Chapter 83: Monkey King and Dragon Turtle
Another cultivator had been mocking Yi Qianmo with a sneer, but his expression froze as he suddenly realized his companion’s head had already fallen, blood spraying everywhere. The horrifying sight drained the color from his face.
He hadn’t even seen how Yi Qianmo drew his sword before his ally was dead.
When Yi Qianmo turned his icy gaze toward him, the cultivator stumbled back two steps in terror, collapsing to the ground. His face twisted with fear as panic consumed him.
“You… go back and tell Xu Zhou that I will find him myself,” Yi Qianmo said coldly.
The cultivator felt as if he’d been granted a second life. Without hesitation, he scrambled to his feet and fled the scene.
However, the moment the cultivator vanished from view, Yi Qianmo collapsed onto the ground, his chest heaving.
The final sword strike had drained the last remnants of his spiritual power. By forcing himself to use the Wind Word Sword Technique, he had sapped his vitality. If the remaining cultivator had chosen to stay and fight, it could very well have been Yi Qianmo lying lifeless on the ground.
He glanced at the storage bag he had retrieved and was surprised to find more than thirty low-grade spirit stones inside.
Quickly, Yi Qianmo grabbed three spirit stones, holding them tightly in his hands as he began absorbing their energy. The spirit Qi surged through him, soothing his depleted meridians like rain falling on parched earth.
Before he could fully replenish his strength, a sudden chirping sound echoed through the forest. Yi Qianmo froze, his expression hardening as he saw violent movement in the distance. It was as if some ferocious spirit beast were storming toward him.
Without hesitation, Yi Qianmo grabbed the unconscious Guan Shanqing and bolted in the opposite direction.
Chaos Among the Trees
Moments after Yi Qianmo disappeared into the woods, a group of Green-haired Monkeys emerged from the forest. Seven or eight of them leapt down to the ground, chattering angrily.
Leading the troop was a towering monkey with streaks of golden fur running through its coat. This was no ordinary spirit beast—it was a second-grade Monkey King.
When the Monkey King spotted the lifeless body of one of its own on the ground, it let out an earth-shattering roar. A wave of killing intent rippled through the air, shaking the surrounding trees.
Yi Qianmo, feeling the surge of pressure even from a distance, cursed under his breath. “Why did it have to be monkeys?”
Green-haired Monkeys were known for their fierce loyalty and unrelenting vengeance. Killing one was akin to provoking the entire troop—and now, with their leader enraged, the situation had spiraled out of control.
Yi Qianmo glanced over his shoulder. The Monkey King, over ten feet tall, was bounding through the trees with terrifying speed, closing the distance rapidly.
“Second-grade spirit beast!” Yi Qianmo’s heart sank. “If it catches us, we’ll be torn apart.”
The weight of the unconscious Guan Shanqing slowed him down. For a fleeting moment, he considered abandoning him.
But the thought was gone as quickly as it came. Even if he left Guan Shanqing behind, the Monkey King would still come after him.
A Desperate Gamble
As the spirit beast drew closer, Yi Qianmo’s eyes landed on a massive lake in the distance.
Under normal circumstances, he would have avoided such a place entirely. A body of water that large undoubtedly housed powerful spirit beasts. The lake itself could be a deadly trap.
But with no other options, he gritted his teeth and sprinted toward the water.
Reaching the lake’s edge, Yi Qianmo leapt in, dragging Guan Shanqing with him. The two splashed into the cold water, sinking beneath the surface.
Underwater Chase
Guan Shanqing sputtered and thrashed awake, swallowing a mouthful of water. He flailed wildly, nearly pulling Yi Qianmo down with him.
“Calm down!” Yi Qianmo hissed, his voice muffled by the water. “Hold your breath!”
Guan Shanqing’s eyes widened as he recognized Yi Qianmo. He coughed, choking on water, before finally regaining some composure.
“Brother Su, why are you here?” he whispered in disbelief.
“What else? I saved your life,” Yi Qianmo snapped.
“Then why are we in the water?” Guan Shanqing asked, confused.
“Because you managed to anger an entire troop of monkeys!” Yi Qianmo retorted. “And now their king is chasing us!”
Just as he spoke, the two surfaced briefly for air and caught sight of the Monkey King standing on the shore.
The enormous beast let out a furious screech, baring its fangs before diving into the lake after them.
“It’s over,” Yi Qianmo muttered grimly.
The Dragon Turtle Appears
Guan Shanqing, who was surprisingly adept at swimming, grabbed Yi Qianmo and dragged him deeper into the lake. Despite its strength, the Monkey King was a land-dweller and struggled to keep up in the water.
However, the Green-haired Monkeys on the shore continued to track them from above, ensuring they couldn’t escape by climbing out.
As Guan Shanqing swam toward the lake’s center, his body suddenly froze.
“Brother Su… what is that?” he stammered, pointing into the depths.
Yi Qianmo followed his gaze and felt his blood run cold.
From the depths of the lake, a massive shadow emerged, rippling through the water. The waves it created were so powerful that they pushed the two men back.
The shadow grew larger and larger until it became clear—a giant dragon turtle was swimming toward them.
The creature was dozens of feet long, with a shell that resembled a mountain. Its black, scaly head jutted out, and its crimson eyes glowed like lanterns in the murky water.
“A… Dragon Turtle!” Yi Qianmo whispered, his voice trembling with fear.
