Inside the room, the heat still lingered, but there was now a radiant light illuminating everything.
That light was all too familiar to Yu Xian. It was the same glow that had vanished from the Spirit Shield ever since it was damaged and fell from the fifth to the fourth grade!
Yue Pingfeng stood smiling, though sweat still beaded on his forehead despite having wiped his face.
Repairing a fifth-grade Spirit Shield was no easy feat, but he had succeeded.
He held the shield aloft with one hand, letting it float in mid-air, and boasted with a laugh, “So? What do you think? My crafting skills are still impressive, right? Even that Xiao Wusheng might not dare claim he can refine a fifth-grade pill, but I can refine fifth-grade magical treasures any time!”
Yu Xian nodded repeatedly and raised his thumb. “Senior’s crafting skill is truly earth-shaking and ghost-crying! I admire you immensely! That I didn’t formally become your disciple back then… that was my blind ignorance!”
“Hahaha!”
Yue Pingfeng laughed heartily, clearly pleased. He waved a hand and said, “Ah, that’s all in the past. Let’s not bring it up again. I know you felt bad, but Xiao Wusheng’s a good guy. If you had tried to switch masters, I wouldn’t have agreed! Hahaha!”
Yu Xian smiled along. “Senior, you’re so magnanimous, it makes me feel ashamed. If there’s ever an opportunity to learn even a sliver of your peerless crafting skills, it would be a lifetime honor!”
“Hahaha! You brat…”
Yue Pingfeng pointed at him, laughing. “Good! I’ll teach you!”
Yu Xian’s smile froze for a moment.
Yue Pingfeng kept smiling, but now his eyes were filled with… expectation.
He knew Yu Xian had just been flattering him, speaking playfully. But now that the words were said, he might as well voice what was truly on his mind.
Back then, Yu Xian had expressed interest in learning crafting from him while formally studying alchemy under Xiao Wusheng. But Yue Pingfeng had rejected the idea—he believed a disciple shouldn’t have two masters.
But now that Xiao Wusheng’s fate was uncertain, and Yu Xian had advanced to the Foundation Establishment stage at such a young age… his future was limitless.
And since Yu Xian was loyal and sincere, he was obviously the best candidate to pass on Yue Pingfeng’s forging legacy.
And besides—he never said he would take him as a disciple. Just teach him some crafting knowledge. Whether Yu Xian called him Master didn’t really matter.
As long as he learned, the bond would be there.
Now the roles had reversed.
Back then, Yu Xian looked at him with eyes full of hope—and he had rejected him.
Now, it was Yue Pingfeng’s eyes filled with expectation…
Would Yu Xian turn him down?
Yu Xian’s smile slowly faded, becoming calm. His eyes, however, were quietly complex.
Praise was just praise. After all, Yue Pingfeng was a senior who had helped him. Saying nice things was only polite.
But learning crafting…
Take on another master?
He silently shook his head.
He already had one master. And he would only ever have one—Xiao Wusheng.
So, he took a deep breath, bowed slightly, and said, “If Senior is willing to teach me crafting, I would gladly accept. But I… will not call you Master. I already have one, and only one teacher.”
“No need to be a disciple.”
Yue Pingfeng’s eyes brightened, and he replied happily, “You’re at Foundation Establishment, and so am I. I wouldn’t dare call myself your teacher. Let’s treat each other as brothers. How’s that?”
“Ah?”
Yu Xian was dumbfounded and visibly awkward. “How can I possibly call you brother, Senior? That’s not right…”
“Why not?”
Yue Pingfeng said seriously, “I’m 94 years old. How old are you?”
“I…”
Yu Xian scratched his head helplessly. “I just turned 20…”
“See? Only 74 years apart!”
Yue Pingfeng laughed heartily. “In the future, when you reach the Golden Core stage and gain a lifespan of a thousand years, what’s 74 years? Even Nascent Soul cultivators, some thousands of years old, still call each other ‘Daoist Friend’. Age doesn’t matter anymore.”
Yu Xian forced a smile, not knowing how to respond.
“Well? Yes or no?”
Seeing his reluctance, Yue Pingfeng’s smile faded, and he asked with a serious face, “Give me an answer.”
“This…”
Yu Xian scratched his head again, struggling for a long time. Seeing Yue Pingfeng begin to look displeased, he finally sighed and nodded. “Alright… fine…”
“Hahaha! From now on, we’re brothers. You call me Big Brother, I’ll call you Little Brother!”
“Okay… sure…”
Yu Xian could only laugh awkwardly, the embarrassment written all over his face.
“This is your treasure.”
Yue Pingfeng laughed and handed him the Spirit Shield. “As for the repair cost? Consider it a gift from your big brother. Fifteen thousand spirit stones—I’ve got it covered. You’re just entering Foundation Establishment; you probably don’t have much savings. Keep your spirit stones.”
Yu Xian accepted the shield, but shook his head. “Business is business. Big Brother, you’ve already worked hard to repair my treasure—I can’t let you pay for it as well.”
With that, he took out a storage pouch and, before Yue Pingfeng could refuse, he added seriously, “Big Brother, if you don’t take this, then our brotherhood ends here.”
Yue Pingfeng, about to raise a hand in refusal, froze.
Looking at Yu Xian’s firm expression, he sighed and smiled. “You really… sigh.”
He could only take the pouch and transfer the fifteen thousand spirit stones from it.
Yu Xian smiled, then stored away the Spirit Shield without testing it—he trusted Yue Pingfeng’s skill.
He then said seriously, “Big Brother, I still have some matters to attend to and won’t be able to stay here and study crafting for now. But give me three months. I’ll come back and study with you.”
Yue Pingfeng nodded. “Alright. Take care of your business. This place is peaceful enough for now. If you have free time, come find me.”
Yu Xian gave a deep bow. “Alright, Big Brother. I’ll be off.”
Yue Pingfeng laughed and waved him off. “I was thinking of sharing some wine, but if you’ve got things to do, go. Cultivate well!”
Yu Xian turned and left without another word.
Outside, Su Xiaoduo greeted him with a smile. “Congratulations, Senior. Your treasure has been restored.”
Yu Xian nodded without speaking and walked ahead.
Now that his purchases were made and the shield repaired, the next step was to find Sun Daneng and the others.
If they grew tired of waiting and left, finding them again would be near impossible.
They had stolen eight of his spirit beasts. If he didn’t make them cough up tenfold, that wouldn’t be Yu Xian’s style.
If he couldn’t find them, he wouldn’t let it bother him—but since fate brought them together again, there was no way he’d let it slide.
That kind of thing could become a mental knot later—a true demon in the heart.
He headed straight to the appraisal room, where Sun Daneng and the others were still waiting.
When Yu Xian entered, Sun Daneng was the first to stand, smiling brightly. “Ah, Brother, you’re back!”
The other four also stood and smiled, their earlier impatience gone.
Yu Xian smiled. “I was out buying things, haggling over prices. Sorry to keep you waiting, brothers.”
“No problem, no problem!”
Sun Daneng waved it off. “You done shopping?”
“All taken care of.”
Yu Xian nodded.
“Then let’s go. I have something important to discuss with you once we’re out of the Goldscale Pavilion.”
He then exchanged a look with Shi Yuanmu, and the group of six made their way downstairs and out of the main gate of the Goldscale Pavilion.
Su Xiaoduo stood smiling. “Safe travels, Senior! Please visit again!”
Yu Xian raised a hand in farewell but said nothing, leaving swiftly with the others.
Su Xiaoduo then jumped up excitedly and ran back inside. What a lucky day!
Meanwhile, Yu Xian walked with Sun Daneng and the others.
Sun Daneng smiled. “Brother, are you planning to stay in the city to cultivate, or will you come with us on a little adventure?”
“Oh?”
Yu Xian’s eyes narrowed. “What kind of adventure, Brother?”
“I told you earlier I had something important to say,” Sun Daneng said earnestly. “I wouldn’t reveal this to outsiders, but you’re one of us now. You deserve to know.”
Yu Xian frowned slightly, remaining silent.
Sun Daneng lowered his voice. “We’re just passing through this city, selling a few goods. Our real goal is a secret realm!”
“A secret realm…”
Yu Xian’s expression shifted in surprise. “What kind of secret realm? Have you scouted it? Is it dangerous?”
Sun Daneng shook his head. “It’s a secret realm. If we could scout it fully, we’d have entered already. We don’t know if it’s dangerous—but as cultivators, we seek fortune amid danger. Even a single artifact inside could be a heavenly opportunity!”
The other four nodded along. Hu Yang said, “Brother Daneng is right. You’ve got to at least explore it.”
Yu Xian nodded and said solemnly, “Brother, since you’ve entrusted me with this secret, I’ll naturally go with you. Let’s see what this secret realm holds!”
Sun Daneng’s smile widened with joy.
So easy to convince!
He clapped his hands. “Since Brother agrees, let’s not waste time. Let’s go!”
“Let’s go.”
Yu Xian nodded, and the six of them swiftly left the city, soaring through the air toward the south.
