Chapter 4: I Dare
In Green Cloud City, the gloomy sky suddenly started to rain.
“Waa… Second Grandfather… Third Grandfather… Lingyu does not want to marry!” In the Yi family hall, a girl knelt and cried out, her voice mingling with the sound of rain.
The girl wore a blue shirt, her figure graceful. On her slightly chubby face, two charming dimples appeared, giving her a sweet appearance. Her swollen eyes were lively, though now filled with tears as she looked pleadingly at those around her.
Two groups sat stiffly beside her: the Lei family, who had come to propose, and the high-ranking members of the Yi family.
“Marriage is a big matter; it cannot be decided by one so young,” an old man in the hall responded coldly. “Since the young master is so sincere in proposing, you should go along with him. Regardless of good or bad, the Lei family is one of the three great families of Green Cloud City and will not treat you poorly.”
This was exactly the Third Grandfather the girl had mentioned.
The girl looked around desperately, her gaze finally landing on the boy in the yellow shirt seated to her right. Her eyes filled with fear at the sight of Lei Yuhu, the young master of the Lei family. He was known throughout Green Cloud City as a troublemaker who had once forcefully taken a woman in the street. When her family came to confront him, Lei Yuhu not only refused to back down but killed them immediately. Countless innocent families in Green Cloud City had suffered because of him.
Looking at the girl before him, Lei Yuhu’s eyes filled with wicked thoughts. “Don’t worry, Lingyu. As long as you marry into the Lei family, I promise to take good care of you.”
The girl, Yi Lingyu, was Yi Qianmo’s little sister. She collapsed to the ground, her body shaking.
A middle-aged man walked up to Yi Lingyu and knelt beside her. “Uncle, Lingyu is only thirteen years old. If she is to marry, it should be after she is an adult.”
“Not only is Lingyu thirteen, but even if there is to be an engagement, we should wait for the clan leader to return before making any decisions,” another middle-aged man stepped forward, his tone firm.
“Slap!” The old man in the main seat struck the table. “According to you two brothers, do I not have the right to make decisions?”
The middle-aged man beside Yi Lingyu immediately lowered his head in silence, but the one with the firm tone stared angrily at the Second Elder. “The marriage between the Yi family and the Lei family is such an important matter that it naturally requires the clan leader to decide. Besides, the clan leader is Lingyu’s real grandfather!”
“Yi Tianyang, are you saying that I, this Second Grandfather, am not a proper grandfather?” The Second Elder, Yi Dajiang, said coldly. He was Yi Lingyu’s Second Grandfather and the current leader of the Yi family.
Yi Tianyang fell silent, gripping his fists tightly, anger in his eyes.
“That’s really amazing!” Lei Yuhu stood up with a smile. “However, you were mistaken. I am not here to get married; the Yi family and our Lei family are not forming a union. I am here to take a concubine. Yi Lingyu marrying into the Lei family is only to be a concubine. Do I really need your clan leader’s approval for that?”
“You—!” Yi Tianyang turned and glared at him. “Don’t think I don’t know, you guys are…”
Before he could finish, Lei Yuhu gave a glance, and a shadow appeared beside him, rushing toward Yi Tianyang and throwing a punch.
“Bang!”
Despite being a first-class martial artist, Yi Tianyang showed no sign of reaction and was knocked away.
“Puff!” Blood sprayed from his mouth, and Yi Tianyang’s face turned pale. He lifted his head, his body slightly shaking. “Acquired stage master!” he exclaimed fearfully.
Those words caused everyone from the Yi family to gasp—in their entire family, there was only one acquired stage master, their reclusive patriarch.
Lei Yuhu’s smile vanished. “I’m telling you, I am here today to take a concubine, not to ask for your opinion. Whether you agree or not, I am taking this person with me today. From now on, she will be my concubine, and I dare anyone from the Yi family to stop me!”
The hall fell silent. Yi Tianyang lay on the ground, fists clenched, his eyes full of hatred, while the rest of the Yi family lowered their heads. The middle-aged man beside Yi Lingyu opened his mouth but swallowed his words.
“I dare!”
A cold voice rang out, sending a chill through everyone in the hall. They looked up together toward the entrance, where a young boy walked through the rain, his hair disheveled and clothes soaked. His deep-set eyes were sharp like an eagle’s as he entered the hall like a devil from hell.
Everyone present was puzzled. Lei Yuhu fixed his gaze on the boy. “Who are you, that you dare to interfere in my Lei family’s matters?”
“Brother…” The boy remained silent as Yi Lingyu suddenly jumped up and threw herself into his arms, crying loudly.
The newcomer was Yi Qianmo. No one in the Yi family knew him, and even the Lei family did not recognize him. He had entered the Yu family at age five, but now looked completely different. Only Yi Lingyu recognized him, as she had been the only one allowed to visit the Yu family once a year for the past thirteen years.
For Yi Qianmo, those yearly visits had been his reason to keep going.
“Don’t cry. Big brother is back, so no one can bully you anymore.” Yi Qianmo hugged his sister tightly, remembering how her face had given him hope during those dark, hopeless thirteen years.
“You are… Yi Qianmo? You actually came back!” The Yi family members showed mixed expressions, with several elders displaying fear as they stared at him intensely, wishing they could kill him immediately. They knew what his return meant.
“Qianmo…” Yi Tianyang stared blankly, his eyes filled with guilt.
“I thought the Yi family had invited some expert, but it turns out he has been with the Yu family for thirteen years, serving as Yu Youwei’s consort!” Lei Yuhu’s sharp voice cut through the air. He looked at Yi Qianmo in surprise, knowing how the events at the Yu family had shaken Green Cloud City these past thirteen years.
They all believed Yi Qianmo now had no value except as a connection to the Yu family, making other powers cautious. Lei Yuhu’s attempt to take a concubine had considered the Yu family’s influence, which was why he hadn’t pressed as forcefully as he might have thirteen years ago. Taking a concubine was merely a tactical move.
