Chapter 14 – Matters of the Heart, Awakening, Old Man
Just as Mu Xiaofeng lay gravely injured and unconscious, Yun Jie and her two companions suddenly appeared in front of Zhang Wenyu and Qin Bao Yi. Their sudden presence made Zhang Wenyu and Qin Bao Yi uneasy. They had just depleted a significant amount of their vital energy, and if Yun Jie intended to take advantage of their weakened state, they wouldn’t stand a chance.
Understanding that her sudden appearance would make Zhang Wenyu and Qin Bao Yi wary, Yun Jie signaled to her companions, who nodded and left the scene, leaving Yun Jie alone. Seeing that only Yun Jie remained, Zhang Wenyu felt a bit relieved but still questioned her coldly, “Yun Jie, it’s been a long time. What brings you here?” Zhang Wenyu stared at Yun Jie with a piercing gaze, and Qin Bao Yi gripped her staff, ready to defend herself.
Seeing how hostile they were, Yun Jie shook her head helplessly and sighed, “You don’t need to be so defensive. We crossed paths six years ago, but we’ve never been enemies. I’m just here to help.”
Yun Jie gently placed her shield on the ground, drove her sword into the earth, took out a small bottle of potion from her waist pocket, and quickly walked toward Mu Xiaofeng. Zhang Wenyu, still uneasy, stepped in front of Yun Jie to block her path.
Yun Jie gently pushed Zhang Wenyu aside and knelt beside Mu Xiaofeng. Looking back at Zhang Wenyu, she explained, “Don’t worry, I’m not here to harm him. He’s gravely injured and was just poisoned by the giant snake. He needs medicine immediately.”
Hearing this, Zhang Wenyu paused and nodded slightly but still warned Yun Jie coldly, “If anything happens to Mu Xiaofeng, you’ll pay with your life.” He gripped his snake-tooth short sword tightly.
Yun Jie said nothing further, letting Mu Xiaofeng slowly take the potion. “If you keep interfering like this, you’ll only have yourself to blame if something happens to him,” she said. With a cold snort, Zhang Wenyu turned away, refusing to look at her.
Qin Bao Yi, who had already lowered her guard, believed that Yun Jie genuinely wanted to save Mu Xiaofeng. She walked over, knelt beside Yun Jie, and asked, “Sister Yun Jie, you’ve been watching us from the beginning. If you wanted to save Mu Xiaofeng, why didn’t you show up earlier?”
Yun Jie turned to Qin Bao Yi with a sweet smile and replied, “Do you realize how much noise you all made? If I’d shown up earlier, we would have all been depleted, and if someone else decided to attack us, we’d be defenseless. I stayed hidden so I could protect you all after the battle.”
Qin Bao Yi sighed in relief, realizing that Yun Jie truly cared for Mu Xiaofeng.
“Hehehe… Mu Xiaofeng, you’re so weak, it’s delightful. It’s time for me to take over your body,” a voice echoed inside Mu Xiaofeng’s head. He opened his eyes to find himself surrounded by darkness. He remembered Marshal Feng Mu’s warning—he wasn’t strong enough. Was this the end?
A purple figure approached him, but Mu Xiaofeng couldn’t move. The figure grabbed his shoulder and laughed, “Mu Xiaofeng, hand over your body. I’ve waited long enough.” The figure then forced its way into Mu Xiaofeng’s chest, causing him intense pain.
“Don’t be afraid, Mu Xiaofeng, I’m here,” a familiar voice said. Suddenly, his arms glowed with a golden light, and the image of the God of Creation appeared behind him. The golden figure easily repelled the purple intruder, who screamed in agony and fled. The golden figure then merged back into Mu Xiaofeng’s arms and vanished.
“Ahhh!” Mu Xiaofeng suddenly sat up, finding himself no longer in darkness but in the verdant Weapon Forest. He had awakened. Recalling what had just happened, he wondered if Marshal Feng Mu had saved him by channeling the power of the God of Creation.
As he pondered, a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts—Yun Jie. “Mu Xiaofeng, you’re awake? You’ve been out for a while,” she said, walking up to him and handing him food and water. Mu Xiaofeng was surprised to see Yun Jie taking care of him but accepted the food and water, smiling in thanks.
Hearing Mu Xiaofeng’s voice, Zhang Wenyu and Qin Bao Yi rushed over to check on him. Seeing that he had woken up, Zhang Wenyu immediately apologized to Yun Jie, feeling guilty for her earlier hostility. Qin Bao Yi, still like a child, showed off her newly acquired staff, saying, “Mu Xiaofeng, you’ve been asleep for two days! You missed me getting my new staff, all thanks to Sister Yun Jie and her companions.”
Seeing Qin Bao Yi’s excitement, Mu Xiaofeng smiled and tried to stand up. The three companions hurried to support him, fearing he might fall. Just then, Yun Jie’s two companions returned, and she introduced them to Mu Xiaofeng. They were the ones who had fought him six years ago.
Li Yi was a tall, burly man with thick eyebrows, round eyes, and short, flat hair—a master of earth element magic. The other, a small, thin boy with sharp eyes, carried a quiver and bow. He was Eyrie Shadow, a skilled archer.
The six of them moved forward through the Weapon Forest, talking and laughing. With their combined strength, they faced less danger, and no one dared to attack them. Among them, Zhang Wenyu had acquired his Snake Tooth Short Sword, while Qin Bao Yi, Li Yi, and Eyrie Shadow had all obtained their desired weapons while Mu Xiaofeng was unconscious. Yun Jie, confident in her sword and shield, had no intention of seeking a new weapon. Only Mu Xiaofeng had yet to find the weapon he needed.
After walking for some time, Yun Jie suddenly asked, “Mu Xiaofeng, you’ve been searching here for so long. Haven’t you felt anything calling to you?”
Mu Xiaofeng closed his eyes and tried to sense his surroundings but felt nothing. He shook his head and replied, “No, it seems like there’s nothing here for me. Maybe what I need is in the treasury at the center of the forest.”
Hearing this, Yun Jie couldn’t help but feel secretly pleased. If the weapon meant for Mu Xiaofeng was in the treasury, it would be perfect for her plans.
Noticing Yun Jie’s smile, Mu Xiaofeng, thinking she was mocking him, playfully patted her head and said, “Heh, it’s easy for you with your family’s resources. I have to rely on myself.”
Before Yun Jie could respond, Zhang Wenyu and Eyrie Shadow shouted, “Look, there’s something ahead!” The group hurried forward and found people lying injured on the ground—evidence of a recent battle. They carefully checked the wounded and were relieved to find no one had died, though many were severely injured.
Seeing the injured, Mu Xiaofeng urgently asked Yun Jie, “How much medicine do you have left? Can you save them?” Sweat beaded on his forehead. Even though these people might be his rivals, they were still his schoolmates, and he wanted to save them.
Yun Jie pulled out all the potions she had, but there were only a few bottles—far from enough for the dozens of injured people. She shook her head, indicating there was little she could do.
At that moment, someone appeared whom Mu Xiaofeng couldn’t forget: Ximo, his rival for the past six years. Shield in hand, armor dusty and worn, Ximo walked unsteadily toward Mu Xiaofeng. In a weak voice, he reassured him, “Don’t worry. The whole Weapon Forest is under the school’s surveillance. These people will be rescued soon; we just need to wait.”
Not seeing Qiao Zi with him, Mu Xiaofeng anxiously asked, “Where’s Qiao Zi? Is she okay?” Ximo waved a hand, explaining that Qiao Zi had gone to gather medicine for her injuries but was not seriously hurt. Mu Xiaofeng sighed in relief.
Yun Jie, watching Mu Xiaofeng’s concern for Qiao Zi, felt a pang of sadness. “So, no matter how well I treat you, I can’t compare to her?” she thought.
Ximo noticed her sad expression, but Yun Jie quickly composed herself and changed the subject, asking Ximo, “What exactly happened here?”
Ximo smiled bitterly and pointed toward the woods behind him. Mu Xiaofeng and Yun Jie followed his gaze and saw a black spire peeking through the trees. They had reached the center of the forest—the location of the Weapon Forest’s Treasure Trove.
