Escape?
With over ten Core Formation cultivators on the verge of collapse after a full day of intense fighting, escape was no longer possible.
Had they fled at the beginning, maybe.
But now, every retreat route had already been cut off by the thirty-plus Core cultivators from the Loose Cultivator Alliance.
If any of them tried to flee now, they’d be blasted to death—one spell from each attacker would be enough to annihilate any lone runner.
They had no way out.
“Lord Wan Hun said it! Beg for mercy, and you may be spared!”
“Kneel and let us bind you—only then can you live!”
“Still not kneeling!? Die, all of you!”
“Hahaha! Red Shao, you bitch, remember me? I asked you to refine a Grade-4 Linglong Redcloud Pill for me. You gave excuse after excuse—and even had the audacity to look down on me because I was a rogue cultivator!? Let’s see how proud you are now! Kneel!”
Voices echoed all around.
Under the crushing pressure of thirty-four Core Formation cultivators, the dozen or so surviving cultivators of Medicine King Valley found themselves at a dead end.
Their expressions varied—some defiant, some conflicted, some cold, some already leaning toward surrender.
Then—
Gu Hanfeng suddenly knelt first, shouting:
“I surrender! I surrender! I pledge loyalty to the Loose Cultivator Alliance!”
“GU HANFENG!? YOU TRAITOR!!”
His surrender shocked everyone—
Even those considering surrender hadn’t dared to be so decisive!
The Grand Elder of Medicine King Valley—at peak Core Formation—roared with rage and raised his hand.
This was the same green-robed elder who had interrupted Red Shao and Yu Xian’s earlier conversation.
Now, with fury surging, he struck even harder than he had during battle.
Enemies may be hated—but traitors must die.
Gu Hanfeng’s expression changed drastically.
“Fellow Daoists! Save me!! Help!!”
But the surrounding rogue cultivators merely smiled coldly, making no move to help.
They were more than happy to watch this play out.
The other cultivators of Medicine King Valley stared with eyes burning with hatred.
Forget helping him—not killing him outright was already a mercy.
“AHH!”
BOOM!
The elder’s palm strike exploded with thunderous force—
The power of a peak Core cultivator was overwhelming.
Gu Hanfeng, only at early Core Formation, could not resist.
His face twisted in terror, his eyes turned bloodshot—
Then, his entire body exploded!
It wasn’t a normal explosion.
It resembled a Core Formation self-detonation—spraying blood and viscera in every direction.
Both sides instinctively raised their hands to block.
But—
From the exploding remains, a black shadow shot out, shrieking sharply as it flew toward a nearby mountain peak!
“You damned things! Sooner or later, I—Zhenwei King—will devour each and every one of you!!”
The voice was shrill, metallic, and grating—like metal grinding on metal.
“What the hell is that?!”
“That—That’s—!”
“A… Sky Demon?!”
“Gu Hanfeng… was a Sky Demon?!”
Both sides—enemy and ally—were stunned.
The rogue cultivators didn’t understand what was happening.
But the surviving Medicine King Valley elders understood immediately.
Gu Hanfeng had been sent to Demonic Valley as a Qi Condensation disciple years ago.
He had returned with a powerful spiritual herb, advanced to Foundation Establishment, and then—
In just over ten years, he had surged from Foundation to early Core Formation!
Everyone had thought he was a hardworking genius who broke through his spiritual root limitations.
No one imagined—
He had been possessed by a Sky Demon!
But… weren’t Sky Demons bloodthirsty monsters who slaughtered anything they saw?
Creatures of instinct and madness?
How could one perform a possession!?
And that name… Zhenwei King?
What was that!?
As everyone struggled to process what they’d just witnessed, “Gu Hanfeng” shot straight into the mountain’s heart.
“No! He’s heading for Demonic Valley!”
Red Shao suddenly shouted.
She quickly began forming hand seals to activate the mountain’s formation.
But—
Sky Demons are spiritual entities. They are formless, shapeless.
Plus, the shock from the self-detonation and everyone’s moment of hesitation gave him the time he needed.
He had already reached the mountain depths.
It was too late. No formation could stop him now.
Silence returned to the battlefield.
Everyone was still stunned.
Sky Demon…
Those with deep knowledge or ancient heritage might have heard of such things.
But most Core cultivators had no idea what a Sky Demon was.
They understood demonic cultivators.
But a Sky Demon? What even was that?
Still, they quickly moved on.
“Possession,” they thought.
Cultivators all knew what that was.
At Core Formation and above, the soul is strong enough to attempt such a feat.
But it comes at a price—severe soul damage.
And it doesn’t prolong life.
Once your life span ends, the heavens decree your death—no technique can save you.
Most only attempt possession when they are already dying, as a last resort.
And even then, the chance of success is 50/50 at best.
If it fails, your soul gets destroyed, and your target inherits your memories.
“Whatever that Sky Demon was—doesn’t matter! You, kneel!!”
“Surrender or die!!”
“Kill!!”
“If I’m going down—I’m taking you with me!!”
“Let’s see who’s afraid!”
“KILL!”
The moment of shock passed—
And the battle resumed, more vicious than before.
A life-and-death struggle to the bitter end.
Meanwhile, the “Gu Hanfeng” that had fled into the mountain—
Entered the teleportation array.
And vanished.
He had no other choice.
As a pure spiritual entity, he was powerless against Core cultivators in direct combat.
If he stayed, he would die.
Back in the Demonic Valley.
“Gu Hanfeng”—or rather, the Sky Demon Zhenwei King—erupted from the teleportation array with a piercing shriek.
“DAMN IT! DAMN IT ALL!!”
His voice twisted with hatred.
“Just one more year! If only I’d devoured another thousand Human-Demon Pills… I’d have restored my true Sky Demon form! Then even a Nascent Soul couldn’t stop me! CURSE IT ALL!!”
He screeched and spun through the air madly, flying furiously.
Even though it was daytime in Demonic Valley, he showed no fear of the light.
While shrieking, he devoured several Foundation-level demonic beasts in a frenzy.
Before he knew it, he had reached the central mountain peak.
“Dragon God King! Wood Moon King! Kui Poison King! Rainblood King! I—Zhenwei King—have returned!!”
“Sure, I failed and wasted your efforts, but you can’t blame me!”
He howled and gazed toward the mountaintop.
But then—
His spiritual form suddenly froze.
If he had a face, it would’ve twisted in pure shock.
“W-Where… Where’s the Demon-Sealing Formation!?”
“The Demon-Sealing Formation… it’s gone?!”
He cried out in disbelief.
Then his cries turned into manic laughter:
“It’s gone!? Only the core remains!? HAHAHAHA! I returned at the perfect time! Just perfect! I was meant to come back!!”
He spun around wildly and screamed again:
“Ten thousand Sky Demons! Arise once more! Arise once more!”
“Dragon God King! Wood Moon King! Kui Poison King! Rainblood King! Get ready to bow before me—I’ve come to FREE YOU!!”
As the words left him, he transformed into a stream of black light—
And slammed straight into a massive black sphere the size of a house, shrouded in black mist and filled with eerie, piercing wails.
