Chapter 29: The Humble Su Muyu
Seeing her momentary silence, Yi Qianmo asked directly, “You seem to have a close relationship with Yu Youwei.”
Su Muyu’s demeanor softened. “Not really. A few years ago, I occasionally stayed with the Yu family when I came to Green Cloud City. That’s how I met her.”
Her tone had completely shifted—no longer arrogant but inquisitive. “Can you really make elixirs? Even without spiritual power?”
“Yes,” Yi Qianmo replied calmly. “But the conditions are quite stringent.”
“When you mentioned your family’s tradition earlier, were you joking?” Su Muyu pressed.
“Do I look like I’m joking?” Yi Qianmo shot back.
Su Muyu frowned, her skepticism evident. Given the Yi family’s humble status, the idea of them possessing methods from immortal families seemed absurd.
As if reading her thoughts, Yi Qianmo explained, “Our ancestor was once an immortal. After the family’s decline, his teachings were lost—until I rediscovered his pill-refining methods along with some ancient pills on our ancestral land.”
Su Muyu’s expression sharpened. “So these pills weren’t made by you?”
“No,” Yi Qianmo admitted without hesitation.
Her face darkened with anger. “How dare you deceive me!”
“Even though these specific pills weren’t crafted by me, it wouldn’t be difficult to create them,” Yi Qianmo said calmly. “I’ve inherited the true teachings of my ancestors.”
Su Muyu laughed mockingly. “Who do you think you are? If refining pills were that simple, then—”
Before she could finish, Yi Qianmo took out a pill. With a flick of his hand, he circulated his energy, causing the pill to float above his palm. Slowly, it began to disintegrate under his control.
At first, Su Muyu thought he was merely crushing it. But as she observed more closely, her expression turned serious.
“Pill Reversal Technique!” she exclaimed, her eyes wide with disbelief.
This was no ordinary skill. The Pill Reversal Technique was a high-level method used by advanced Pill Masters to deconstruct pills and analyze their composition—a crucial ability for replicating rare recipes. Yet Yi Qianmo, who had not even entered the Qi Refining Stage, was performing it with precision far exceeding standard techniques.
Her initial disdain melted into awe as she watched the pill separate into vibrant liquids, each emitting a unique fragrance. Finally, with a wave of his hand, Yi Qianmo dispersed the liquids into delicate mists.
Su Muyu’s voice trembled. “You… you really are capable of refining pills!”
Yi Qianmo’s tone remained composed. “Did I ever say otherwise?”
Without hesitation, Su Muyu produced the Tianyuan Decree. “Take this! Come with me to the capital. Join Tianyuan Academy, and you can have whatever you desire.”
Her urgency was palpable. A talented Pill Master, even an unrefined one, was invaluable in the Yan Kingdom. Any major sect would fiercely compete for someone with such potential.
But Yi Qianmo didn’t reach for the decree. “With my talent, any of the Four Great Sects would welcome me. Why should I choose Tianyuan Academy?”
If this had been before, Su Muyu would have scoffed and walked away. But now, her demeanor was subdued. Yi Qianmo’s display had shattered her earlier arrogance. His potential was undeniable. If he entered the Qi Refining Stage, his mastery could surpass even the most advanced Pill Masters, causing a stir throughout the kingdom.
Su Muyu hesitated. The Tianyuan Decree, which once seemed like an irresistible offer, now felt insignificant compared to what the Four Great Sects might propose.
After a long silence, she finally said, “Because Tianyuan Academy is the only place willing to protect you against the Xuanyuan Sect.”
Yi Qianmo frowned. “Why would I need to fight the Xuanyuan Sect? With my current skills, they’d have to choose between me and Yu Youwei.”
“Not a chance,” Su Muyu countered. “Do you know who Yu Youwei became a disciple of when she joined the Xuanyuan Sect?”
“Who?” Yi Qianmo asked, his tone laced with concern.
“The headmaster himself,” Su Muyu revealed. “She’s his personal disciple and is set to marry the Young Sect Leader. Soon, she’ll be the future sect master’s wife.”
Yi Qianmo’s emotions churned. Despite his resentment toward Yu Youwei, he couldn’t deny the remnants of his past feelings for her.
After a long pause, he regained his composure. “There are still three other great sects for me to choose from.”
Su Muyu shook her head. “No sect would risk offending the Xuanyuan Sect over a Pill Master who hasn’t fully developed yet. Especially considering your history with Yu Youwei. The Xuanyuan Sect would never let you go.”
Yi Qianmo looked her in the eye. “And what about Tianyuan Academy? Would they dare oppose the Xuanyuan Sect?”
Su Muyu hesitated, then admitted, “On our own, no. But if you become a member of the Yan Kingdom’s royal family and join Tianyuan Academy, we’ll do everything in our power to protect you.”
He raised an eyebrow. “And how, exactly, am I supposed to become royalty?”
Su Muyu blushed faintly and looked away. “Simple. Marry me.”
“…”
Yi Qianmo stared at her, stunned.
Sensing his shock, Su Muyu quickly clarified, “Don’t misunderstand. This is purely about recruitment. And…” She faltered, her cheeks reddening further. “If you truly become an advanced Pill Master, marrying you would be… beneficial for me as well.”
She expected him to accept immediately. After all, he was merely a mortal from Green Cloud City, while she was offering him an opportunity to join the royal family and Tianyuan Academy.
But to her surprise, Yi Qianmo responded without hesitation.
“No.”
