Chapter 41: The Envoy
The guard of the Yun Mansion charged towards Mu Xiaofeng and struck out with a palm aimed directly at his chest. Mu Xiaofeng tried to dodge, but the rapid movement caused him intense pain, likely because his body hadn’t fully recovered yet.
Mu Xiaofeng was thrown back, crashing into a tree in the Yun Mansion, breaking it. The force of the hit made him vomit blood. Knowing that his current physical condition was not ideal and that fighting the guard head-on would be detrimental, Mu Xiaofeng climbed to his feet, enduring the pain, and ran in the direction of retreat.
The guard, seeing Mu Xiaofeng fleeing, was naturally alarmed. He feared that if Mu Xiaofeng encountered Yun Jie, she would undoubtedly protect him. Just as the guard was about to continue his pursuit, a figure flashed in front of him— it was Feng Xun.
The guard, upon seeing Feng Xun, immediately greeted him politely. Feng Xun, with a cold expression, responded, “I’ll handle capturing Mu Xiaofeng. Leave this to me.”
The guard, hearing that Feng Xun would personally capture Mu Xiaofeng, had no choice but to comply but was still uneasy. He worried that Feng Xun might let Mu Xiaofeng go or take him to see Yun Jie, so he secretly followed Feng Xun to keep an eye on him.
Mu Xiaofeng, injured and moving slowly, was soon overtaken by Feng Xun, who shouted, “Mu Xiaofeng, stop!”
Mu Xiaofeng, hearing the familiar voice, halted and turned around to see Feng Xun. Although surprised, he realized that confronting Feng Xun at this moment, when he was so weakened, would be like throwing an egg at a rock.
Feng Xun was fully on guard and seemed prepared, with his sword tightly gripped, indicating malicious intent. Without saying a word, Feng Xun lunged at Mu Xiaofeng, aiming his sword directly at Mu Xiaofeng’s neck, clearly intending to kill.
With his life at stake, Mu Xiaofeng had no choice but to endure the severe pain and barely evade Feng Xun’s lethal strike. The sword grazed his neck, leaving a cut that oozed a trace of blood.
Mu Xiaofeng frowned, wiped the blood from his neck with his hand, and shouted at Feng Xun, “Feng Xun, have you lost your mind? I saved you before. Not only do you not thank me, but now you want to harm me—why?”
Feng Xun maintained a cold expression, gathering his energy, seemingly preparing for a killing blow. He said harshly, “You shouldn’t have killed members of the Six Great Families. Do you know how many people you’ve harmed? I’m going to use your head to atone for the wrongs.”
With that, Feng Xun darted forward like an arrow, aiming directly for Mu Xiaofeng’s throat. At that critical moment, a shadow appeared beside Mu Xiaofeng and pulled him out of Feng Xun’s attack range.
Mu Xiaofeng, looking at his rescuer, was astonished to see that it was the same guard who had attacked him earlier. Feng Xun, seeing the guard intervene, glared with malice and shouted at him, “You dare to obstruct me, you lowly servant? I’ll kill you along with him!”
The guard remained calm and replied, “I don’t dare to block Young Master Feng. It’s just that if you kill a defenseless, injured person like this, not only will our young lady be displeased, but others will also criticize you.”
Feng Xun’s expression turned serious, realizing that Yun Jie might hold a grudge against him, which he did not want. He glanced coldly at Mu Xiaofeng and, turning away, said, “You have no idea what kind of trouble you’ve stirred up. I thought we could resolve this with the influence of the Feng and Yun families, but it’s not as simple as I imagined.” With that, Feng Xun left.
Seeing Feng Xun depart, Mu Xiaofeng’s body could no longer support him, and he collapsed on the ground. The guard, seeing Mu Xiaofeng’s inability to resist, said, “Please don’t resist anymore. I have no intention of harming you; it’s just that many people want to see you, so please come with me.” The guard did not reveal who wanted to see him.
After resting for a while, Mu Xiaofeng got up and followed the guard. The guard led him through winding paths to an ordinary wooden house, which looked like any other building in the Yun Mansion. The guard opened the door, revealing what appeared to be a weapons room filled with various arms, resembling a collection room. The guard approached a wall where a sword and a shield were hanging. He slowly took down the shield and placed it next to the sword. Soon, the wall began to sink, revealing a hidden door.
The guard gestured for Mu Xiaofeng to enter. Feeling uneasy, Mu Xiaofeng followed him through the hidden door, which led to a narrow staircase descending into darkness.
With curiosity in his heart, Mu Xiaofeng descended the staircase. After what seemed like a long time, a faint light appeared ahead and gradually brightened, leading him to a spacious hall. The hall was not lavishly decorated but was elegant enough to serve as a reception area.
“Welcome, welcome. I didn’t expect such a young visitor to our secret meeting room.” A somewhat familiar voice came from inside the hall. As Mu Xiaofeng entered, he saw an elderly man who was the Lord of Tiger Pass City, Xi Ruohai. Also present were Yun Yuhan, the Yun family patriarch, a masked man who reminded Mu Xiaofeng of the Blood Spirit Clan, and a middle-aged man whom Mu Xiaofeng had not met before but guessed might be from the Feng family.
Seeing Mu Xiaofeng, Xi Ruohai approached him, patting his back and guiding him inside, introducing him, “Child, don’t be afraid. This is Yun Yuhan, the head of the Yun family. The one in the middle is the envoy from the Blood Spirit Clan, and this is Feng Yixing, the head of the Feng family.”
Mu Xiaofeng was surprised to learn that the man he had seen in the treasure vault was Yun Yuhan, Yun Jie’s father.
The envoy of the Blood Spirit Clan stood up and walked to Mu Xiaofeng, gazing at him intently. Mu Xiaofeng felt uneasy, being only about twelve years old.
The Blood Spirit Clan envoy spoke in a calm tone, “Child, don’t be afraid. I’m here to invite you all to the Beast Clan’s royal capital, Biancheng, for a meeting organized by the Six Great Families.”
Junguo is one of the largest and most powerful nations among humans, and its relationship with the Beast Clan is delicately balanced, resembling both ally and rival. Yun Yuhan, realizing the implications, immediately asked, “What do you mean by ‘you all’? Does this mean that not only Mu Xiaofeng but also others need to go to the Beast Clan’s capital?” Clearly, he was concerned about Yun Jie being involved, as traveling to the Beast Clan’s territory was inherently risky.
The envoy replied, “Yes, not only Mu Xiaofeng but everyone present must go, including your daughter.” He then glanced at Xi Ruohai and Feng Yixing, adding, “As well as the two young masters of the Xi and Feng families.” Xi Ruohai remained silent, while Feng Yixing shook his head helplessly.
Yun Yuhan clenched his fists and slammed the table, shouting at Mu Xiaofeng, “It’s all your fault. If anything happens to Yun Jie, the Yun family will face dire consequences in Junguo.”
Yun Yuhan’s dislike and hatred for Mu Xiaofeng were palpable. The Blood Spirit Clan envoy tried to soothe Yun Yuhan, saying, “Rest assured, Lord Yun. The Six Great Families guarantee that everyone will return safely. This is just a meeting, not an execution.”
Hearing this, Yun Yuhan’s anger subsided somewhat. The influence of the Six Great Families was indeed significant. The envoy then looked at Mu Xiaofeng with a hint of menace before slowly leaving the secret meeting room. Yun Yuhan then took Mu Xiaofeng to the hall and, in a low voice, said, “No matter how much I dislike you, please make sure to protect Yun Jie. She is my only child, and if anything happens to her, the Yun family will be in turmoil.”
Although Mu Xiaofeng was somewhat confused, he tightened his fists and nodded in agreement, acknowledging Yun Yuhan’s serious request.
