Chapter 26: The Lost Dog
The Yi family stood triumphant.
After Lei Yuntian’s death, the battle between the factions intensified, but the tide had turned decisively in favor of the Yi family.
Huang Xingchu, though stronger than Lei Yuntian, found himself evenly matched by Yi Danian. However, with Lei Yuntian’s demise and Yi Qianmo joining the fray, Huang Xingchu’s composure shattered.
Yi Qianmo’s blade struck Huang Xingchu before he could react, the unexpected blow disrupting the rhythm of the fight entirely.
From a distance, Mr. Hu witnessed the scene, his face paling. He shoved Yi Tianyang aside and turned to flee, but a chilling sensation stopped him in his tracks.
Turning back, he saw Yi Qianmo standing nearby, his cold, piercing gaze fixed on him.
Mr. Hu hesitated, his back drenched in sweat. Running now would likely mean instant death at the hands of this terrifying youth.
Swallowing his fear, he spoke. “I joined the Lei family later as a guest and bear no deep hatred for your Yi family. If you spare me, I am willing to serve you instead!”
Meanwhile, Huang Xingchu, wounded and disoriented, was losing ground under Yi Danian’s relentless attacks. His defeat seemed inevitable.
At Mr. Hu’s words, Huang Lixing shouted angrily, “You traitor! How dare you betray us?”
“Betray?” Mr. Hu retorted calmly. “I was never a servant of the Lei family. I am merely a guest, paid to serve.”
His divided attention proved costly. Yi Tianyu, seizing the moment, launched a swift attack, forcing Mr. Hu into disarray.
But before the battle could escalate, a shadow emerged behind Huang Lixing. A blade pierced through his chest, silencing him mid-protest.
Looking down at the bloodied blade, Huang Lixing gasped, “You… traitor…”
The shadow pulled the sword free, and Huang Lixing collapsed, lifeless.
“Xing’er!”
Huang Xingchu’s anguished cry echoed through the hall. His hair was disheveled, his eyes blazing with rage as he fought like a cornered beast. But Yi Danian held him firmly in place.
Kneeling on one knee, Mr. Hu raised his bloodied sword. “This is my proof of loyalty,” he declared.
Yi Tianyang, prepared to resume their fight, paused. He glanced at Yi Qianmo, awaiting his decision.
Despite not yet being the official head of the family, Yi Qianmo commanded an authority none dared challenge—not even Yi Danian.
Yi Qianmo remained silent, his gaze shifting to Huang Xingchu.
Just then, Huang Xingchu shoved Yi Danian aside with a desperate strike and turned to flee.
Yi Danian, stunned by the move, hesitated. “He’s escaping?”
Huang Xingchu’s feigned struggle had masked his true intent—to run.
“This man must not live!” Yi Danian leaped forward in pursuit.
“Grandfather, let him go,” Yi Qianmo called out firmly.
Yi Danian froze, baffled. Turning to his grandson, he asked, “Qianmo, did you let him escape on purpose?”
Yi Qianmo’s calm reply unsettled him. “There’s no need to kill him. His son wasn’t slain by us.”
He cast a meaningful glance at Mr. Hu, who visibly paled.
Realization dawned on Mr. Hu as dread consumed him. Yi Qianmo’s reasoning became clear. As long as Huang Xingchu lived, Mr. Hu would remain bound to the Yi family. The boy’s strategy was as sharp as his blade.
“From now on, you are a guest elder of the Yi family,” Yi Qianmo declared coldly. “We will treat you well, but if you betray us, your end will be far worse than theirs.”
Mr. Hu, trembling, lowered himself onto both knees. “I understand,” he whispered, his voice quaking.
Yi Tianyang exhaled deeply, relieved. His initial distrust of Mr. Hu dissipated, replaced by admiration for Yi Qianmo’s foresight.
“Compared to my elder brother’s rigidness,” Yi Tianyang mused, “my nephew possesses a much deeper wisdom.”
Yi Danian, observing quietly, smiled with pride. The Yi family’s future was in capable hands.
The battle ended decisively. Huang Xingchu had fled, and Huang Lixing lay dead. The remaining guards, sensing the shift in power, turned on their former allies.
Within moments, the Yi family’s courtyard was strewn with the bodies of their enemies.
Word spread quickly through Green Cloud City.
“The Lei and Huang families, gone in one night?”
“No one expected this. The Yi family hid their strength well.”
“Four innate experts appearing out of nowhere? It’s as if the heavens themselves blessed them!”
Rumors flew, each more sensational than the last. Some claimed the Yu family had secretly allied with the Yi family, ensuring their dominance.
“The city will never be the same,” whispered many.
As thunder rumbled overhead, rain poured from the darkened skies.
High atop Green Cloud City, a lone figure clad in black stood, a straw hat shielding him from the storm. His bloodshot eyes burned with vengeance as he stared toward the grandest mansion in the city.
“Yu Changqing,” he growled, his voice dripping with hatred, “just you wait. I, Huang Xingchu, will not rest until one of us lies dead.”
Once the most powerful man in the city, Huang Xingchu was now a fugitive—a stray dog, consumed by the fire of revenge.
