Chapter 15: I Want It
Yi Qianmo explained that during his thirteen years with the Yu family, besides being used as a furnace, he had taken pills daily and learned some alchemy techniques.
This wasn’t entirely a lie. While serving as Yu Youwei’s furnace, he had absorbed precious herbs and consumed pills to strengthen his body. However, the strengthening was solely to generate Nine Yang energy, which Yu Youwei needed for her cultivation.
With a sliver of hope in mind, Yi Danian decided to let Yi Lingyu take Yi Qianmo to the family’s Secret Warehouse to select materials himself.
After the siblings left, Yi Danian called Yi Tianyang over.
“Prepare yourself,” Yi Danian instructed gravely. “When the major families join forces against us, take Qianmo and Lingyu and leave.”
“Father, what are you saying?” Yi Tianyang asked, perplexed. “Didn’t Qianmo say he’d practice alchemy?”
“Alchemy?” Yi Danian smiled faintly. “Qianmo is a strong child, much like your brother. Do you truly believe what he says?”
Yi Tianyang’s admiration for Yi Qianmo since his return began to waver. He had witnessed Yi Qianmo rescue the family from peril and even kill Lei He, feats that seemed extraordinary.
But now, reflecting carefully, Yi Tianyang realized: a martial artist with damaged vital channels was doomed unless a celestial being intervened. And while Yu Youwei had achieved celestial status, the Yu family lacked the resources to create medicine capable of repairing vital channels.
“I was blinded,” Yi Tianyang admitted with a sigh. “But can we truly escape?”
“We’ve killed Lei He and driven back the Lei family. The Yi family appears stronger than ever—no one will suspect we plan to flee,” Yi Danian explained. “You must take Qianmo and go. Never return.”
“Father, I…” Yi Tianyang clenched his fists, unwilling to leave.
But Yi Danian’s decision was final. Even Tianyang could not sway him.
Meanwhile, Yi Lingyu led Yi Qianmo into the Yi family’s Secret Warehouse, an underground vault filled with the family’s most prized possessions.
Using Yi Danian’s key, they unlocked the warehouse. Inside, shelves towered with books, antiques, weapons, and rare herbs.
Yi Qianmo’s eyes immediately scanned the shelves of herbs. Although the Yi family had maintained a low profile for years, they had amassed a notable collection of precious herbs.
But as he examined them, his face fell.
“These herbs are useless,” Yi Qianmo muttered.
“Useless?” Yi Lingyu asked, puzzled. “Some are over a hundred years old. Grandpa saved them for you.”
Yi Qianmo gently patted her head. “They’ve lost their essence. Even if they’re centuries old, they’re no longer potent enough for medicine. At best, they’re helpful for ordinary people.”
“Ah…” Yi Lingyu looked crestfallen. “But, brother, do you really plan to make medicine? We don’t even have a Pill Furnace! Isn’t that something only immortals have?”
“Not having a Pill Furnace isn’t the end of the world—it’s just inconvenient,” Yi Qianmo replied. “But without special herbs…”
He trailed off, deep in thought.
Yi Lingyu suddenly brightened. “Brother, I know a place that might have what you need!”
“Where?” Yi Qianmo asked.
“The city market. There are herbalists who sell wild herbs they’ve gathered from the mountains,” she explained hesitantly. “But…”
Yi Qianmo finished her thought. “But we just killed Lei He, and the other families are watching us. Leaving now would be dangerous, right?”
Seeing her nod, Yi Qianmo smiled. “Let’s go anyway.”
“Ah, but…” Yi Lingyu’s protests were futile as Yi Qianmo took her hand and led her out.
An hour later, they arrived at Green Cloud City’s bustling market.
Whispers about the Yi family’s recent battle buzzed through the air:
“The son-in-law of the Yu family has returned to the Yi family. They say he mastered the Great Yi Sword Technique and defeated Lei Yuhu!”
“Not just Lei Yuhu—three Lei family members sought revenge but were crushed. The Yi family’s been hiding a powerful master!”
“That master isn’t the head of the Yi family; it’s the Yu family’s son-in-law. He even killed Lei He, a master warrior!”
Yi Lingyu nervously glanced around, knowing that her brother’s actions had placed a target on their backs. But Yi Qianmo strolled confidently, unfazed by the chatter.
As they wandered, Yi Lingyu guided him toward the Medicine Market. Shops lined the streets, each selling various herbs. The Yi family even owned one of the stores.
But Yi Qianmo paid little attention to the shops. Their herbs, though well-preserved, lacked spirit Qi and were no different from ordinary dried plants.
Instead, he focused on the herbalists’ stalls, where freshly picked herbs were displayed. Yet, after scanning the area, he found nothing containing spirit Qi.
Still, he purchased some auxiliary herbs. Though not suitable for immortal elixirs, they would suffice for gathering Qi pills—an essential step for martial artists transitioning from acquired to innate stages.
As disappointment began to set in, a new herbalist entered the market. Yi Qianmo’s eyes immediately locked onto a particular herb in the man’s basket.
It seemed ordinary, but faint spirit Qi emanated from it.
He approached swiftly. “How much for this herb?”
Before the herbalist could respond, another figure appeared beside Yi Qianmo, pointing at the same herb.
“I want this herb!” the newcomer declared.
