Chapter 8: An Unprecedented Path
“How do you feel now?” Zhou Tian asked.
“I feel fantastic!” Liu Ji’s face lit up. “The pain’s vanished—like I’m twenty years younger.”
Liu Han, overjoyed, pressed, “Father, are you truly better?”
Liu Ji nodded.
Zhou Tian said, “I told you—no need for kneeling. Stand.”
Liu Ji scrambled up, overwhelmed. He’d thought his time was up, yet Zhou Tian had revived him—an act of rebirth.
Zhou Xue, too, was stunned. In two short hours, so much had happened it felt like a dream.
Zhou Tian turned to her. “Xiaoxue, full now? Want to rest?”
Zhou Xue nodded. She’d taken an overnight green train to Ninghai, no sleep—exhaustion weighed on her.
Liu Ji, catching the hint, hurried, “Uncle Zhou, I’ll arrange the finest rooms for you and Little Aunt at once.”
He glared at Liu Han. “Well? Move! Don’t just stand there!”
Liu Han snapped to, hurrying off.
Zhou Xue, flustered, waved at Liu Ji. “Grandpa, you’re older—don’t call me ‘Little Aunt.’ Just Xiaoxue is fine.”
Liu Ji bowed respectfully. “You’re Uncle Zhou’s sister—naturally my aunt. Please, don’t insist.”
Zhou Xue squirmed. Being called “aunt” by an old man felt absurd. But more than that, questions swirled about her brother. He’d looked the same since she could remember—never aging. Could he really be immortal? It seemed too fantastical.
Zhou Tian said, “Let’s rest first. We’ll handle the rest later.”
Liu Ji led them to the hotel’s most luxurious presidential suite—over 200 square meters, three opulent bedrooms, adorned with top-tier furniture and appliances from around the globe.
Zhou Xue gaped. She’d never seen such luxury, not even on TV.
Curious, she asked, “Grandpa, how much is this room per night?”
Liu Ji rushed to correct, “Little Aunt, call me Liu Ji—‘grandpa’ is too much.”
“This suite is our finest. Eighteen thousand eight hundred a night.”
Zhou Xue froze. That was more than two years of her livestream earnings.
Liu Ji added, “If you like it, stay as long as you wish. It’s always reserved for you.”
“No, no!” Zhou Xue waved frantically. “Just curious.”
Liu Ji looked panicked. “Little Aunt, please—you mustn’t. It dishonors me.”
Zhou Tian interjected, “Let her call you what she likes. You are older—her using your name would feel awkward.”
Liu Ji bowed. “As you say, Uncle Zhou.”
Zhou Tian said, “You may leave. I need rest—to sort my thoughts.”
Liu Ji hurried, “Rest well, Uncle Zhou, Little Aunt. I’ll take my leave.”
He withdrew.
Zhou Xue circled Zhou Tian, eyes full of questions.
“Brother, what’s happening? This feels like a dream. Pinch me—see?”
Zhou Tian pinched her cheek. “Not a dream. I meant what I said. You’ve worked hard—enjoy Ninghai these two days. We have business after.”
“Business?” Zhou Xue asked.
“Revenge for your parents,” Zhou Tian’s eyes turned cold—he thought of the Liu family.
During his nirvana, he’d been muddled, a fool to the world. Ignorant then, but now? All memories returned.
In those twenty years, Zhou Xue’s parents had loved him like their own—never a complaint, even when he was helpless. To say he felt nothing would be a lie.
Five thousand years of loneliness had made rare moments of simple warmth precious. Their deaths had stirred something in him.
Coincidence? Unlikely. What role had the Liu family’s young master played? He’d find out.
Zhou Xue’s eyes reddened. She bowed her head, fighting tears.
“Brother… maybe we should let it go.”
Zhou Tian frowned. “You don’t want answers about their deaths?”
Zhou Xue shook her head, hesitating. “The Liu family is powerful. I… I’m scared of losing you.”
Zhou Tian’s heart softened. He stroked her hair. “I promise—I’ll be safe.
The Liu family is nothing to me. Crushing them would be trivial. But I’m no brute. I’ll have it investigated. If they’re guilty, every hand involved will regret it.”
Zhou Xue met his confident gaze, heart stirring. Her brother was truly changed.
From this day on, their lives would take an unprecedented turn…
