglected "conservation area" bearing a bizarre name—"Tritium."
"Hold on…"
"What struck me most here wasn’t the name."
"But its overseer—a ‘child laborer’ called… Zizi?"
Rage surged through Trilobite instantly.
"Uncle here truly despises those who bully little girls!"
He stormed off.
Passing the former "Lake Valaharl conservation area," he noticed its protective mist had completely dissipated.
The exposed lake area lay barren.
Yet its core area remained intact—fungal pillars still towered over the heart of the region.
The outskirts retained clusters of small, round mushroom patches.
"Sniff… sniff…"
Trilobite caught a whiff of something odd.
"Perfect! I’ve got a plan!"
"Hang tight just a bit longer, Zizi."
