Chapter 66: Threat
Yi Qianmo was stunned. Beside him, Su Muyu stood equally shocked, her composure shaken.
The Tang family of Qin Land—renowned and formidable—was one of the most powerful families in Qin Land, a country leagues stronger than the Yan Kingdom.
If she hadn’t heard it with her own ears, Su Muyu would never have imagined that the nearly annihilated Yi family of Green Cloud City had any connection with such a prominent lineage.
Her mind raced, recalling Yi Qianmo’s earlier mention of “generations of legacy.” The old man’s reference to the “Nine Branches of the Yi Family” suddenly brought clarity. Everything fell into place—Yi Qianmo’s exceptional alchemical talent, his unparalleled swordsmanship, and his innate brilliance.
It all made sense now. The Yi family, sharing a lineage with the Tang family, carried an extraordinary heritage.
A Private Conversation
After a long silence, Su Muyu signaled to her guards to stand down. Recognizing the familial ties, she saw no need to stay further.
As Su Muyu left with her people, Yi Danian spoke.
“Old Tang, may I have a few words with my grandson alone?”
The old man nodded, gesturing for his group to leave the hall. Yi Danian dismissed everyone else, leaving only himself, Yi Qianmo, and Yi Lingyu.
Yi Qianmo turned to his grandfather, his grip tightening on Lingyu’s trembling hand. “Is all of this true?”
Yi Danian sighed, sinking back into his seat. “Yes. I wanted to tell you earlier, but back then, it was a tumultuous time for our family. I wanted you to take Lingyu and leave for Qin Land, but…”
Yi Qianmo remembered that suggestion. His grandfather had mentioned it briefly before, but he’d been too preoccupied fighting off the three major families to consider it seriously.
“But wasn’t Mother pregnant at the time?” Yi Qianmo asked, his voice strained. “If this is true, then… what about Mother?”
He looked at Yi Lingyu, his words faltering.
Yi Danian’s expression darkened. “After Tianyao passed, your mother gave birth to a son. But… he didn’t survive. This has no connection to Lingyu’s arrival.”
“When did this happen?” Yi Qianmo asked, his voice low.
Yi Lingyu’s hand trembled slightly in his grasp. She kept her head down, avoiding his gaze.
“Shortly after you entered the Yu family,” Yi Danian replied. “Your mother was already unwell, and after Tianyao’s death…”
He sighed heavily. “The Tang family sent us Lingyu. She became your sister, and we raised her as one of our own.”
The Nine Branches
Yi Qianmo’s expression hardened. “If the Tang family is so powerful, why didn’t they intervene to save the Yi family?”
Yi Danian’s tone grew solemn. “This ties back to the Nine Branches of the Yi Family.
“Legend has it that the Yi family once belonged to an ancient dynasty of immortals. For reasons unknown, we faced a great enemy, and the family was nearly wiped out. Only nine descendants survived—thus the Nine Branches of the Yi Family.
“Our branch kept the original surname, but we’ve declined significantly. The Tang family, meanwhile, changed their name and established the Tang Gate in Qin Land. Thirteen years ago, when they faced their great enemy, they likely didn’t have the resources to help us.”
Yi Qianmo thought of their ancestors—their immense power and influence. If the ancient Yi family truly produced such exceptional descendants, it was no surprise the family’s legacy remained formidable.
Still, the memory of their destruction lingered in his mind. The great enemies who nearly annihilated their family thirteen years ago might still pose a threat.
Sibling Bonds
Yi Danian placed a firm hand on Yi Qianmo’s shoulder. “But no matter what, Lingyu is still your sister.”
“I know!” Yi Qianmo said, turning to Lingyu. His voice softened. “Lingyu, do you still see me as your brother?”
Lingyu looked up, her red, tear-filled eyes meeting his. She nodded vigorously. “Yes! I thought my brother didn’t want me anymore.”
“You silly girl.” Yi Qianmo wiped her tears, smiling faintly. “How could I ever not want you?”
“But I’m not your real sister,” Lingyu said, her voice breaking.
“No,” Yi Qianmo said firmly, gripping her hand. “You are my real sister. Even closer than blood.”
Lingyu’s eyes filled with hope. “Then… Brother, can I stay?”
An Explosive Confrontation
The door burst open, and Tang Yuan stormed in, his face twisted in anger. Seeing Lingyu crying in Yi Qianmo’s arms, his displeasure deepened.
Yi Qianmo ignored him and turned to Lingyu. “If Lingyu doesn’t want to leave, no one will take her away!”
Tang Yuan, already seething, could hold back no longer. “You little brat! Who do you think you are to stop us?”
Before Tang Yuan could say more, Yi Qianmo moved in a blur.
Slap!
Tang Yuan flew across the hall, landing hard on the ground.
“You dare call me a little brat?” Yi Qianmo’s voice was icy. “Do you know who you’re talking to?”
Tang Yuan struggled to rise, but before he could, Yi Qianmo stepped on his abdomen, pinning him down. A sword pressed against his neck.
The Tang family guards, all at the Foundation Establishment Stage, rushed in, surrounding Yi Qianmo. Their auras alone caused the Yi family members to tremble in fear.
“Put away your show of strength!” Yi Qianmo shouted. His blade drew blood, leaving a shallow cut on Tang Yuan’s neck. “Take one step closer, and I’ll kill this dog!”
The guards hesitated. Yi Qianmo’s decisive and ferocious response had caught them off guard.
“Kill this brat for me!” Tang Yuan screamed, his face red with humiliation.
The guards faltered, unsure. Suddenly, an oppressive pressure filled the hall. Yi Qianmo’s spiritual power was instantly suppressed, his body floating into the air.
All eyes turned to the old man. His calm demeanor was gone, replaced by a cold, furious gaze.
“You dare harm one of mine?” the old man growled.
Tang Yuan smirked, drawing his sword to finish Yi Qianmo.
“Stop!”
Lingyu’s voice cut through the tension. A dagger appeared in her hand, its blade pressed against her neck.
“Miss!” The old man’s voice wavered, his expression shifting to alarm.
“You can trap my brother momentarily, but can you trap him forever?” Lingyu demanded. Her resolve was clear. “Release him, or I’ll end my life right here!”
