Among the three, Sun Bingcheng was the weakest. Though also in the mid-stage of Qi Condensation, his belongings were pitiful.
Inside his storage pouch were just over a hundred scattered spirit stones, two first-grade magic tools, a few bottles of healing pills, and several basic spell scrolls—nothing more.
“So poor…”
Yu Xian shook his head. Ironically, the most valuable thing on Sun Bingcheng was the storage pouch itself—it could fetch six or seven hundred spirit stones.
He transferred everything into his own pouch and picked up Liu Xue’s storage bag next.
Liu Xue’s bag had more: over six hundred spirit stones, a top-grade magic armor, several Lesser Spirit Pills, one Spirit Recovery Pill, and a number of basic spell scrolls.
Still, there were no surprises. Nothing Yu Xian didn’t already possess.
That top-grade armor was decent. Yu Xian quickly refined it, erased Liu Xue’s imprint, and made it his own. With a thought, the armor could now be summoned and equipped.
Poor Liu Xue—he had died before even reacting. He hadn’t seen Yu Xian attack. As soon as he entered the mine tunnel, he was caught in the shockwave from that Foundation Establishment-level spell clash and fainted on the spot. He never got the chance to activate his armor.
So now, the armor belonged to Yu Xian.
He transferred everything and then turned to the third and most promising storage pouch—Huang Hanxiao’s.
As a seasoned Qi Condensation peak-stage cultivator, Huang’s belongings would surely be valuable.
Yu Xian channeled spiritual energy and looked inside.
His eyes immediately lit up.
The pouch was brimming with items.
Thirty mid-grade spirit stones, neatly arranged
Eighteen pill bottles, some of which had toppled over—clearly due to Huang’s frantic struggle during his final moments
Among these was a particularly eye-catching white jade bottle, labeled with three bold characters:
Foundation Pill (筑基丹)
This was clearly a pill Huang had saved for his eventual breakthrough. Once he felt fully prepared—or perhaps once he’d collected a few more of them—he’d attempt to advance to the Foundation Establishment realm.
But now… it all belonged to Yu Xian.
There were also two high-quality magic tools:
A green longsword, far sharper and more refined than the one Yu Xian had obtained from Zhao Mulin. It radiated spiritual energy—almost approaching third-grade quality.
A jade mirror, also nearly third-grade.
Both were clearly personalized items, not mass-produced by the artifact workshops. They even had names engraved:
Bamboo Edge Sword (竹锋剑)
Illusion-Breaking Mirror (破幻镜)
Then, Yu Xian found two spell scrolls:
Fire Flood Dragon Technique
Water Dragon Vortex
Both were powerful techniques.
Any low-tier, common spells were long discarded by Huang Hanxiao. Only these high-level ones remained.
Finally, Yu Xian noticed a piece of sheepskin tucked in the corner.
Curious, he pulled it out. It was a map, roughly drawn with twisting paths and place names. Several major cities and mountain ranges were labeled, all pointing toward a location named:
Da Kui Mountain Manor (大魁山庄)
Along the edge were a few faded words:
“Hidden Treasure Map of True Spirit Immortal. Fortune favors the lucky—those who find this may inherit a legacy.”
“A treasure map?”
Yu Xian’s eyes sparkled as he examined it closely.
It clearly pointed to a hidden treasure, supposedly belonging to a mysterious figure called True Spirit Immortal (真灵上人).
Of course, Yu Xian had neither the strength nor time to pursue this right now. Even Huang Hanxiao had likely kept it for the future—waiting until after reaching Foundation Establishment before making the journey. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he have acted on it?
Yu Xian stored the map away.
“Not important right now. But maybe one day, who knows how big that legacy is? A person titled ‘Immortal’… probably at least a Golden Core expert.”
“When the time is right, and I’m strong enough, I’ll go explore it.”
With that, he packed away all the items. But very soon, he noticed a problem—
His storage pouches were full.
He only had low-grade pouches, and their space was very limited.
Normally, a Qi Condensation cultivator only needed one such pouch. But Yu Xian was clearly not normal.
“I need to get a mid-grade pouch soon… carrying around multiple small ones is risky. In a fight, if I pull out the wrong one when I need pills or talismans, that mistake could get me killed.”
He sighed and stored the five pouches as best he could.
A mid-grade storage pouch was worth three times his current wealth—its space was ten times larger than a low-grade one. But that was something for the future.
Clearing his mind, Yu Xian sat down to heal and cultivate.
Three days passed.
The disappearance of Liu Xue and Sun Bingcheng didn’t raise too much concern.
But Huang Hanxiao’s death caused a huge uproar!
And yes—it was death, not disappearance.
Because his Life Jade Token shattered!
Although he was an outer sect disciple, Huang Hanxiao was favored by the Hundred Mines Division supervisor and seen as a promising candidate for Foundation Establishment.
He was granted an internal disciple’s privilege—a soul-bound life token.
If it remained intact, it meant he was still alive, even if missing.
But now, the token was broken—which could only mean he had died!
The Hundred Mines supervisor flew into a rage and demanded a full investigation. The Disciplinary Hall took the matter seriously.
Because Huang Hanxiao wasn’t just any outer sect disciple.
The Disciplinary Hall had both inner and outer branches and was one of the most secretive departments in the entire Baiyun Sect—handling everything from rule violations to criminal cases.
Soon, the Outer Sect Disciplinary Hall sent three cultivators, all peak-stage Qi Condensation experts, to investigate Huang’s death.
If he was killed by rogue cultivators outside, they would avenge him.
If he was murdered by a fellow disciple, sect laws demanded blood.
According to the last witness, Huang had gone to the Lieyang Mining Zone with Sun Bingcheng.
So, on the morning of the fourth day, the teleportation array flared.
Three cold-faced men in their forties stepped out—Disciplinary Hall members, all at Qi Condensation Perfection.
They were cultivators who had failed multiple Foundation Establishment attempts and had their roots severed.
Now unable to advance, they were cruel and merciless.
(If Xu Haoming failed to reach Foundation Establishment someday, he would likely end up like them.)
“All Lieyang Mining Zone miners—get out here!”
The central man’s shout boomed like thunder, uncaring if any disciples were cultivating inside.
Most miners were indeed training for the upcoming Sect Selection Exam in three and a half months. The sudden shout startled many—more than half lost control of their spiritual energy.
One man even coughed blood in shock and rage.
Doors slammed open, and angry disciples stormed out—only to fall silent when they saw who was standing there.
Disciplinary Hall uniforms.
Not people you dared provoke.
Why were they here?
Yu Xian also stepped out calmly, his expression neutral, mingling with the rest of the confused crowd—seventy-three in total, now standing before the three investigators.
But the Disciplinary Hall members said nothing at first. They simply stared at the crowd, silently scanning every face for a full incense stick’s time.
They noted every expression—confusion, fear, surprise, panic—all within the range of normal reactions.
Eventually, the senior among them spoke coldly:
“We’re here for one simple reason. Has anyone seen Huang Hanxiao recently? Yes, your steward Huang.”
The crowd looked bewildered.
They’d been cultivating non-stop. Who knew where Huang had gone?
The man’s frown deepened.
“Fine then. Has anyone seen Sun Bingcheng?”
Everyone paused. They knew Sun Bingcheng. They’d seen him.
But how were they supposed to answer that?
No one dared speak first.
The lead man’s eyes darkened.
Did Sun lure Huang here and murder him? Or is someone among them hiding the truth?
“Don’t be afraid. I am Liang Hucheng from the Disciplinary Hall. Anyone with information will be handsomely rewarded—spirit stones, pills, help with cultivation—you have my word.”
Liang Hucheng’s voice was calm, almost tempting.
But he underestimated them.
Even if some had seen something, no one was foolish enough to speak.
Who wanted to become the prime suspect?
Rumor had it that if the Disciplinary Hall couldn’t find a culprit, they’d just punish the one who reported it until they confessed under torture.
Who would risk that?
Seeing seventy-three blank, silent faces, Liang Hucheng finally cracked a bit.
He narrowed his eyes and hissed,
“Fine. Rewards for those who speak—but if we find you knew something and didn’t report it, the punishment will be tenfold! Not just expulsion—you’ll face life and death consequences!”
Still… silence.
Heh…
Liang let out a cold laugh.
“Very well. Someone here knows something—you refuse to speak? No matter. I’ll ask the Inner Sect Elders for the Celestial Divination Mirror. Once we use that, we’ll know everything. And anyone who hid the truth? Will be punished as an accomplice!”
But still, not a single voice replied.
Because aside from Yu Xian, no one truly knew what happened.
And if they didn’t know… what was there to say?
“Senior Brother, maybe they really don’t know?”
One of the men behind Liang stepped forward and whispered, “We’re not getting anything from them. Should we start direct investigation?”
Liang’s frown eased. He nodded coldly.
“You’re right. These trash can’t even take a bribe properly. Time to search them directly.”
He waved them off.
“Since you know nothing, get lost.”
