Chapter 18: Wedding and Jealousness
"Ah… so tired."
The prince regent slumped on the sofa, staring listlessly at the ceiling.
After fussing over the wedding for half a month, it finally came to an end. However, he still had to return to his office as the prince regent to deal with the piled-up official duties.
During this time, he and Elizabeth traveled between England and Prussia, listening to the priest in the grand cathedral, welcoming thousands of guests at the wedding. Nobles from England and Prussia came in large numbers, dignitaries from various European countries sent their congratulations, and the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg even showed up at the wedding.
It wouldn’t be right to say she caused a scene, the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg came over to give a backhanded congratulations, then spent the whole time glaring deathly at Leader One from a corner.
The wedding had two ceremonies, one in front of the grand cathedral in England and the other at Sanssouci Palace in Prussia. Leader One and Elizabeth got married on the top while the political leaders below held an international summit. With the Prince Regent of Prussia’s grand wedding gathering them all, it was a great opportunity for the political leaders to network and discuss business.
The Prussian Foreign Minister, Mrs. Bismarck, sealed 12 international cooperation agreements on the wedding day at Sanssouci Palace. They were so engrossed in the discussions that they completely missed the wedding.
Following the wedding, the prince regent and queen went on a procession through the streets of London and Berlin, receiving countless blessings from the people.
The royal palace initially planned for the newlyweds to take a gentle ride in an open carriage during the royal procession, waving and smiling at the people as they circled the main streets.
However, the Regent Highness was strongly against the open carriage and disliked the idea of riding in one.
In the end, it was decided that Leader One and Elizabeth would ride on horseback for the procession. The prince regent wore a pristine white Prussian cavalry uniform, while Queen Elizabeth opted for a tailored white lady’s cavalry uniform.
Due to disagreements over the attire for the procession, England and Prussia had a heated debate for several days. Initially, England hoped for Elizabeth to wear the traditional English royal military uniform, known as the Lobster dress. However, Elizabeth ended up wearing the Prussian white uniform, as insisted by Prussia.
Queen Elizabeth was also a skilled Magic Energy Knight, showcasing exceptional qualities and riding abilities. During the processions in Berlin and London, Elizabeth demonstrated advanced riding skills, including the elegant side-saddle riding style.
The prince regent had requested a moderate approach to the wedding ceremonies, avoiding extravagance and excessive complexity. Despite this, all the formalities over the past two weeks left Leader One feeling uncomfortable and irritated by the superficial ceremonies.
Despite their best efforts, as the alliance between England and Prussia was of great significance, it was essential to maintain a certain level of formality. A simple wedding might have invited criticism from the public, questioning the prince regent’s thriftiness and compromising Prussia’s reputation.
After the wedding ceremony concluded, the prince regent returned to Berlin for his official duties, while Princess Elizabeth stayed in London to attend to family matters, prepare for the relocation, and undergo the formalities of converting to the Prussian Protestant religion. Although the Church of England and the Prussian Protestant Church were both branches of the Protestant faith, there were differences that had to be addressed after marriage.
Leader One appeared exhausted at this point, eager to finish his piled-up official duties and take a well-deserved break.
The wedding received many gifts from all over the country and Europe, including valuable gifts from nobles and officials that require gifts in return, and gifts from common people that require thank you notes. The Royal Affairs Office is working overtime to handle the wedding gifts.
"Have you sorted out the place for Elizabeth to live after she gets married? What? Prime Minister Palace?"
The prince regent was shocked when he heard this, but after a moment of silence, he suddenly became very excited. It’s not a bad idea for Elizabeth to stay at Anna’s house, after all, Anna’s Prime Minister Palace is spacious, with four palaces…hehehe (LSP smile).
Stop giggling and look at this mountain of documents on the table. When will we finish dealing with them?
In fact, the domestic affairs during the wedding have already been handled by Anna Schultz and others, and are now in execution. Your Highness the Regent will need to review them later to decide which ones to veto or retract.
Leader One sighed heavily, picked up a document, and began to read.
The grand wedding between England and Prussia has passed, but the palace is still in a state of intense overtime work. Leader One is faced with a mountain of documents, and the Royal Affairs Office…is already overflowing with documents.
Freeman urgently hired more secretaries and clerks to handle the letters. Even after finishing the room full of letters, there are still dozens of boxes outside, and letters are continuously arriving from all over the world.
After meeting with the prince regent, Baron Schultz went to the Royal Affairs Office and took a look around.
Freeman looked at Schultz as if he had found a lifeline, and said desperately, "Help!"
"Oh, poor child, I can’t help you with these matters, it’s your job as the director," Schultz suddenly remembered, "By the way, because of your outstanding performance in the wedding preparations, England is ready to confer a title on you."
Freeman was ecstatic, "So, will I become a knight in the future?"
Schultz replied, "No, Freeman, you have received a title from England, what does it have to do with Prussia?"
Freeman looked dejected.
Schultz checked his pocket watch, remembering he had a lunch appointment with the board of directors of the national bank, and they were going to the opera together in the afternoon, so he didn’t stay long.
The Cabinet Secretary maintained an elegant and dignified posture, smiling as he left, while the Director of the Royal Affairs Office remained busy with the pile of letters.
Poor Freeman had made up his mind, "In the future, I also want to become a pillar of the country like Baron Schultz, earning the highest salary of a civil servant, and enjoying eating, drinking, and having fun every day, it’s so wonderful."
The palace members were extremely busy with their work, what about the Prime Minister’s Palace?
Foreign Affairs Minister Anna and the Commander of the Royal Cavalry, Catherine, had a secret meeting in a dark room lit by candlelight, even though the sun was shining outside.
The candlelight cast shadows on the two women and the walls, as Anna sipped wine, creating a villainous atmosphere.
"I have already arranged for her," Anna said softly.
"Who?" Catherine asked.
"Of course, Freeman."
The Queen’s affairs were managed by the Royal Affairs Office. As the Queen of Prussia, Elizabeth couldn’t just relax and enjoy herself every day.
Anna had Freeman arrange a busy schedule for Elizabeth, including school inspections, visits to textile factories, attending kindergarten inaugurations, representing the Prince Regent on diplomatic visits to female monarchies in the German region, and hosting salons for Prussian noblewomen…
Anna thought that by assigning Freeman to handle Elizabeth’s busy schedule, she could help the Queen carry out her royal duties. Since Elizabeth had married into the royal family, it was only right for her to share the burden of responsibilities and show compassion for the people alongside the Prince Regent.
Leader One used to conduct inspections and appearances once or twice a week, leaving the rest to the Prime Minister. With the Queen in place now, most of these public appearances could be delegated to her. This way, Elizabeth, as a representative of the royal family, could earn a good reputation among the public, rather than having the Prime Minister take the credit.
Catherine took out red wine from the ice bucket and poured it for herself. She felt that Anna was too alert and overly sensitive.
"We don’t need to deal with that child, Elizabeth. She looks like a well-behaved child," Catherine said.
Anna said, "We need to make Elizabeth understand who is in charge here."
Catherine replied, "Your Highness the Regent is in charge."
"It’s impossible to reason with a crazy person like you."
Anna planned to show Elizabeth who is in power, so that she would behave and not disturb the prince regent’s office by constantly asking to see him or have him visit her.
The prince regent is busy with the affairs of the country. How can a queen like you bother him? What if it affects the country’s development?
Catherine asked, "Are you afraid that Elizabeth getting too close to the prince regent will affect your status?"
Anna laughed, "Haha, I never cared much about Elizabeth. She has no skills or qualifications to compare with me, Anna. She’s useless even with a thousand chances."
Catherine asked, "What are you doing now? Oh… you’re just jealous that Elizabeth became queen. I can feel the sourness in this room, as if the lemons have come to life."
Anna got angry and wanted to fight Catherine, but she realized she couldn’t win. Catherine is the top Magic Energy Knight in Prussia.
Wait, Elizabeth is also a Magic Energy Knight… it should be fine. Anna felt confident in controlling this naive queen.
