Chapter 63: Unstoppable
Yu Xiu and Zhou Lanting worked together to lure the Fire Demon out before swiftly retreating down the mountain.
But Zhou Lanting underestimated the Fire Demon’s strength. If not for the sudden ground tremors and the closing cracks, he would have surely been devoured.
As the Fire Demon retreated, Zhou Lanting let out a bitter smile. “Whether Yi Qianmo can make it out this time depends entirely on his luck.”
Yu Xiu, watching the Fire Demon disappear into the distance, appeared uneasy. Zhou Lanting noticed and chuckled. “What’s the matter? Feeling sorry for your Five Element Refuge Bead?”
“What are you talking about? I’m just concerned about your safety, senior,” Yu Xiu replied calmly.
“Safety?” Zhou Lanting sneered. “Do you honestly believe he stands a chance of surviving this?”
Zhou Lanting’s tone grew colder. “If you’re worried about the bead, just admit it. I’ve had enough of hypocrites pretending to care. None of you ever speak the truth.”
Yu Xiu refrained from arguing, instead chanting a Buddhist phrase. “Despite everything, there’s still humanity in you. Return with me to the Tianlong Temple, and I—”
“Get lost!” Zhou Lanting snapped, cutting him off.
Before Yu Xiu could respond, Zhou Lanting noticed movement in the distance and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Watching Zhou Lanting vanish, Yu Xiu called out, “If you ever need help, I, Yu Xiu, will do my best to assist you!”
From afar, Zhou Lanting raised a middle finger, dismissing the monk’s words entirely.
Not long after, the people camping at the foot of the mountain rushed up.
When they saw Yu Xiu, shock spread across the faces of the leaders, particularly those who had ventured into the mountain earlier. Their expressions darkened.
“Where is Yi Qianmo? Is he still alive?” Su Muyu’s anxious voice cut through the tense atmosphere.
Yu Xiu sighed deeply, his face heavy with grief. “I’m afraid the elder won’t be coming back.”
Su Muyu froze, her heart sinking. For Yi Qianmo, she had gone as far as to offend the Xuanyuan Sect. Now, if he truly had perished in Green Dragon Mountain, how could she possibly explain it to her brother?
“He lost his footing and fell. That was fate, wasn’t it, little monk?” Liu Qingfeng’s mocking voice broke the silence as he stepped forward.
The sight of Yu Xiu alive had initially startled him, but after hearing that Yi Qianmo was gone, he visibly relaxed.
“What do you mean by that? I’ve never met someone as shameless as you!” Yu Xiu shot back, his voice sharp.
“You little bald donkey, who are you calling shameless?” Liu Qingfeng roared, his temper flaring.
“And you troublemaker, who are you calling a bald donkey?” The disciples of the Tianlong Sect immediately surrounded Liu Qingfeng, tension thickening in the air.
Sensing the impending clash, a cultivator named Hu Jianren from the Xuanyuan Sect stepped forward to mediate. “Someone is already dead. What’s the point of fighting over this now?”
Su Muyu turned to Yu Xiu. “What exactly happened?”
Without hesitation, Yu Xiu recounted everything, pointing at Hu Jianren. “It was this man who harmed our elder. Without him, the elder wouldn’t have fallen into the lava.”
“You, Liu Qingfeng! You, Hu Jianren!” Su Muyu’s voice trembled with fury as she glared at both men. Her eyes then turned to Elder Wu. “We had an agreement before. What do you intend to do about this?”
Elder Wu sneered, his voice dismissive. “Agreements? Your Highness, he’s already dead. Why not let it go? Continuing this conflict will only harm you and your reputation. Do you truly wish to oppose the Xuanyuan Sect over a mere unaffiliated cultivator?”
Su Muyu’s hands clenched into fists. “He’s not just anyone. He saved my life and risked everything for me. I refuse to let this go!”
Yet, even as she spoke, doubt flickered in her heart. Yi Qianmo was gone, and fighting for a dead man might cost her everything—her status, her position, even her family.
Liu Qingfeng grinned smugly. Elder Wu’s words emboldened him, and he turned his back on the confrontation.
Suddenly, a voice echoed from the mountain.
“Oh? Is that so? Did nothing happen?”
Everyone turned toward the source of the voice. A figure staggered down the mountain, his steps unsteady but determined.
It was Yi Qianmo.
“How is this possible?!” Hu Jianren and Liu Qingfeng gasped, their faces pale as though they had seen a ghost.
Even Yu Xiu’s eyes widened in disbelief. By all accounts, Yi Qianmo shouldn’t have survived the Fire Demon’s lair.
Su Muyu stood frozen for a moment before rushing to Yi Qianmo and embracing him tightly, tears streaming down her face.
Yi Qianmo smiled faintly. “Why are you crying? Didn’t I make it out?”
Realizing her lapse in composure, Su Muyu quickly stepped back, her expression returning to one of authority.
She turned to Elder Wu. “According to our agreement, shouldn’t the Xuanyuan Sect discipline this man named Hu?”
Before Elder Wu could reply, Hu Jianren stepped forward, his voice icy. “Who do you think you are to make demands of us?”
“He’s my husband,” Su Muyu declared coldly. “The prince of Yan Kingdom. If the Xuanyuan Sect doesn’t handle this matter, Tianyuan Academy will ensure justice is served!”
Elder Wu’s face darkened, but before he could respond, Yi Qianmo spoke.
“I’ll accept an apology,” Yi Qianmo said. “But he must kneel and bow three times before me.”
Hu Jianren’s face twisted with rage. “You dare demand that I kneel? A disciple of the Xuanyuan Sect? Dream on!”
Elder Wu barked, “Hu Jianren, kneel!”
Under the weight of Elder Wu’s authority, Hu Jianren reluctantly knelt before Yi Qianmo, his fists clenched.
“Bow your head,” Yi Qianmo ordered.
Hu Jianren glared at him, his face filled with defiance, but Elder Wu’s glare left him no choice. Gritting his teeth, Hu Jianren lowered his head.
In that instant, Yi Qianmo drew Repel Evil.
With a single, decisive swing, Hu Jianren’s head fell to the ground.
