Chapter 29: The First Man
Mu Xiaofeng and Zhang Wenyu were about to face danger again when Zhang Wenyu suddenly turned to the enemy and softly said, “I’ll hold them off. You go back and heal your wounds. Don’t worry, I’ll keep myself safe.”
Mu Xiaofeng knew he didn’t have the strength to stop Zhang Wenyu, so he nodded in agreement and withdrew to Qiao Zi’s side for treatment.
Facing the five enemies, Zhang Wenyu showed no fear, only calm. Meanwhile, Mu Xiaofeng and the others were growing more nervous. Ximo quietly asked, “Zhang Wenyu won’t lose control again, right? If he does, none of them will stand a chance against him. But Dean Kaga told him to control his emotions.”
Qin Bao Yi tensed up when she heard this, clutching her staff tightly, ready to support Zhang Wenyu at any moment. Qiao Zi, however, shook her head, believing that Zhang Wenyu wouldn’t lose control now. Mu Xiaofeng also sensed that Zhang Wenyu was still calm.
Just then, the Dual Shield Warrior shouted at Zhang Wenyu, “Are you giving up? How dare you put your ‘king’ in front of us? Isn’t this just serving up a meal?”
The Dual Shield Warrior laughed confidently. However, Zhang Wenyu shook his head and replied, “Sorry, the word behind us is only known to Mu Xiaofeng. Our agreement was that we wouldn’t give up on any of our teammates, so I’m not sure the word ‘king’ is behind us.”
Zhang Wenyu’s comment left them all stunned, making them feel tricked. The furious Dual Shield Warriors and Sword Shield Warriors charged at Zhang Wenyu, while the Bow Shadowers took aim. Above, icicles aimed at Zhang Wenyu were dissolved by Qin Bao Yi, and light rain began to fall.
As the Dual Shield Warrior and Sword Shield Warrior closed in, Zhang Wenyu suddenly felt a surge of power in his right foot. He flickered and instantly disappeared from their sight, leaving them grasping at air.
Zhang Wenyu’s speed had increased dramatically, far beyond what it had been before. The Bow Shadowers could only track the remnants of his movements, unable to aim at him. Zhang Wenyu’s high-speed movement left them helpless, unable to attack him effectively while he took them by surprise.
Ximo, worried that Zhang Wenyu might have lost control, noticed that Zhang Wenyu’s right foot was glowing with a dazzling white light—it was the Yuan Solution being activated. Ximo never expected Zhang Wenyu to be the first to open his Yuan Solution among them.
The Archery Shadowbringer realized this and urgently shouted to his teammates, “He’s opened Yuan Solution! Be careful, I can’t keep up with his speed!”
They were shocked to hear that Zhang Wenyu had unlocked his Yuan Solution. They hadn’t expected to push him this far. With the Yuan Solution unlocked, Zhang Wenyu’s abilities increased drastically. Despite being younger than Mu Xiaofeng, he had opened his Yuan Solution so early.
Zhang Wenyu weaved between them, occasionally leaving a wound on their bodies, while they were unable to fight back. The Dual Shield Warriors, enraged, gathered a large amount of Yuan Qi on their shields and unleashed a powerful Shield Roar.
Although Zhang Wenyu was still close, the strength of the Shield Roar affected him. He lost control of his body, his speed dropping to that of an ordinary person. But the Shield Roar also damaged the Dual Shield Warrior’s equipment, leaving him numb and unable to move.
The Bow Shadower took this chance to shoot an arrow that hit Zhang Wenyu’s calf. Meanwhile, Qin Bao Yi’s and the Water Elemental erudite’s spells clashed, spraying water droplets in all directions. The Sword Shield Warrior rushed at Zhang Wenyu again, but Ximo, now far from Zhang Wenyu, wasn’t sure he could hit the Sword Shield Warrior with his flying shield.
The Sword Shield Warrior raised his sword to strike Zhang Wenyu. Zhang Wenyu forced himself to recover enough to dodge the blow, but doing so placed a heavy burden on his body.
“You’ve used up all your tricks. Now it’s my turn!” Zhang Wenyu’s eyes glinted with a fierce light as the Yuan Solution in his right foot sent Yuan Qi surging through his body.
Zhang Wenyu moved like a ghost, appearing and disappearing around the Dual Shield Warrior, leaving cuts on his body with each pass. Soon, Zhang Wenyu appeared in front of the Dual Shield Warrior, panting, with blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. The effort to overcome the Shield Roar had taken a toll on him.
But the Dual Shield Warrior was defeated, collapsing to the ground, unable to fight anymore. Zhang Wenyu slowly approached, reaching for the card on the broken armor. Just as he was about to reveal it, a figure appeared in front of him. Zhang Wenyu looked up to see a Shadowbringer dressed in green.
From the slender taijutsu and gloves, and the concealed weapons at his waist, Zhang Wenyu recognized him as a Deadly Shadowsman, a rare and dangerous opponent. Only those with nothing to lose became Deadly Shadowsmen.
Zhang Wenyu didn’t know this person, but he understood that he was here to claim the spoils. The Shadowsman kicked Zhang Wenyu away, picked up the card, and laughed. “Haha, I can’t believe it was this easy to get a ‘king.’ Watching from the sidelines really paid off.”
What no one had expected was that their battle had been watched all along. Hidden in the woods, the Shadowsman had observed everything while they were focused on the fight. But when he unveiled the card, disappointment washed over his face—it bore the word “Shi.”
It turned out that even Mu Xiaofeng and his team had been fooled. Their strategy had been to protect the Dual Shield Warrior, making the enemy think he held the ‘king’ card, which drew fire and depleted the enemy’s strength.
They had underestimated Mu Xiaofeng’s strength, and the enemy’s direct assault wasn’t enough to overcome them. The real “king” was likely the Water Elemental erudite, who had been well-protected and hadn’t taken a single hit.
Mu Xiaofeng realized this but couldn’t act while still injured. The other group hadn’t appeared yet, making him and his team hesitant to move.
The Double Blade Shadowman was displeased that the card was a “Shi.” His mouth twitched in frustration as he walked over to the exhausted priest. Smiling cruelly, he punched the priest in the abdomen, knocking him to the ground.
But he didn’t reveal the priest’s card. He knew the “king” was with the Water Elemental erudite and was simply venting his anger.
“What are you doing?” the Water Elemental erudite shouted. The Shadowsman glanced at him with disdain. “This guy’s a burden. Let me finish him off.”
The Deadly Shadowsman’s eyes flashed with malice as he stared at the Water Elemental erudite, threatening, “Don’t think I won’t kill you. I’m just waiting for my companions to join us in wiping out these guys.”
The Water Elemental erudite slowly walked up to Mu Xiaofeng, removed his outer coat, and revealed the card on his back—it was the “king.”
Handing the card to Mu Xiaofeng, he said, “You are worthy opponents. We admit defeat. It was an honor to fight you.” The Archery Shadowman and Sword Shield Warrior remained silent, seeming to agree.
But the Deadly Shadowsman was livid. He charged at the Water Elemental erudite, but both the erudite’s teammates and Mu Xiaofeng stepped in to protect him.
Realizing he was outmatched, the Shadowsman stabbed his own arm, licked the blood off his dagger, and stared at Mu Xiaofeng. “Remember this, I’ll be back for you. My name is Jiexin.”
