Chapter 576
by fanqienovelChapter 576: Qi Fei’s Gift
Just as if mocking him, Mitch Friedman’s phone rang again. However, he had no intention of answering it. He knew it was the same bad news he had witnessed.
These useless fools!
Mitch Friedman wished he could disband the entire operations team.
“Dragon Knight, you have finally returned!”
Major Mo hurried to the lobby as soon as he received the news. Seeing Lin Mo unharmed, he let out a sigh of relief. He too hadn’t eaten or slept well these past few days. Ultimately, Lin Mo had taken the fall for them, and they had to make it up to him somehow.
However, until now, Lin Mo still had no idea about the “Fenrir” alloy issue, other than the fact that the Americans had secretly drugged him.
After all, it was the CIA, who executed their plans flawlessly. Lin Mo was completely unaware that he had quietly been interrogated, making him marvel at human intelligence in this world, where even a powerful Dragon Knight could be caught off guard.
“Hello, Major Mo! I’m back,” Lin Mo nodded and saluted.
Dragon Knight? Was that not Lin Mo’s name? When did this guy change it?
In public, the embassy military attaché referred to Lin Mo by his code name rather than the name on his aviation expert ID to avoid unnecessary leaks.
Qi Fei was puzzled by the way Major Mo addressed Lin Mo. Was it a nickname? More likely, it was a code name, which made her view Lin Mo’s team as mysterious.
“It’s good you’re back. Professor Yan has been asking about your whereabouts. I had no choice but to use your meeting with classmates as an excuse. Who is this?” Major Mo, while having received Qi Fei’s background from national intelligence, pretended not to know her. After all, acting all-knowing would create a sense of distance and suspicion.
As a senior intelligence officer, the ability to connect with people was essential.
“Well, this is Qi Fei, my college classmate. She runs a design company. I came to Los Angeles mainly to attend an event she organized. I didn’t expect to get caught up in this mess—she almost got kidnapped too; she is a victim as well.”
Lin Mo sighed at the thought of this situation. He felt deeply sorry for Qi Fei, having dragged her into this trouble. Those bizarre individuals were truly despicable, but when it came to a confrontation, he rarely held back.
“Hello!” Qi Fei politely shook hands with Major Mo.
Major Mo smiled and said, “I’m really sorry for involving you in this. Don’t worry, the country will compensate you. We won’t let a single one of those guys get away. Please rest at the hotel for today. Tomorrow, I’ll send someone to escort you home. There’s nothing to worry about now; we’ll assign a team of professionals to ensure your safety and escort you back. Such a thing will never happen again.”
Up until now, Major Mo remained tight-lipped, revealing nothing. Although Lin Mo and Qi Fei were entangled in the events, some matters were too significant to disclose to more people. It wasn’t a matter of distrust in Lin Mo; knowing more made them more vulnerable.
Just speculating and doubting had already stirred up such a commotion. If they learned any concrete details, it could result in a major confrontation, potentially even a war.
Even though the whereabouts of the “Fenrir” alloy remained unknown, Major Mo and all those privy to the operation had been ordered to keep quiet. Lin Mo sensed that something unusual was afoot, or else he would have received a proper briefing by now.
“Thank you, Major Mo!”
Qi Fei was not the type to make unreasonable demands. Instead, she understood how to measure the situation. She had already inferred that it was a special task from the country, which had provoked some unidentified organizations or forces to engage in a struggle.
As the other party claimed, this was an accident; normally, such secret disputes wouldn’t involve ordinary people.
Even though Qi Fei had grievances, there was little a woman with only a small company could do against them—she didn’t even have the qualifications or channels to confront them.
“Xiao Chen!” Major Mo glanced around and called out to a security personnel waiting in the corner. “Get this lady a hotel room, charge it to our account. Yes, later let the Americans pay for it.”
He took a little jab at the CIA, considering it a small act of revenge on the Americans.
Qi Fei was left speechless. Lin Mo signaled her not to worry, saying, “Don’t worry; I won’t sell you out. Just follow the organization’s arrangements.”
“We should have dinner together later. It’s on me, just as a little treat for Qi Fei after all the scare!” Major Mo was spending the organization’s money, offering a small gesture of compensation to the frightened civilian and to Lin Mo, who had taken the fall.
“Great! That sounds wonderful.”
Lin Mo quickly spoke up on Qi Fei’s behalf. It was the least he could do after the stressful days they had gone through.
He shouted to the front desk in the lobby, “Waiter, tell Professor Yan in room 1519 that we’re having dinner together tonight!”
“Uh!” Major Mo raised his hands in surrender, a pained expression on his face. “I can only add two more people at most. If you call your whole crew over, I’ll have to sell my underwear!”
Major Mo’s humor made Qi Fei and Lin Mo chuckle.
However, Major Mo never expected that this dinner would leave him regretting it forever and be etched in his memory.
Lin Mo had an endless appetite that even the restaurant owner was taken aback, with him nearly emptying a cold storage unit.
Others, including Professor Yan and Qi Fei, almost gave up on their meals, joining the restaurant owner in watching how this monster Lin Mo devoured everything in sight.
Vegetables, meats, eggs, snacks—he accepted it all, and almost half the kitchen was busy just preparing for Lin Mo. He practically reserved a banquet with his appetite.
Deep down, Major Mo felt a sting. No, it should be his wallet that was hurting. After Lin Mo happily finished his fifth plate of food, he started to regret bringing them to this somewhat upscale restaurant.
If he had known, he might as well have gone for a cheap Mexican restaurant to minimize losses, or bought hundreds of pounds of meat to host a barbecue himself.
Qi Fei, who had barely eaten anything and felt full, kindly passed food to Lin Mo while giving a few reproachful glances at Major Mo. “You soldiers are really stingy! Look at how starved our wooden friend is! Why can’t the army serve decent meals?”
It felt unjust to take the blame for that.
If Lin Mo weren’t a pilot and under a no-alcohol order, Major Mo might have wished to call for the strongest cocktails just to knock this foodie out.
Lin Mo was definitely enjoying his meal. After being treated to dozens of meals by White Wolf a few days earlier, Major Mo had now treated him to nearly seventy servings. He patted his belly, finally feeling a delightful fullness.
There were still good people in this world, thought the Dragon Knight.
Although his bank card wasn’t maxed out, it was close. Looking at the long bill, Major Mo felt an urge to rob a bank.
“Wake up, Lin Mo, the sun is shining on your backside!”
The next morning, Qi Fei knocked on the door, finding Lin Mo still half-asleep. He had exhausted all his light element energy using the “Wings of Victory” spell yesterday, which had prevented him from jumping out of the wall to impress the girls.
Even after a heavy meal, he felt slightly lethargic.
This was no different from many people wanting to sleep after eating—they just typically felt this more intensely compared to ordinary folks. Usually, many Dragon Knights kept themselves only about eighty percent full to ensure alertness; no giant dragon would want their knight to become fat, making it hard to take off.
“What’s going on? It’s so early! Didn’t you say we’d leave after lunch?” Lin Mo managed to say before Qi Fei dragged him to the elevator.
“You lazy pig, it’s already ten o’clock! Hurry up! I have something special to show you. It’s a gift I prepared for you.” Qi Fei was as energetic as ever, pulling Lin Mo into the elevator.
“A gift? Can’t you just bring it to my room? Where are we going?”
Lin Mo yawned long and then said, “Are you giving me a plane? An F-35 or an X-47?” He couldn’t help but laugh, thinking if she truly had such amazing capabilities, they wouldn’t have been chased around the other day.
“You’ll see when we get there,” Qi Fei said, rolling her eyes.
Covered by a white cloth, an unidentified object over two meters tall appeared in the lobby, with a hotel security guard standing watch beside it, having set up a barrier. Some aviation experts enjoying breakfast on the first floor occasionally glanced over, clearly curious.
Of course, what lay beneath the white cloth couldn’t be an aircraft.
Seeing such a large object, Lin Mo guessed it was the “gift” Qi Fei had for him, but this was just too big; he had no idea how she brought it all the way to Las Vegas.
“See? This is the gift I’ve prepared for you, shipped overnight from Hollywood! Ta-da!” Qi Fei ran over and pulled off the white cloth.
“Wow!”
A chorus of gasps filled the air.
Lin Mo’s eyes widened, and he felt fully awake, never expecting Qi Fei would gift him such an extravagant present.
It was a full set of magnificent, dazzling armor for a knight, striking in design with aggressive-looking protective gear, complete with a giant sword on his back that could rival a door. Lin Mo had no doubt that if the material was up to standard, that giant sword could slice a tank in half like cutting through butter.
“What do you think? Are you satisfied with this gift?” Qi Fei smiled sweetly at Lin Mo.
