Chapter 45: I Do It for a Man
Half an hour later, Liu Qingfeng returned to the camp.
“Your Highness, the people from the Xuanyuan Sect will arrive shortly,” he said.
Su Muyu nodded, and the camp fell silent. Though the cultivators did not understand the reason for summoning the Xuanyuan Sect, a sense of unease crept through the air.
After another half hour, a woman’s voice echoed from outside the camp.
“Sister Su, if you summoned me in such haste for something trivial, I might get angry.”
Yi Qianmo, seated cross-legged on the ground, opened his eyes the moment he heard the voice. He recognized it immediately—this voice had haunted him for thirteen years.
Su Muyu rose to her feet, but Yi Qianmo had already stepped outside. She hurried to follow.
Three individuals from the Xuanyuan Sect arrived, flanking Yu Youwei. Two were at the eighth level of the Qi Refining Stage and stood like sentinels at her side.
As soon as Yi Qianmo appeared, Yu Youwei froze in place, the playful smile vanishing from her lips.
“What does Your Highness mean by this?” Yu Youwei asked coldly as Su Muyu emerged from the camp behind Yi Qianmo.
“Nothing much,” Su Muyu replied lightly. “I merely wish for you to resolve a long-standing issue.”
Su Muyu raised her hand, and the cultivators of Tianyuan Academy formed a perimeter around Yu Youwei and her companions, tightening the atmosphere to a razor’s edge.
Yu Youwei’s laugh broke the tense silence.
“Ah, so the Grand Princess of Yan Kingdom has decided to mediate. What a surprise.”
Her gaze flicked away from Yi Qianmo, as if he were beneath her notice.
“That’s correct,” Su Muyu said with a calm nod. “The conflict between you two should be resolved here and now.”
Yu Youwei scoffed, her tone dripping with derision.
“When did the Grand Princess of Yan Kingdom start taking orders from others? Do you have feelings for him? If you do, you can have him—I won’t stop you. But must you disturb the peace for this farce?”
The word “ex-husband” fell like a stone into the gathering, its implications rippling through the group. Whispers passed among the cultivators as realization dawned: the man before them was none other than Yi Qianmo, the ex-husband of the famed Yu Youwei.
“You still remember what you said to me that day in the dungeon, don’t you?” Yi Qianmo asked, gripping the hilt of his sword. His voice trembled with suppressed emotion.
Yu Youwei’s disdainful gaze flicked back to him, cold and indifferent.
“Of course, I remember. I told you to accept your fate as a mortal. I didn’t expect you to defy me so boldly. But tell me, how did you convince the Grand Princess to help you? Let me guess…”
Her mockery sharpened.
“The Yi family has nothing worth mentioning—except, perhaps, the Great Yi Sword Technique? Did you betray your pride and offer that secret to her? How ironic. It seems even you can’t resist groveling for survival.”
Her words cut deep, leaving no room for Yi Qianmo to respond. Turning to Su Muyu, she pressed on.
“If the Great Yi Sword Technique is what you want, I can have the sect prepare a copy for you. There’s no need to waste your time protecting him. Let me take him away, and we can all move on.”
Su Muyu’s serene expression didn’t waver.
“You’re mistaken,” she said. “I don’t need your sword technique, nor will I let you take him away.”
Yu Youwei’s composure cracked, her voice tinged with incredulity.
“Are you seriously opposing the Xuanyuan Sect for this man? For Yi Qianmo?”
“That’s exactly what I’m doing,” Su Muyu declared without hesitation.
The shock among the cultivators was palpable. The Grand Princess of Yan Kingdom was openly defying the powerful Xuanyuan Sect—for her ex-husband, no less.
Yu Youwei’s scornful laugh rang out.
“You’re throwing away your academy’s future for a man? Have you gone mad? Or have you fallen in love with him?”
“Yes,” Su Muyu said firmly. “I am doing this for him.”
Her voice was resolute, unwavering.
The truth was clear to her: Yi Qianmo’s talent as a Pill Master was unmatched. Even before he became a true master, his mastery of reversal techniques far surpassed the capabilities of advanced Pill Masters. With his potential, he was destined to become a legend, perhaps even greater than the Xuanyuan Sect’s greatest alchemist.
“Crazy,” Yu Youwei muttered, shaking her head. “Fine. If you want him so badly, he’s yours. I have no interest in keeping him.”
She turned to leave, but Su Muyu raised a hand, blocking her path.
“You can’t leave,” Su Muyu said firmly.
Yu Youwei’s demeanor darkened, her spiritual power surging with chilling intensity.
“Are you truly choosing him over peace, Su Muyu?”
As her oppressive spiritual energy filled the air, Su Muyu’s body trembled under its weight.
But before she could falter, Yi Qianmo stepped forward, shielding her.
“I don’t need her protection,” he said, his voice cutting through the tension.
His spiritual power flared, matching Yu Youwei’s oppressive might.
“I said it before—anything you take from me, I’ll reclaim without a single loss!”
