Chapter 47: Mu Xiaofeng’s Strength
After Wu Xiaoxing was sent flying by the third bandit, the latter grabbed his hammer and charged toward him. Just as the hammer was about to smash down, Xi Mo had already rushed to Wu Xiaoxing’s side, raising his twin shields. With a loud “clang,” Xi Mo managed to block the blow. However, even though he caught the hammer, blood trickled from his hands from the sheer impact—Xi Mo was clearly still too inexperienced to face Old Three.
At this moment, a man in a purple robe emerged from the forest. This man was likely the leader of the bandits. Glaring angrily at Xi Mo, he was clearly displeased that Xi Mo had saved Wu Xiaoxing. Slowly, he spoke to the others: “Now, let me show you my power—Blizzard Domain.” As he finished speaking, the purple glow from his staff intensified, and suddenly, snowflakes began falling from the sky, accompanied by fierce winds. The entire forest became engulfed in a blizzard. With the blizzard in full force, everyone’s vision was severely impaired. Unless they were very close to each other, it became nearly impossible to see.
Xi Mo and Wu Xiaoxing were now separated from the others, and Xi Mo sensed the danger. He shouted toward the group, but the howling wind drowned out his voice. Both Xi Mo and Wu Xiaoxing grew anxious, unsure of what to do. Wu Xiaoxing was also injured, and without treatment, they would surely be at a disadvantage.
Meanwhile, the others caught in the Blizzard Domain anxiously searched their surroundings. They were worried about Xi Mo and Wu Xiaoxing but couldn’t come up with a good strategy. At this moment, Mo Huaichou gathered all his energy and released his mechanical minions, which scattered in every direction. Mo Huaichou was employing a search strategy using sheer numbers, hoping to locate Xi Mo and Wu Xiaoxing. However, this effort had nearly drained all his energy. If he succeeded, he would be rendered temporarily useless.
As Mu Xiaofeng’s group of four hurried along, they suddenly noticed snow falling ahead, surprising them. Qin Baoyi recognized this spell—it was a water-element domain spell, capable of altering the environment. Just then, a shadowy figure appeared before them—Old Five. Twirling his short knives menacingly, he spoke with a wicked tone, “Children, don’t run. I’m not done playing with you yet.”
Old Five’s sudden appearance made Mu Xiaofeng’s heart skip a beat. It meant that Chen Jianba had already been defeated by him, but Mu Xiaofeng couldn’t help but wonder what had become of Chen Jianba. Forcing himself to stay calm, Mu Xiaofeng asked Old Five, “Where is Chen Jianba? What did you do to him?”
Old Five burst out laughing, then replied, “Don’t worry. I haven’t killed him yet. I’m not done having my fun. I’m going to torture all of you slowly.” Hearing this, Mu Xiaofeng felt slightly relieved. If Chen Jianba had been killed, who knew what the Six Great Clans would do in retaliation.
Despite this, Mu Xiaofeng knew that their group was no match for Old Five. Drawing his greatsword, Mu Xiaofeng pointed it at Old Five and said, “I’ll duel you now, but you must let them go. Besides, your comrades are up ahead, and they won’t get far.” Mu Xiaofeng was certain that this Blizzard Domain had been created by the bandits, as no one in their own group could use such a spell.
Old Five thought for a moment and agreed that Mu Xiaofeng’s reasoning made sense. The “Blizzard Domain” created by his leader was difficult to escape from once someone entered. Nodding, Old Five said, “Fine, I’ll agree. Let’s see how much fun you can bring me, little one.”
Mu Xiaofeng signaled Zhang Wenyu and the others to leave, but Qiao Zi was reluctant to go. She feared for Mu Xiaofeng’s safety, worried that Old Five might kill him. Mu Xiaofeng reassured her softly, “Qiao Zi, go quickly and meet up with the others. Tell them what’s happening here. I’ll hold out until you return.” After gently patting Qiao Zi’s head, Mu Xiaofeng had Zhang Wenyu pull her away, and the three of them disappeared into the blizzard.
Old Five sneered at Mu Xiaofeng standing alone before him. After all, Mu Xiaofeng was just a child, while he was a seasoned bandit. With a flash of his dagger, Old Five rushed at Mu Xiaofeng at high speed. Before Mu Xiaofeng could react, Old Five had kicked him to the ground. Mu Xiaofeng hadn’t even seen him move before being knocked down. Struggling to his feet, he held his greatsword in front of him, thinking, “This guy’s skills are far superior to mine. I need to find a way to escape. If I can make it into that blizzard, I might have a chance.”
Old Five noticed Mu Xiaofeng eyeing the Blizzard Domain behind him and knew he was trying to escape. Laughing, he shouted, “Hey, kid! Don’t think you can run into that blizzard unless you plan on crawling in!” It was clear Old Five wouldn’t allow Mu Xiaofeng to enter the Blizzard Domain. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Mu Xiaofeng had no choice but to charge forward with his greatsword, trying to make it to the blizzard.
Old Five quickly intercepted Mu Xiaofeng, sending him flying with another kick. Mu Xiaofeng got back up and tried to run again, only to be knocked down once more. After rubbing his aching stomach, he raised his sword and charged forward yet again.
Seeing Mu Xiaofeng persist in trying to escape, Old Five couldn’t help but chuckle. “Kid, it’s no use. No matter how many times you try, I’ll just knock you back.” He rushed at Mu Xiaofeng again, aiming another kick at his stomach. However, this time, Mu Xiaofeng channeled his energy into his greatsword, blocking Old Five’s leg. Old Five hadn’t expected Mu Xiaofeng to block his attack. Mu Xiaofeng took a few more steps forward, but Old Five quickly swept Mu Xiaofeng off his feet, sending him crashing to the ground.
Though Old Five had stopped Mu Xiaofeng’s escape, he was shocked. “Impossible,” he thought. “Could this kid actually be seeing my moves? There’s no way a child of his abilities could do that!” Even though Mu Xiaofeng now had another injury, a faint smile appeared on his lips as he charged toward the Blizzard Domain once more.At this moment, Old Five was starting to feel a bit flustered and once again moved to block Mu Xiaofeng. However, this time, Mu Xiaofeng used his heavy sword to once again intercept Old Five’s leg. Panicking, Old Five squatted low and swept his leg, but Mu Xiaofeng leaped into the air, dodging the attack.
Old Five was astonished. “Impossible!” he thought, hurriedly reaching out to grab Mu Xiaofeng’s leg and yanking him back. Although the move didn’t seriously harm Mu Xiaofeng, it successfully halted his advance. A smile crept across Old Five’s face as he called out to Mu Xiaofeng, “Little brat, I finally know how you’ve been dodging my attacks. You can’t actually see my moves—you’re just memorizing them!”
Mu Xiaofeng didn’t seem to mind, giving a slight smile. “Oh? Is that what you think? Why don’t you try your same moves again and see what happens?” Hearing this, Old Five smirked in disbelief. He didn’t believe Mu Xiaofeng could read his moves, and with a sneer, he said, “Hah! Little brat, go ahead and try. Let’s see if you’ve got what it takes to make it into that blizzard.”
Raising his heavy sword, Mu Xiaofeng charged toward Old Five once more. Old Five repeated the same pattern, but Mu Xiaofeng skillfully countered each move. Just as Old Five was about to grab Mu Xiaofeng’s hand, Mu Xiaofeng rolled on the ground and dodged his leg sweep. Delighted, Old Five thought, “He doesn’t know this next move.” He swung his leg again, expecting to send Mu Xiaofeng flying.
But this time, Mu Xiaofeng rolled on the ground and narrowly evaded the kick. Old Five was shocked. “How could this be? How could this brat dodge my move? Can he actually see my attacks?” Without stopping, Old Five planted his foot firmly on the ground and lunged at Mu Xiaofeng. But with a light sidestep, Mu Xiaofeng easily avoided his grasp. Enraged, Old Five turned and kicked again, only to miss once more. Now furious, Old Five channeled his energy and unleashed a barrage of kicks. Despite Mu Xiaofeng’s efforts to dodge, the difference in strength became apparent, and he was eventually struck.
Mu Xiaofeng was kicked back to where he started, clutching his painful wounds, but he kept his gaze fixed on Old Five. Old Five was stunned by this kid standing before him. Though Mu Xiaofeng still hadn’t made it into the blizzard field, his successful dodges were enough to shock Old Five, who was now forced to exert himself fully.
Drawing a dagger, Old Five pointed it at Mu Xiaofeng and said, “Little brat, you’ve surprised me with your strength. It seems I underestimated you. Now the real game begins, but this time, I won’t go easy on you. My next move won’t be something you can predict.”
Mu Xiaofeng smiled slightly, using his heavy sword to prop himself up. He said to Old Five, “Actually, I can’t see your moves at all. I’ve just been predicting your next attacks based on the patterns from before. Your moves got too fast, and I couldn’t keep up, which is why you landed a hit on me.” As Old Five suspected, Mu Xiaofeng’s abilities weren’t enough to clearly see his attacks. But the fact that Mu Xiaofeng could predict his moves was even more astonishing.
Gritting his teeth, Old Five’s energy surged through his entire body as he charged at Mu Xiaofeng. The gleaming dagger in his hand shot forward like a meteor, aiming directly for Mu Xiaofeng’s throat. It seemed Mu Xiaofeng was now in grave danger.
