Chapter 19 – Yun Jie’s Heart
Ever since Mu Xiaofeng obtained the Tiger’s Mouth Heavy Sword from the Weapon Forest’s treasure trove, his group’s mission had been completed. All nine members now had a weapon they were satisfied with—some through their own efforts, others gifted by their families. With this, their mission in the Weapon Forest was over, and they prepared to leave.
Although Mu Xiaofeng was reluctant to part with Qiao Zi, he knew he had to say goodbye. He watched her as she walked away, and she occasionally glanced back at him. But eventually, Qiao Zi vanished from his sight. Mu Xiaofeng let out a long sigh, unaware that someone else was watching him from behind, feeling disappointed that Mu Xiaofeng hadn’t noticed them.
Zhang Wenyu noticed Mu Xiaofeng’s sigh and gave him a playful punch in the chest. “Do you want to go after her?” she teased. Mu Xiaofeng was surprised but before he could respond, Qin Bao Yi chimed in, “Yeah, Mu Xiaofeng, if you don’t act now, you might miss your chance!”
Their encouragement stirred something in Mu Xiaofeng, but he quickly brushed it off and joked with them instead. “When did you two start working so well together?” he asked, flashing a mischievous grin. Zhang Wenyu quickly looked away, while Qin Bao Yi blushed deeply and lowered her head, not saying a word.
As the three of them continued chatting, someone called out to Mu Xiaofeng from behind. He recognized the voice immediately—it was Dean Kaga. Mu Xiaofeng turned around to see Dean Kaga smiling at him. “Mu Xiaofeng! Come to my office; I need to talk to you.”
Reluctantly, Mu Xiaofeng said goodbye to Zhang Wenyu and Qin Bao Yi and followed Dean Kaga to his office.
Once inside, Dean Kaga pointed to the heavy sword in Mu Xiaofeng’s hand. “Mu Xiaofeng, you got this sword from the treasure trove, didn’t you?” His tone was serious, and Mu Xiaofeng felt uneasy. He nodded, not daring to lie.
Dean Kaga stepped closer and continued, “You must have seen the White Tiger Sword in there, right?” Mu Xiaofeng was taken aback by the question and could only nod dumbly.
Dean Kaga sighed deeply before explaining, “There are four divine weapons left by the God of Creation on the four continents: the Green Dragon Short Sword from the Green Continent, the Vermilion Bird’s Book from the Zhu Continent, the Xuanwu Pill Pouch from the Xuan Continent, and the White Tiger Sword from the White Continent. Only a few royal families and the great families that guard these divine artifacts know about the White Tiger Sword’s location. You must not reveal this secret.”
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Mu Xiaofeng promised Dean Kaga that he would never disclose the secret of the White Tiger Sword, even if it cost him his life. Satisfied, Dean Kaga nodded and let him go.
As Mu Xiaofeng left the office, he replayed everything Dean Kaga had said. Only a few people knew about the White Tiger Sword’s location. Suddenly, he remembered that Yunjie had mentioned knowing what was inside the treasury when they first met in the Weapon Forest. Who exactly was Yunjie?
Trying to clear his mind, Mu Xiaofeng shook his head and focused on his thoughts. Just then, his teacher, Qing Yuan, approached him. “Mu Xiaofeng, I see you made it out of the Weapon Forest,” Qing Yuan said, noticing the heavy sword in his hand. “That’s a fine weapon you’ve got there.”
“Teacher Qing Yuan, what exactly does Yunjie’s family do?” Mu Xiaofeng asked abruptly, catching Qing Yuan off guard.
Qing Yuan’s expression froze for a moment before he forced a smile and changed the subject. “Mu Xiaofeng, I knew you were close to Qiao Zi, but I didn’t realize you had ties with the Yun family’s eldest daughter too. You’re quite the charmer.”
“Miss Yun?” Mu Xiaofeng was intrigued by Qing Yuan’s words. With a sly smile, he replied, “I’m just curious, nothing more. I have to go now, Teacher. Take care.”
With that, Mu Xiaofeng hurried off, determined to find Yunjie and get some answers.
He arrived at Yunjie’s dormitory and knocked gently on the door. “Who is it?” Yunjie’s voice came from inside. She opened the door, and upon seeing Mu Xiaofeng, her face lit up with surprise and happiness. “It’s rare for you to visit. Are you here to see me?”
Mu Xiaofeng nodded, his gaze fixed on Yunjie. Feeling shy under his intense stare, Yunjie lowered her head and asked softly, “What do you need?”
With a serious expression, Mu Xiaofeng asked, “Yunjie, who are you really?” Sensing that Mu Xiaofeng had discovered something, Yunjie tried to deflect. “I’m just Yunjie. I don’t know what you’re asking.”
But Mu Xiaofeng wasn’t satisfied with her vague response. “You’re the Yun family’s eldest daughter, and you said you know what’s inside the treasury. What does your family do?”
Realizing Mu Xiaofeng had figured out something, Yunjie suddenly found his question amusing. What did it matter who she was? Did it really affect Mu Xiaofeng in any way? She countered with a question that left him speechless, “Mu Xiaofeng, why do you care about who I am? Do you even know who Qiao Zi is?”
Mu Xiaofeng was stunned by her question. He realized he knew all about Qiao Zi’s likes, personality, and habits, but nothing about her family. Maybe it was just his habit; he had never asked Zhang Wenyu about her life either.
Mu Xiaofeng lowered his head, silent. Yunjie continued, “Mu Xiaofeng, I know you like Qiao Zi, but you don’t even know anything about her family. Who are you to question mine? Who am I to explain myself to you?”
Hearing this, Mu Xiaofeng weakly responded, “Then do you know me? Do you know who I am?”
Without missing a beat, Yunjie answered, “Mu Xiaofeng, the eldest grandson of the Mu family of Shuangsheng Town. Your grandfather, Mu Longtian, is the mayor of Shuangsheng Town. Your father, Mu Taigu, is the eldest son of the family. Your mother, Qu Lingsa, is the daughter of the lord of Luo Hai City. Your family is a lineage of priests and wine-makers, with most members following that path…”
By now, Yunjie was on the verge of tears. Mu Xiaofeng looked up and saw her face streaked with tears. “I’m sorry,” he said quietly.
He hadn’t realized how much Yunjie knew about him. A mix of emotions washed over him, and he found himself unable to ask Yunjie anything more.
Yunjie turned away, wiping her tears as she spoke with her back to him, “Don’t misunderstand. I don’t have feelings for you. I just think you’re strong, and a good weapon suits someone like you. I only wanted to help you get better.” With that, she walked into her room, closing the door behind her without looking back.
Mu Xiaofeng stood frozen at Yunjie’s door, overwhelmed by everything that had just happened. He left in a daze, dragging his heavy sword along the road, his mind blank.
“Mu Xiaofeng!” Qiao Zi’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. He turned around to see her approaching. Forcing a smile, he greeted her.
Noticing his pale face, Qiao Zi asked with concern, “Mu Xiaofeng, are you okay? You don’t look well.”
Her worry touched him, but suddenly, Yunjie’s words echoed in his mind: “You like Qiao Zi, but you don’t even know her family.” Doubts about Qiao Zi swirled in his head. He softly called out her name, “Qiao Zi…”
“Yes?” she replied, looking at him curiously. But Mu Xiaofeng suddenly felt too tired to care. He waved it off and said, “It’s nothing. I’ll be going now. See you later.”
Qiao Zi watched in confusion as Mu Xiaofeng walked away.
