Chapter 84: Dragon Turtle Egg
Yi Qianmo never anticipated encountering a Dragon Turtle in Yan Mountain Lake—a terrifying spirit beast!
Although only a second-grade spirit beast, the Dragon Turtle’s prowess far exceeded others of its grade. As a king among spirit beasts, it could rival third-grade creatures in strength. For Yi Qianmo, who possessed only a partially infused Repel Evil Sword, this was an overwhelming foe.
As the Dragon Turtle opened its massive jaws to devour them, Guan Shanqing seized Yi Qianmo and dove into the water, narrowly avoiding the beast’s attack. Riding the surge of waves, they managed to swim further away.
However, the Dragon Turtle seemed uninterested in the two of them. Instead, it turned and swallowed the pursuing Monkey King whole. Though the Monkey King was a second-grade spirit beast, it was utterly powerless against the Dragon Turtle and disappeared in an instant.
Realizing their temporary reprieve, Guan Shanqing pulled Yi Qianmo towards the shore. Yet, before they could escape, the Dragon Turtle shifted its attention back to them and charged.
The enormous waves it created made it almost impossible for even the skilled Guan Shanqing to stay afloat. Desperate, Guan Shanqing suddenly pushed Yi Qianmo away and swam directly toward the Dragon Turtle.
“Brother Su, I owe you my life. Consider this my repayment. Run while you can—I’ll distract it!” Guan Shanqing sent this message before darting toward the beast.
Yi Qianmo watched Guan Shanqing’s selfless act with mixed emotions. Gratitude and helplessness flooded him—he couldn’t even swim. Furthermore, his ancestor’s memories hadn’t included any aquatic skills. Alone and vulnerable, he began sinking deeper into the lake.
The deeper he sank, the darker and colder the water became. Time seemed to stretch endlessly, and soon, he lost sight of both Guan Shanqing and the Dragon Turtle.
As his breath dwindled and his thoughts blurred, a soft white light suddenly radiated from his chest.
Out of the light emerged Old Bai, its deep blue eyes gleaming as it formed a protective sphere around Yi Qianmo. The surrounding water pushed away, leaving a ten-foot-wide vacuum of air.
Gasping for breath, Yi Qianmo stared at Old Bai in astonishment. His earlier anger at the creature for devouring so many of his spirit stones evaporated.
“I didn’t know you could do that,” Yi Qianmo muttered with a faint smile.
Old Bai glared at him before unfurling its stubby limbs and diving deeper into the lake.
“What now?” Yi Qianmo called after it, but Old Bai ignored him, heading toward the depths with purpose.
Eventually, they arrived at a massive underwater cave that glimmered faintly with light from its walls. Without hesitation, Old Bai swam inside.
Yi Qianmo, wary but curious, followed. As they ventured deeper, the passage opened into a vast chamber with a magical, vacuum-like space at its center.
Inside this void sat five enormous purple eggs, each roughly the size of Old Bai’s fluffy body.
“Turtle eggs!” Yi Qianmo’s eyes sparkled with greed and excitement.
Ignoring the barrier, Old Bai entered the void, grabbed an egg, and swallowed it whole without hesitation.
“Glug!”
As Old Bai consumed the first egg, its eyes gleamed with delight. It immediately moved to the next, devouring it in a single gulp.
Recovering from his shock, Yi Qianmo quickly stored two eggs in his Sword Pill.
Old Bai, noticing only one egg left, puffed up indignantly. Its pristine white fur turned red with frustration.
“Chirp! Chirp!” Old Bai gestured angrily, pointing at the remaining egg, then at itself, as if accusing Yi Qianmo of stealing.
Yi Qianmo scoffed. “You already ate two! There’s still one left. You’re not losing out!”
“Chirp chirp chirp!” Old Bai’s gestures grew more animated, as if declaring, Even I wouldn’t be shameless enough to raid someone’s nest!
“You’re the thief here, not me!” Yi Qianmo snapped back.
Old Bai glared before disappearing into a flash of light, retreating into his chest.
“Running away, huh? Too ashamed to argue?” Yi Qianmo smirked smugly.
Suddenly, a chilling noise echoed from outside the cave.
His face paled. “You little thief! You stole the eggs and hid, leaving me to face the dragon turtle’s wrath. Unbelievable!”
The realization hit him just as the Dragon Turtle’s massive shadow appeared outside the cave. Its lantern-like eyes glared with murderous intent.
Blood flowed from a gaping wound on its belly, staining the water crimson. But even as Yi Qianmo watched, the wound began to heal at an alarming rate.
“Master, this is your chance!” Taoist Qingmu’s voice echoed from the Repel Evil Sword.
Yi Qianmo scowled. “Where were you when I was nearly dead earlier?”
“Forgive me, Master. I was helpless then,” the voice replied. “But now, you must strike! Drive the sword into its wound before it heals completely!”
Yi Qianmo hesitated. Swimming to the turtle at his current speed was a death sentence. He only had one opportunity.
As the Dragon Turtle approached the cave, its overwhelming pressure made Yi Qianmo’s body tremble.
When it finally opened its massive jaws to attack, Yi Qianmo leaped into action.
Summoning every ounce of spiritual power, he launched himself like an arrow, narrowly avoiding the beast’s jaws. With precision, he drove the Repel Evil Sword into its healing wound.
At first, the Dragon Turtle didn’t react, continuing its charge into the cave. But as the sword’s blood curse activated, the beast convulsed violently. Its roar echoed through the water, shaking the cave walls.
The Dragon Turtle thrashed in agony before retreating from the cave, speeding toward the lake’s surface.
Yi Qianmo clung desperately to the sword embedded in its flesh, the immense pressure threatening to shatter his bones.
