Chapter 28: An Heirloom
After Mr. Hu left, Yi Qianmo handed all the lower-grade Qi Nourishing Pills to his grandfather and proceeded to the reception room.
While these pills were valuable to Yi Qianmo, his possession of medium- and high-grade Qi Nourishing Pills made it easier for him to focus on advancing to the Qi Refining Stage. The lower-grade pills would serve his grandfather better. If his grandfather could break through to the Qi Refining Stage, the Yi family’s position in Green Cloud City would solidify further.
Upon entering the reception room, he saw his younger sister, Yi Lingyu, laughing and chatting with a woman in white—the same woman he had encountered earlier at the Medicine Market.
Seeing him, Yi Lingyu ran over excitedly.
“Brother, this sister says she can help us,” she said with a bright smile.
Yi Qianmo smiled back and patted her head. “Lingyu, go see Grandpa. He said he has a gift for you.”
“Okay!” Yi Lingyu chirped and darted out of the room, closing the door behind her.
Yi Qianmo sat across from the woman in white. “Why are you here? I recall already giving you that spiritual herb.”
“If you hadn’t given me that herb, I might not have come alone,” the woman replied, her tone composed.
Raising an eyebrow, Yi Qianmo asked, “What do you mean?”
“I live with the Yu family.”
Her words made Yi Qianmo’s expression darken. She continued, “If I wanted to, destroying your Yi family would be as simple as a word.”
“Are you a helper sent by the Yu family?” he asked, his voice icy.
“Helper?” She chuckled and shook her head. “That depends on whether you know how to behave. But I am here on my own behalf—or, more accurately, on behalf of Tianyuan Academy.”
Yi Qianmo’s eyes narrowed. “Tianyuan Academy? You mean the one in the Yan Kingdom?”
Su Muyu looked surprised. “It seems Yu Youwei shared more secrets with you than I expected.”
Yi Qianmo remained silent, scrutinizing her carefully. While Su Muyu had seemed unremarkable before, the mention of Tianyuan Academy changed everything.
The Yan Kingdom, where Green Cloud City was located, had hundreds of such cities, with its royal capital as the kingdom’s heart. Tianyuan Academy, established by the royal family, was considered the only institution in the Yan Kingdom that could rival the immortal sects.
“What do you want?” Yi Qianmo asked finally.
“I’m here to offer you an opportunity.”
She leaned forward slightly. “With my help, you could enter Tianyuan Academy. Once inside, even if Yu Youwei joins the Xuanyuan Sect, she would no longer concern you.”
Yi Qianmo’s expression remained guarded. “As far as I know, Tianyuan Academy may rival the immortal sects but isn’t quite the same.”
“That was true in the past,” Su Muyu countered, “but today, Tianyuan Academy stands alongside the Four Great Immortal Sects.”
Yi Qianmo’s eyes narrowed. “You’re not an immortal, are you?”
“Not yet,” she admitted calmly.
“Then how can you help me enter Tianyuan Academy?” he asked skeptically.
Instead of answering, Su Muyu retrieved a token from her pocket. It bore the ancient characters for Tianyuan.
“The Tianyuan Decree!” Yi Qianmo exclaimed, standing abruptly. “Who are you, really?”
Possessing the Tianyuan Decree meant direct admission into Tianyuan Academy—not just the outer mansion but the elite inner mansion for training.
“You don’t need to know who I am,” Su Muyu replied smoothly. “You only need to know I can give you this chance.”
Yi Qianmo’s skepticism deepened. “Opportunities like this don’t fall from the sky without a price.”
Su Muyu smirked. “You’re as sharp-tongued as Yu Youwei.”
She tucked the decree back into her pocket. “You’re right—nothing is free. To earn the Tianyuan Decree and enter the inner mansion, you must prove your worth. I’m curious—do you have what it takes?”
Yi Qianmo understood the implication. “You want to know how my family suddenly gained two innate talents, and how I advanced so quickly to the innate stage?”
Su Muyu nodded.
Without hesitation, Yi Qianmo pulled out a jade bottle and poured out a single pill.
“Qi Nourishing Pill! Medium grade!”
Su Muyu’s composure cracked. She reached out instinctively to grab it but stopped when Yi Qianmo withdrew the pill.
“You lost control over a medium-grade Qi Nourishing Pill?” Yi Qianmo’s voice was tinged with mockery. “Is this the composure of someone from Tianyuan Academy?”
Though flustered, Su Muyu managed to respond. “While medium-grade Qi Nourishing Pills aren’t rare in Tianyuan Academy, they’re not common either. But in Green Cloud City… in your hands…”
Her voice trailed off as she stared at him. “How did you acquire such a pill?”
“I made it,” Yi Qianmo said plainly.
Su Muyu froze, then laughed coldly. “You? A mere mortal? How could you possibly refine pills? You don’t even have spiritual power!”
Yi Qianmo remained unfazed. “Three hundred-year-old Huangjing, one Dragon Lizard Grass, thirty leaves of Seven Fragrance…”
He proceeded to list the ingredients and intricate details of the Qi Nourishing Pill’s refinement process, his voice calm but precise.
Su Muyu’s initial skepticism gave way to astonishment as he spoke. By the time he finished, her mouth was slightly agape, and her eyes betrayed disbelief.
“Where did you learn all this?” she demanded, her voice trembling. “Yu Youwei isn’t a Pill Master; she couldn’t have taught you.”
Yi Qianmo smiled faintly. “It’s a family secret.”
Su Muyu was left speechless.
