Chapter 90: What Is Minister Professor Yu?
Silence.
At the entrance of the canyon, the only sounds that remained were the whispering wind and the rushing beat of blood in their ears.
A cultivator at the ninth level of the Qi Refining Stage had been killed in a single strike—by someone two minor realms below him.
For most cultivators, surpassing a single major realm was nearly impossible, and crossing minor realms was rare enough. But to see Yi Qianmo, at the sixth level of the Qi Refining Stage, kill a ninth-level cultivator in a single blow? It was utterly unfathomable.
Shock rippled through the crowd, leaving everyone stunned, except for Guan Shanqing.
He alone knew the strength Yi Qianmo possessed. He had seen him slay the monkey king—a creature comparable to a third-grade spirit beast. Even though the monkey king wasn’t as powerful as rumored, it was enough to solidify Yi Qianmo’s fearsome reputation.
“With a single strike, he defeated a ninth-level Qi Refining Stage cultivator!”
“What kind of techniques is he practicing? Could he be from one of the four great sects?”
The crowd erupted in whispers, their eyes filled with awe. The remaining seven cultivators instinctively took a step back, their confidence shaken.
To them, only disciples of the four great sects could display such overwhelming power. Yet, even among those sects, they had never seen someone like Yi Qianmo.
In the distance, Xu Zhou and Li Feng trembled, their faces pale with fear.
If a ninth-level Qi Refining Stage cultivator could be felled so effortlessly, their fates seemed grim.
“Return everything you’ve stolen,” Yi Qianmo said, his voice cold as steel. Raising his sword, he pointed it at the eight cultivators. “Do this, and I’ll spare your lives.”
The command left the crowd stunned.
If the eight returned their stolen goods, it would mean forfeiting their chance to enter Tianyuan Academy. They hadn’t hunted or gathered points themselves, and without points, they’d have no ranking—no hope.
The remaining ninth-level Qi Refining Stage cultivator stepped forward, his voice trembling.
“Do you realize what kind of consequences your actions will bring?”
“Oh?” Yi Qianmo’s gaze darkened.
The cultivator hesitated but pressed on. “We were chosen by Minister Professor Yu. Killing Xiao Xiao means you’ve offended him. Even if you manage to enter Tianyuan Academy, your fate will be sealed!”
“Minister Professor Yu?” Yi Qianmo’s voice grew icy.
“So, you’re saying Minister Professor Yu ordered you to ambush and rob others?”
“What do you think gave us the boldness to act this way?” the man replied, his tone defensive. “You’ve already crossed the line by killing Xiao Xiao. But if you’re sensible, we can pretend this never happened.”
Yi Qianmo’s lips curled into a cold smile.
“So, you are Minister Professor Yu’s pawns.”
The pieces fell into place. Yi Qianmo recalled hearing about the rivalry between the royal family and the Mansion Master. The top ten students from Tianyuan Academy would determine future prestige and power.
By setting this ambush, Minister Professor Yu hoped to secure top students for the Mansion Master, weakening the royal family’s position.
Yi Qianmo chuckled softly. He wouldn’t let such schemes play out unchecked.
The cultivator pressed on, emboldened. “You know Minister Professor Yu’s influence. It’s wise to back down. Leave now, and we’ll let you and Guan Shanqing pass.”
The crowd murmured in agreement. To most of them, offending a Minister Professor was unthinkable.
But Yi Qianmo remained unmoved.
“Minister Professor Yu?” he said, his tone mocking. “Why should I show him any respect?”
Gasps rippled through the onlookers.
“Did he just insult a Minister Professor?”
“Is he insane?”
The leader of the cultivators glared at Yi Qianmo. “Do you realize the consequences of your words?”
Yi Qianmo raised his sword, his gaze piercing. “I don’t care about the consequences. But if you don’t return what you’ve taken, you won’t live long enough to complain about me to anyone.”
Fear crept into the seven remaining cultivators.
They weighed their options. If they joined forces, they might defeat Yi Qianmo. But considering he had killed a ninth-level cultivator with one strike, the odds were slim.
Even if they managed to kill him, most of them wouldn’t survive the battle.
Reluctantly, they made their decision. One by one, they emptied their storage bags, tossing the stolen goods onto the ground.
The leader spat bitterly, “Mark my words. Even if you make it into Tianyuan Academy, you won’t have a good ending. Let’s go!”
The eight turned and fled, leaving their stolen spoils behind.
Yi Qianmo sheathed his sword, his expression unreadable.
The crowd stared at him, hesitant to retrieve their belongings. His power intimidated them, and they feared he might change his mind.
Yi Qianmo glanced at them. “Take back what’s yours. If any of you steal again, you’ll end up like that man on the ground.”
The warning sent chills down their spines. They quickly stepped forward, collecting their belongings, murmuring words of thanks.
In the distance, Xu Zhou and Li Feng cowered, regret etched across their faces.
If they had left Yi Qianmo alone, none of this would’ve happened.
Yi Qianmo’s gaze landed on them. Xu Zhou immediately dropped to his knees, crawling forward.
“Master Yi, I was wrong! Please forgive me. I didn’t know your greatness!” he pleaded, bowing repeatedly.
Yi Qianmo ignored him and turned to Guan Shanqing. “Handle them.”
Guan Shanqing hesitated, glancing at the two trembling figures.
In the end, he sighed and kicked them. “Get lost!”
The two scrambled away, disappearing into the distance.
“Do you think they’ll seek revenge?” Yi Qianmo asked, his tone calm.
“I don’t know,” Guan Shanqing admitted. “But I can’t kill people so easily.”
Yi Qianmo’s expression darkened. “There are plenty of people who repay kindness with hatred.”
“And you?” Guan Shanqing asked. “What would you do?”
Yi Qianmo’s gaze turned cold. “If someone wants to kill me, I’ll make sure I kill them first.”
