Chapter 40: The Defeat of the Scumbag
Leader One had been preoccupied with the gun matters in the past few days.
He delegated many state affairs directly to the Prime Minister, only briefly checking the situation afterward, completely immersed in the thoughts of firearms.
In the Redel-Catherine estate, an antique exhibition room was turned into a workshop, where Prussia’s Your Highness the Regent used simple tools to study bolt-action rifles.
The genius engineer Mauser was so absorbed in his own world that he created a lever-action rifle with a spiral magazine, and now he was designing a firing-pin rifle that manually ejects shells using a spring-loaded plate.
Leader One wasn’t sure if it was his influence or if he had instilled too many futuristic ideas in Mauser, or perhaps it was just Mauser’s own youthful love for innovation.
Leader One became frustrated and decided to figure out the rifle situation himself.
Making a complete gun was difficult, so Leader One focused on studying the classic bolt mechanism of Mauser 1898 to create a rotating locking system.
After many days of trying and wasting lots of metal materials, Leader One accidentally broke a bending machine due to the excessive magical energy he infused into it.
In the end, he managed to create a firing pin.
"Mother ****," Leader One angrily slammed the darn thing to the ground.
Mauser, with his unique gun ideas, and Leader One, following the right path despite his lack of gun knowledge, both failed to produce a bolt-action rifle.
Leader One used to be a regular fan of the military in his past life, knowing only a little about many things. He could recognize Mauser’s classic bolt action rifle by its appearance, but he had no idea about the internal mechanisms like the extractor.
Working alone in the workshop, all he could make was a door latch.
Sometimes, Catherine would bring tea and encourage him, saying, "Your craftsmanship is great! You’re really good with your hands. You can work harder and soon catch up with my 6-year-old cousin in the countryside."
What Catherine meant was, instead of messing around here, you should focus on state affairs.
The founding father of the United States liked making locks, while the Prussian Prince Regent Redel preferred making door latches. Together, they introduced a home security package.
"There’s nothing for me to handle. I plan and arrange government orders every year, but my subordinates keep delaying. The plans from last year aren’t even finished yet. It’s been so long, and Berlin still doesn’t have trash cans, oh dear."
"I might as well continue making door latches…or study bolt action mechanisms."
Honestly, Leader One’s ambition had dwindled a bit. He felt there was nothing exciting to do in the current situation in Prussia. It was better to focus on stable development, following the "governing by doing nothing" principle of the Cabinet Secretary, waiting for money, for loyal followers to grow, and for his own prime minister.
Seeing Leader One still immersed in metal scraps and door latches, Catherine forcefully banged the door a few times to make a loud noise.
"Your Highness, four financial officers at the Berlin Treasury Department have excelled. I think you should go inspect and praise them in person to boost morale. The PR department will create a full set of news reports."
"Let the Prime Minister go instead. It’s not always about promoting me. Idolizing individuals is not good. Allocate the promotional resources appropriately to the Prime Minister."
"You’re sure you won’t go to the Berlin Treasury Department? There seems to be someone there you care about."
……
After several years, they met again, both no longer looking like students on campus.
Prince Regent Redel, surrounded by officials big and small, confidently walked into the office. The Hohenzollern crest was worn on his collar, symbolizing that he had become the head of the household. The king’s uniform further highlighted his power.
Lower-level official Anna von Bismarck stood by the desk with a stack of reports, dressed more conventionally and no longer displaying an arrogant attitude. She now seemed like a hardworking young woman.
The unexpected reunion of the two was calm, with normal expressions and steady tones.
"I didn’t expect Anna to have such financial capabilities. Your performance is the best in the entire Berlin City Treasury Department."
"I didn’t expect Leader One to be Redel, and you are from the Hohenzollern family, and even became prince regent."
People around looked at each other, the director was anxious and confused. Anna, your attitude towards Your Highness the Regent is not very respectful, but it seems like Anna and Your Highness the Regent are very familiar.
"Are you still short of money now?"
"Yes, definitely in need."
"I have saved up a thousand pounds, and also passed the civil service exam."
"Then let me give you the next task, to raise one million pounds of usable funds for Prussia, and complete the first stage of the industrial system framework assumption."
Anna remained silent.
Her fist clenched tightly, then quickly loosened.
"Why me…"
"Because you are my answer."
Silence, a long silence. The crowd around Prince Regent dispersed at Catherine’s signal, leaving the office to the two reunited individuals.
Catherine was the last to leave the office, closing the door with a click.
Anna remained unresponsive. Over the years, she had truly changed a lot. She now knew how to keep calm, no longer provoking the uncontrollable power like a deity.
In the past, Anna would have definitely given Leader One a big slap.
"Smack!"
Ouch~ The force of this slap… Anna lightly hit him, mixed with some complaints and perhaps something else.
"Leader One, you scoundrel, trying to play games with me, huh."
"I am Prince Regent Redel. Please be mindful of your position as a junior staff."
The two people stood close together, facing each other, looking into each other’s clear eyes.
Anna is 22 years old this year, the most beautiful time in her life. Youth and maturity are her, with delicate features and a clear and cool temperament. Leader One was a bit fascinated by what he saw.
His body leaned forward slowly, wanting a kiss…
"Smack!"
And then he was gently slapped on the face.
"I didn’t allow you to kiss me."
"So how can I get your permission?"
"Let me ask you a question first, can a queen also be the prime minister?"
"Unfortunately, no, you can’t hold both positions at the same time. As you know, that’s something the world cannot accept."
"Then I’ll be the prime minister. You’ll never be able to find a queen in your whole life."
"It depends on your skills."
"Even if Cleopatra, Wu Zetian, or Catherine the Great were reborn in someone’s body, I could make her wish she was never born. No one in this world can defeat me."
"Let’s talk about how to kiss you."
"If I’m in a good mood, maybe I’ll show you some mercy."
"Choose one: Second Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Deputy Director of Royal Affairs, or Parliamentary Record Keeper."
"I’ll start at the Ministry of Finance and help you get a million pounds."
"What about the kiss?"
"No way! You jerk, go away!"
Today’s winner is…Prince Regent Redel lost.
