Chapter 40: Demonic Cultivator
“The Yu family went to the Yi family yesterday, intending to destroy them, but unexpectedly… their entire army was wiped out!”
“The Yu family destroying the Yi family? How is that possible? Aren’t the Yu family and the Yi family related? Why would they want to destroy them?”
“Heh, you don’t know, do you? The three great families of Green Cloud City used to balance one another. None of them could completely dominate. But now that the Lei family and the Huang family are gone, only the Yi family remains. Naturally, the Yu family wanted to rule Green Cloud City alone. Who would have thought the Yi family would end up victorious instead?”
“The Yi family’s secrets run deep. It’s said Yi Qianmo has become an immortal. Rumor has it that he received the Tianyuan Decree and is about to go to Tianyuan Academy for training. When Yu Changqing led an assault on the Yi family, the Yu family was utterly annihilated!”
“Immortal?!”
In an inn in Green Cloud City, the crowd erupted into murmurs. When the topic of immortals arose, everyone gasped in awe.
The events at the Yi family had spread like wildfire across the city. No one could have predicted that the three families that had dominated Green Cloud City for over a century would all crumble within half a month.
Once, the Yi family was oppressed and forced to maintain a low profile. Now, they had risen overnight, standing unchallenged as the rulers of Green Cloud City. From this day forward, the city belonged to the Yi family.
While the crowd buzzed with speculation, a man in black wearing a wide-brimmed hat spoke up from a corner of the tavern.
“Which way is the Yi family estate?”
The people turned to look at him. Someone chuckled, “Are you planning to join the Yi family too? I wouldn’t bother if I were you. The Yi family is swimming in talent now. They have so many masters in the Innate Stage, you wouldn’t even qualify to serve tea.”
The man in black remained silent, his voice cutting through the chatter like ice.
“I asked: which way is the Yi family estate?”
The temperature in the tavern seemed to drop. The chuckler swallowed nervously and pointed in the right direction. Without another word, the man in black left. The tavern resumed its lively chatter as though trying to dispel the chill he left behind.
Inside the Yi family’s secret chamber, Yi Qianmo sat cross-legged, a faint glow surrounding him. He had just consumed the last of the Qi Nourishing Pills, attempting to break through from the first level of the Qi Refining Stage to the third level.
However, the demands of his Chaotic Sword Body far exceeded his expectations. The pills only propelled him to the second level, leaving him no choice but to seek stronger resources for further advancement.
“It seems that relying solely on Qi Nourishing Pills is insufficient for my cultivation,” Yi Qianmo thought. “But with my current level, defeating Yu Youwei will be a trivial matter. Green Dragon Mountain awaits.”
The Qi Nourishing Pill was considered basic for cultivators at his stage. To refine spiritual power and progress further, he required more potent pills. On his journey to Green Dragon Mountain, he planned to search for rare herbs, refine new pills, and, most importantly, find Yu Youwei.
As Yi Qianmo stepped out of the secret chamber, a sudden wave of unease washed over him.
Standing outside was a figure in black robes, a wide-brimmed hat shrouding their face. The figure exuded a chilling aura that made Yi Qianmo’s skin crawl.
“Who are you?” Yi Qianmo asked cautiously.
The figure’s hoarse voice rasped, “The one who will kill you.”
“Are you from the Xuanyuan Sect?” Yi Qianmo’s eyes narrowed.
“Xuanyuan Sect?” The figure seemed amused. “You’ve offended the Xuanyuan Sect? Bold. But no, they won’t need to dirty their hands. I’ll take care of you myself.”
As the words fell, a terrifying blood curse aura erupted from the figure, its oppressive energy making Yi Qianmo’s legs tremble.
“Foundation Establishment Stage!” Yi Qianmo gasped. “And the aura of a blood curse—you’re a demonic cultivator!”
“Smart little one.” The man in black stepped forward, each movement amplifying the spiritual pressure that bore down on Yi Qianmo. “Pity it won’t save you.”
In a flash, Yi Qianmo summoned his Sword Pill, unleashing a burst of spiritual energy. His sword streaked toward the man in black like a comet.
But the man in black raised two fingers, effortlessly catching the blade mid-strike. With a flick of his wrist, he sent a surge of energy down the sword, knocking Yi Qianmo off his feet.
Blood trickled from Yi Qianmo’s hands as he struggled to stand. Before he could recover, the man in black closed the distance, seizing him by the throat and lifting him into the air.
“How did you enter the cave?” the man demanded coldly.
Yi Qianmo’s face flushed as he gasped for air. “You… just advanced… to the Foundation Establishment Stage,” he managed to choke out.
The man in black froze momentarily, his grip tightening. “Whether I advanced or not is none of your concern. Worry about yourself!”
Through gritted teeth, Yi Qianmo rasped, “Do you… feel… the imbalance… in your spiritual power?”
The man in black faltered, his body trembling. Sensing the sudden shift, Yi Qianmo channeled the last of his strength into his left leg, delivering a powerful kick.
The impact forced the man in black to release his grip, sending Yi Qianmo tumbling to the ground.
Coughing violently, Yi Qianmo activated his remaining spiritual energy, trying to dispel the blood curse invading his body. But the man in black recovered quickly, gathering another surge of cursed energy in his fist.
“If you want to live,” the man growled, “you’ll obey.”
Yi Qianmo lifted his head, bloodshot eyes glaring defiantly. He made no move to dodge.
