Chapter 39: What Is Xiao Xu?
The crowd exchanged puzzled glances, their thoughts mirroring Su Muyu’s statement. How could Yi Qianmo, a boy who had spent thirteen years in servitude within the Yu family, possibly be Su Muyu’s teacher? Their statuses were as different as heaven and earth.
Yet, Su Muyu nodded firmly. “That’s right. Yi Qianmo is indeed my teacher.”
The words stunned everyone into silence. Yu Changqing, still sprawled on the ground, turned pale. “Your Highness… please don’t joke with me!”
“Who said I was joking?” Su Muyu retorted, producing a token from her pocket. “Not only is Yi Qianmo my teacher, but he is also the Minister Professor of my Tianyuan Academy!”
The crowd gasped.
“The Tianyuan Decree! This is the token of Tianyuan Academy!” someone exclaimed.
“It’s said that anyone who holds the Tianyuan Decree can gain entry to the inner sanctum of the academy. Who is this woman, and how does she possess it?”
“She disregards the Xuanyuan Sect entirely, and Yu Changqing still addresses her as ‘Your Highness.’ Could she be… the Princess of Jinyang?”
Recognition dawned on the faces of the crowd. Princess Jinyang—Su Muyu—was the most beloved sister of King Yan, a member of the royal family whose authority surpassed nearly all others in the Yan Kingdom.
Yi Danian and Yi Tianyang exchanged glances before shifting their gaze to Yi Qianmo, who sat calmly amidst the chaos, unperturbed by the revelations.
As the crowd followed their gaze, their astonishment deepened. No one could reconcile the image of this young man with the identity Su Muyu proclaimed: her teacher and Minister Professor of Tianyuan Academy.
Yu Changqing, meanwhile, was desperate to make sense of the situation. “Your Highness,” he began, clinging to hope, “do you know that he killed a disciple of the Xuanyuan Sect? If you protect him, it means Tianyuan Academy will be at odds with the Xuanyuan Sect!”
Su Muyu shot him a cold look. “What is Xiao Xu? Do you think the Xuanyuan Sect would go to war with Tianyuan Academy over an outer disciple?”
Yu Changqing paled. “If Xiao Xu is insignificant, what about Yu Youwei?” he stammered.
“Yu Youwei?” Su Muyu sneered. “Yi Qianmo’s worth far surpasses hers. The Yu family has been blind to the treasure in their grasp!”
Lowering her voice, Su Muyu turned to Yi Qianmo and asked, “Teacher, how do you wish to handle this?”
The title “teacher” crushed the last vestiges of Yu Changqing’s hope.
Yi Qianmo stepped forward, but Yi Danian intercepted him. “Leave him to me,” the old man said.
With a nod from Yi Qianmo, Su Muyu stepped back.
“Hahaha…” Yu Changqing laughed bitterly, struggling to his feet. “Yi Danian, do you think Tianyuan Academy can shield your family? You’ve opened a door to disaster! And you, Su Muyu, what kind of spell has Yi Qianmo cast on you?”
Before he could utter another word, Yi Danian’s sword flashed, silencing him forever.
Yi Tianyang followed suit, slashing down Steward Yu without hesitation. “Kill!” he roared.
The Yi family surged forward, overwhelming the Yu family guards. Resistance crumbled in moments. Those who surrendered were shown no mercy. The once-mighty Yu family was annihilated, its loyalists obliterated.
By the time Yi Tianyu arrived, intending to escape with Yi Lingyu, the battle had already ended. He froze in disbelief at the sight before him.
In the quiet of a secret chamber, Yi Qianmo sat cross-legged, meditating to restore his spiritual power.
“Congratulations, Teacher, on reaching the first level of the Qi Refining Stage,” Su Muyu said with a bow.
Yi Qianmo opened his eyes, his gaze sharp. “How long were you outside?”
Caught off guard, Su Muyu hesitated. “Not long. I arrived during your fight with Xiao Xu. I knew you could handle him and didn’t want to interrupt.”
“Didn’t want to interrupt, or wanted to test me?” Yi Qianmo’s voice was cold.
Su Muyu’s composed expression faltered under his scrutiny. The young man before her, though years younger, radiated the authority of a seasoned elder.
Forcing a smile, she replied, “If you lacked strength, I wouldn’t have chosen you as my teacher.”
Yi Qianmo’s lips curled into a smirk. “Interesting. The master tests the student, not the other way around. Were you waiting for me to kill Xiao Xu, so there’d be no turning back?”
Su Muyu stiffened, her confidence crumbling. She had underestimated him.
“The teacher is wise,” she admitted, her voice cautious. “You and the Xuanyuan Sect were destined to clash. I merely expedited the inevitable.”
Yi Qianmo’s gaze hardened. “How I handle my choices is none of your concern. There will not be a next time, do you understand?”
Cold sweat beaded on Su Muyu’s brow. Bowing deeply, she said, “I understand, Teacher. It will not happen again. To prove my sincerity, I’ve already dealt with the remnants of the Yu family for you.”
Yi Qianmo’s expression softened slightly.
“What is your plan now, Teacher?” Su Muyu asked. “Yu Youwei is said to be on Green Dragon Mountain, but I advise against confronting her yet. Return to Tianyuan Academy with me first.”
Yi Qianmo’s eyes glinted. “If we’re destined to meet, why not now?”
Su Muyu hesitated before forcing a smile. “Tianyuan Academy will ensure your safety, Teacher. You can trust us.”
