Chapter 33: The Power of Anger
Xi Mo was injured, and his shield was gone. To save Qiao Zi, he had used his last “flying shield,” temporarily resolving the crisis on her side.
At this moment, Xi Mo pulled his arm out from the earth spikes, then smashed the ice beneath his feet with a roar, before looking back at the two sword-and-shield warriors lying on the ground, ready to turn back and finish them off.
The shadow archer turned pale with fear. She knew that if these two sword-and-shield warriors were defeated, they would have no one left to protect them, making them as helpless as meat on a chopping block. Without hesitation, she fired several arrows at Qiao Zi, aiming only to stall Xi Mo’s actions. She knew that Xi Mo would block the arrows, even though he no longer had a shield.
Hearing the sound of the bowstring behind him, Xi Mo turned and used his body to shield the arrows. Fortunately, the energy transferred to his armor prevented any serious injury.
At this moment, Zhang Wenyu saw an opportunity. He unlocked the energy in his right foot and instantly dashed to the side of the two sword-and-shield warriors, attacking them from all directions with his short knife. Even though the earth element scholar continuously reinforced them with “Earth Armor,” Zhang Wenyu’s attack power had already taken a remarkable leap, cutting the two warriors until they were covered in wounds.
Then, the holy healing priest summoned two golden lights that shone on the sword-and-shield warriors, partially healing their injuries. However, the priest held back some of his energy in case of unforeseen circumstances.
But the assault didn’t stop. Qin Baoyi’s staff glowed red as she conjured two pillars of fire that shot directly at the two sword-and-shield warriors. The poor warriors, already cut up, were now being roasted, and they couldn’t endure it any longer. They collapsed to the ground, unable to rise again.
“Damn it! You bastards! There’s no other way!” The earth element scholar, sensing imminent defeat, no longer cared. With a wave of his staff, he summoned three massive stone golems, each as tall as a tree, their fists three times the size of a human head. Summoning these creatures took a tremendous toll on his body.
“He’s really risking everything, summoning three huge stone golems! Using summoning magic not only consumes energy but also life force,” Qin Baoyi was shocked by the scholar’s madness. “If you use elements and energy, it doesn’t affect your life force, but summoning elementals requires sacrificing life force to the elemental beasts.” This was something Dean Kaga had warned Qin Baoyi about after learning she had used summoning magic, which was why she had never used it again.
The two massive stone golems began their heavy-footed march toward Xi Mo, while the third stayed behind to guard against further attacks. They knew Zhang Wenyu, who could open his energy seal, was a significant threat, and a moment of inattention could lead to their instant defeat.
Zhang Wenyu needed to find a flaw in their defense. He knew that even if he opened his energy seal, he would just waste energy fighting the stone golems. Besides, he wasn’t even sure he could defeat them. But at this moment, Qiao Zi, the Medicine King Priest, showed her advantage. She had almost fully healed Mu Xiaofeng’s injuries, and Mu Xiaofeng was ready to rejoin the battle.
Mu Xiaofeng stood up, lifted his heavy sword, and tossed the two shields on the ground to Xi Mo, thanking him as he did so. Xi Mo caught the shields without responding, instead turning his attention to the approaching stone golems. The golems’ power was immense; with each step, the earth trembled. Mu Xiaofeng stood beside Xi Mo, looking up at the two towering golems, sneaking a glance at Xi Mo’s face, which was still filled with anger, clearly still bothered by Qiao Zi’s earlier words.
Suddenly, Xi Mo leaped forward, just as one of the golems’ enormous fists came crashing down. Xi Mo raised his shield with his right hand, blocking the blow, but his right hand was left bleeding profusely from the impact.
The other golem also swung a punch at Xi Mo, who concentrated his energy into his left hand and blocked the attack. Mu Xiaofeng was startled and raised his sword, ready to assist, but Xi Mo shouted at him, “I don’t need your help! Go deal with them now; I can hold these golems off!” Xi Mo didn’t want Mu Xiaofeng to intervene. Mu Xiaofeng hesitated; he knew that if he helped Xi Mo now, their relationship might become even more awkward later.
Mu Xiaofeng lowered his head, gritting his teeth as he forced out, “Alright, just be careful.” Then, he and Zhang Wenyu charged toward the earth element scholar.
Suddenly, several crisscrossing ice walls appeared in front of Mu Xiaofeng, blocking their path. But they were nothing more than a minor obstacle. Qin Baoyi sent out a powerful pillar of fire that opened a straight path through the ice.
Mu Xiaofeng and Zhang Wenyu quickened their pace. The shadow archer, already exhausted, could barely pull back her bowstring. Mu Xiaofeng easily blocked her arrows with his heavy sword, unable to stop their advance. They soon reached the stone golem.
A thunderous crash erupted from behind, startling Mu Xiaofeng and Zhang Wenyu. They turned to see Xi Mo half-buried in the ground, only his arms visible as they held up the golems’ massive fists. The golems began to withdraw their fists, and Xi Mo’s arms weakened, dropping the shields in front of him.
Zhang Wenyu frowned, quickly climbing onto the golem’s shoulder and slashing its neck with his knife. The defending golem immediately began to struggle, reaching out to grab Zhang Wenyu. But Zhang Wenyu easily dodged the clumsy golem, jumping back to the ground and luring the golem away, signaling to Mu Xiaofeng with a glance.
Mu Xiaofeng understood, sneaking behind the earth element scholar and knocking him to the ground with his sword hilt, pressing the blade to his throat. “You’ve lost. Dismiss the golems. There’s no point in continuing this fight,” he said, not hesitating this time as he grabbed the scholar’s card, a “King.”
The earth element scholar could only smile bitterly and explained, “I’ve used up all my energy. I can’t give them any commands now. In half a day, they’ll disappear on their own. Otherwise, you’ll have to defeat them or kill me.”
Mu Xiaofeng hadn’t expected that even after defeating the scholar, they still couldn’t immediately make the golems vanish. Of course, he wouldn’t kill the scholar.
Meanwhile, the two golems had gathered their strength, preparing to strike Xi Mo again. If they hit him, he would likely be reduced to a bloody pulp. Seeing this, Qiao Zi cried out in fear, “Xi Mo! Run!”
Qiao Zi’s voice seemed to awaken the unconscious Xi Mo. He couldn’t run, so he quickly picked up the shields and braced for the blow. But now, Xi Mo was completely buried in the ground, the shields no longer visible, only the two massive fists above him.
Angrily, Mu Xiaofeng let out a roar and dashed toward Zhang Wenyu. Zhang Wenyu was busy dodging the golem’s relentless attacks. The golem’s fist missed and smashed into the ground.
Zhang Wenyu gave Mu Xiaofeng a push, and Mu Xiaofeng jumped onto the golem’s arm, running up to its shoulder. But the golem ignored him, continuing to attack Zhang Wenyu.
Mu Xiaofeng noticed a narrow crack in the golem’s neck, a mark left by Zhang Wenyu earlier. But the golem’s defense was incredibly strong, not like human flesh; Zhang Wenyu had only left a small crack.
But that crack could be a fatal weakness. Mu Xiaofeng gathered energy into his sword and struck the crack with all his anger, severing the golem’s head. The golem’s body collapsed like a disassembled structure.
Just as Mu Xiaofeng turned to destroy the other two golems, a faint white light emerged from the ground ahead. The fists of the golems began to shake, and everyone froze.
Xi Mo’s shields slowly reappeared, his right hand glowing white. In this life-or-death moment, he had unleashed his potential, unlocking the energy in his right hand. With the seal lifted, Xi Mo’s right hand was brimming with energy, allowing him to hold off the two golems and even push back.
Xi Mo forcefully shoved upward, causing the two golems to lose their balance and fall to the ground. Then, Xi Mo leaped at one golem, concentrating energy into his shield, and smashed its head to pieces. He then kicked off and crushed the head of the other golem. Both collapsed instantly, like a landslide.
Xi Mo stood on the ground, his expression still serious, without a trace of pride. He shouted at Mu Xiaofeng, “I told you I could hold them off. I’ll be the one to unlock the second seal!”
