Chapter 60: The Forgotten Phoenix Tree
Wen Yun’s eyes sparkled when the Token was thrown.
To save Ye Shubai’s face, she held back her curiosity and waited until the two disciples from Blizzard Island were sent adrift in the sea, and Shen Xinghai settled the refugees on shore. Then, she leaned in close to him, tugging at his sleeve.
"Will your Peak Lord Token work here?" she asked excitedly, her voice showing her eagerness. Ye Shubai easily guessed what she had in mind.
He smiled mysteriously and replied casually, "It will work."
Actually, it wasn’t the Token itself that was effective, but the person holding it. For someone at his level, taking over an island like Blizzard Island wasn’t difficult. The only challenge would be dealing with the authorities at Blizzard Island.
He was actually interested in a fight.
However, Wen Yun interpreted his answer differently. She picked up the Token, cleaned it carefully, and suggested, "Instead of leaving it here, how about we throw the Peak Lord Token to Blizzard Island?"
Ye Shubai chuckled and after a moment, he took out a stack of mysterious iron tokens from his space bag. "You don’t need to go through all that trouble. If you like, you can have all of these."
Wen Yun was amazed as she took the pile of iron tokens, noticing they were identical to the one from earlier. "How did you get so many of these?"
The Qingliu Sword Sect was a prestigious sect, and the Peak Lord Token was made of rare and precious mysterious iron marrow, each piece no bigger than a palm. Ye Shubai had at least ten of them.
"I found a mysterious iron mine in the Dark Heaven Secret Realm," Ye Shubai explained simply.
Wen Yun suddenly understood that the mysterious iron mine must have been emptied, so it wasn’t surprising to see some signs carved in idle moments, after all, the people were generous.
When she passed by Blizzard Island next time, she decided to throw a stone with a message to test it out.
But before Wen Yun could act on this thought, people arrived at Blizzard Island shortly.
Leading the group was the disciple who had previously been in a sorry state, now restored to his confident self, although his face was still swollen from the injury caused by his own talisman bouncing back.
"Elder, I saw clearly that those people indeed came from the direction of the sea, undoubtedly demon cultivators! And now they are pretending to be from the Qingliu Sword Sect to invade our island, it’s truly unreasonable!"
Surrounded in the middle was a young man in a red robe, with delicate features making it hard to distinguish gender. After hearing these words, his face turned extremely unpleasant. He had been aware of the news of the Yu family infiltrating demon cultivators, but never expected that now even the Qingliu Sword Sect had been implicated.
In the past, Qian Lishen didn’t bother with these trivial matters, spending most of his time studying formations. But now with demon cultivators running rampant across the four continents, he had to start taking care of sect affairs.
Upon hearing about a large ship entering from the sea, he immediately led many elite disciples of Blizzard Island to confront the enemy.
As expected, as they approached the island, Qian Lishen saw the huge ship moored by the shore, identical to the one depicted in the ancient scrolls, the legendary Demon Ship.
Qian Lishen’s expression turned serious as he quickly ordered, "Get into formation!"
The disciple in charge of leading the way, holding his swollen face, pointed at the two people on the shore and shouted loudly, "Young Master, those two are the leaders brought by the demon cultivators!"
Before the words had even fallen, Qian Lishen on the other side was already tired of listening to his complaints. He was eager to rush over, but as he got closer, he slowed down and adjusted his red robe before casually approaching with a dignified air.
"Oh, what a coincidence. It’s you two! I thought it was the demon cultivators causing trouble," Qian Lishen said sarcastically.
Qian Lishen’s eyes never left Wen Yun as he spoke sharply, "You come back from the outer sea and don’t even dare to visit my Blizzard Island. Are you afraid you can’t pass my new island entrance formation?"
The disciple behind them was already stunned and cautiously asked, "Young Master, are they really not demon cultivators?"
"Demon cultivators? Don’t go spreading rumors outside that these two are from my Blizzard Island. They are humble sword cultivators from the Qingliu Sword Sect," Qian Lishen said, clearing his throat and then turning to Wen Yun and Ye Shubai, "Let’s go. With me here, there’s no need for you to break through the formation."
The disciple behind them hurriedly reminded, "Young Master, even if they’re not demon cultivators, they have taken over our island!"
Wen Yun raised an eyebrow slightly and said firmly, "We of The Tenth Peak claim this place."
"Well, is it just a small matter?" Qian Lishen waved his hand nonchalantly. "Just a broken island, here you go."
After speaking, as if casually asking, "Aren’t you going to save that, um… the poor sword cultivator who speaks strangely? How come, did you bring them back?"
Wen Yun briefly told Qian Lishen about bringing back Shen Xinghai, and mentioned the fact that the villagers’ homeland was occupied. When she spoke, she deliberately paid attention to Qian Lishen’s expression. She saw the young man’s face turn red and then pale, looking embarrassed and seemingly unaware of these things.
"Sir… I will take responsibility for bringing back those mortals, and the destroyed town will be rebuilt. These villagers will stay here, protected by me; no one will dare to harm them."
Although he was usually arrogant and looked down on mortals, he also looked down on more than just mortals. After all, in the cultivation world, only a few people could catch the eye of this young ancestor. But proud people especially value promises, and with Qian Lishen’s promise, Wen Yun also felt relieved for the villagers.
Seeing that Wen Yun did not misunderstand him about the island, Qian Lishen’s suspended heart eased slightly. He forced himself to feign indifference with a hint of joy. "Since the old ancestor is not on the island now, you can go and sit for a while. Let’s also discuss the matter of Young Master Qing Hong. There are many hidden books on the island; we can go and find a way together."
When they returned, Qianzhenzi and others learned about Wen Yun’s rescue mission in the Demon Realm. The news of the two men preparing to cross the sea to rescue people brought some relief to them, even making them optimistic. They were unaware of Wen Yun’s magic abilities, thinking Ye Shubai might die in the sea, or even if he didn’t, he might be trapped in the Demon Realm and never return, which suited their intentions.
After all, they only dared to slowly erase Ye Shubai’s existence, but not openly declare war against him.
So Qianzhenzi and others temporarily put aside the matter of Ye Shubai, focusing on discussing how to deal with the demon cultivator taking over bodies in the Yu family, without returning home.
Now, Qian Lishen is in charge of all affairs on Blizzard Island. He doesn’t know about the conflict between Qianzhenzi and Ye Shubai. He feels that their ancestors were wrong in ignoring Wen Yun’s safety when trying to catch a thief. That’s why he decided to keep the news of Qianzhenzi and Ye Shubai’s return from the sea a secret.
They accidentally became good teammates.
Wen Yun remembered that a part of Yu Qinghong’s spirit was still with Ye Shubai. Mo You took over Yu Qinghong’s body before, and when Mo You’s body was destroyed, his spirit escaped and attached to a black snake. Yu Qinghong’s remaining spirit was protected by Ye Shubai using a life and death rule.
Ye Shubai nodded slightly and calmly said, "It’s time to find a new body for him soon."
Shen Xinghai led the survivors to rebuild their homes on The Tenth Peak island. Wen Yun’s three senior martial brothers, who were highly skilled, were good at cutting down trees. They were now helping with building houses, digging and working enthusiastically.
After surveying the area, Wen Yun saw everyone looking happy, which made her feel relieved.
"I see that our martial brothers enjoy farming, especially Elder Martial Brother and Third Martial Brother. They are very skilled at cutting down trees," Wen Yun reported seriously to Ye Shubai. "I think we should return to our sect to reclaim what was stolen from you. They don’t need to come with us. It’s better for them to stay here and develop our sea peak branch."
It was hard to tell if Ye Shubai agreed or disagreed from his expression. Wen Yun was used to his emotionally reserved nature and continued planning for the future with enthusiasm.
"Once we return to the main peak and with the reputation I have now, many disciples will want to join our sect. The path to reviving The Tenth Peak looks promising!"
When Ye Shubai heard this, he casually said, "The Tenth Peak has always been just a few of us, never thriving, let alone revival."
She quickly replied, "That’s prestigious, I heard that the Yu family in the West Continent has a towering observatory in the clouds. I plan to throw a Peak Lord Token up there whenever I have the chance, take control of it, and then have my Second Master Brother manage a peak for the Yu family!"
A faint hint of helplessness flashed across Ye Shubai’s face, like a beam of light suddenly shining on icy snow, but it disappeared quickly. Wen Yun, who was earnestly planning with her head down, didn’t notice.
It was Qian Lishen flying ahead who couldn’t help but say, "Hey, do you really think you can claim land by throwing a token? The Yu family may not give you face like a young master."
Wen Yun ignored him, gazing at the nearby Blizzard Island, where the warmth of spring persisted, with hidden exquisite buildings among cherry blossom trees, making the island look elegant and beautiful.
She eagerly pulled on Ye Shubai’s sleeve and whispered, "This place looks great, let’s claim it by throwing a token, shall we?"
Qian Lishen, furious, turned around and cursed loudly, "Hey! Do you think I can’t hear you just because you’re whispering?"
He felt he had treated this woman differently from others and had lost face to be friendly with her, but now he knew, she had no conscience at all!
*
In Qian Lishen’s grumbling, Wen Yun and Ye Shubai set foot on Blizzard Island again, this time staying at the courtyard that used to belong to the Qingliu Sword Sect.
Wen Yun’s luggage hadn’t been taken away yet, there wasn’t much in it, just a few changes of clothes, but Martial Sister Mengran was thoughtful and packed everything for her.
She easily opened her old room, thanks to the cleaning spell, there wasn’t even a speck of dust, still neat and tidy.
Rolling onto the familiar bed, Wen Yun patted the bed, gesturing for Ye Shubai to sit beside her.
He didn’t come over, just sat straight on the soft cushion by the window, and then said seriously, "I know where to place Yu Qinghong’s soul."
Wen Yun was surprised, "So soon?"
Ye Shubai quietly pointed to a potted plant on the windowsill without saying a word.
Wen Yun got up, her expression stiffening as she saw the small sapling, "I actually forgot to ask Martial Sister Mengran to take this thing back!"
Not only did she forget to have it taken away, she completely forgot about the existence of this little Phoenix tree!
After all, the spirits inside have all been taken away… What use is this piece of wood now?
