Chapter 10: The Secret
Mu Xiaofeng rested on the bed for a bit longer before heading to Dean Kaga’s office building with Ms. Hui. Dean Kaga’s office was a private building, and while it looked quite old—with brick-red walls that were peeling and creepers covering one side—it still had a certain charm.
Upon reaching the dean’s office, Mu Xiaofeng first noticed Zhang Wenyu lying on a cot. Zhang Wenyu’s face had returned to its normal color, his eyes no longer fierce but calm.
Mu Xiaofeng greeted Zhang Wenyu and asked if he was okay. Zhang Wenyu simply nodded in response.
At that moment, Dean Kaga, an elderly man with a white beard, emerged from the inner office. He saw Mu Xiaofeng and Ms. Hui and frowned slightly before asking Hui, “Teacher Hui, why have you brought this child here?”
Hui glanced at Mu Xiaofeng and Zhang Wenyu, recalled the dangerous curse on Mu Xiaofeng, and said to Kaga, “Master Dean, this child is Mu Xiaofeng. He appears to be afflicted by a severe ancient curse from the Demon Race, so I brought him to you.”
Dean Kaga’s frown deepened as he examined Mu Xiaofeng more closely, lifting his shirt to inspect the bulging foreign object on his chest. After a moment of observation, Kaga hesitated and told Hui, “This does look like a curse from the Demon Race’s invasion of the Beast Race many years ago. Given the Beast Race’s strong vitality, they were chosen as carriers for these curses. It’s an old curse, so I’m not entirely sure.”
While Kaga was still pondering, a familiar voice came from the inner room. “Dean Kaga, don’t forget that there’s someone here who is quite familiar with this ancient curse.” A tall white orc then walked out from the inner room. Kaga’s frown eased a bit as he saw the orc.
Mu Xiaofeng recognized this orc as Prince Chigarh, who had fought Qingyuan at the city gates. It was surprising to see Prince Chigarh here.
Dean Kaga introduced the orc, “This is Orc Prince Chig.” Everyone greeted Prince Chig respectfully.
Prince Chig approached Mu Xiaofeng and Zhang Wenyu with a smile, saying, “I watched your match yesterday. It was very impressive.” He also glanced briefly at Zhang Wenyu.
Dean Kaga then lifted Mu Xiaofeng’s shirt again, pointing out the bulging foreign object on his chest. Prince Chig moved closer to examine it, touched it gently, and infused it with Yuan Qi.
Mu Xiaofeng felt a cold sensation spreading from his chest, making him shiver uncontrollably.
Prince Chig’s expression grew serious as he took out a jade ring with intricate carvings and placed it on the foreign object. The jade ring emitted a faint warmth, making Mu Xiaofeng feel more comfortable.
Prince Chig turned to Dean Kaga and said, “Dean Kaga, our Beast Race will never forget this terrible curse. All Beast Race members must know how to break it. This jade ring is a magical item that most Beastmen carry. It was made by the Beastman Sacrificial Brewer and has a special spell to suppress the curse. Unfortunately, I am only knowledgeable and cannot heal the child, but I can suppress the curse temporarily. If this child has a chance to go to the Beast Kingdom for treatment, this jade ring will serve as a pass with my endorsement.”
Dean Kaga bowed in gratitude. “Thank you, Prince Chig, for saving this child’s life.” Mu Xiaofeng also bowed and thanked Prince Chig. The prince waved dismissively, smiled, and then glanced at Zhang Wenyu before walking back into the inner room.
Seeing that Mu Xiaofeng was temporarily stabilized and Zhang Wenyu appeared to be fine, Dean Kaga instructed Ms. Hui to take Mu Xiaofeng and Zhang Wenyu back.
As they left Dean Kaga’s office building, Mu Xiaofeng excitedly said to Ms. Hui, “Ms. Hui, Dean Kaga’s place is amazing—such a big building with a great environment and lots of creepers!” He pointed to where he remembered the creepers.
But when Mu Xiaofeng looked again, the walls were bare with nothing on them.
Confused, Mu Xiaofeng tried to figure out what was going on. Ms. Hui patted his head and said, “There are no creepers here, Mu Xiaofeng.” With a smile, she left.
Still puzzled, Mu Xiaofeng ran back to the wall, certain his memory was correct. When he reached the wall, he heard voices from the other side and hid to listen.
On the other side were three tall orcs: two green and one white—Prince Chigarh among them.
One of the green orcs reported to Prince Chig, “Your Highness, we’ve been in disguise for a while and surveyed the entire academy. An expert infiltrated the hospital yesterday, but luckily the child wasn’t there, so there shouldn’t be any problems.”
Prince Chig frowned slightly, scratched his head, and said, “We could have left after paying our respects to the new Divine Grand Marshal. However, the condition of that child caught my attention. He might be the offspring of that person. I won’t let him return to the Beast Race Kingdom. As soon as he enters our territory, I’ll kill him no matter what.”
As Prince Chig clenched his fists, his sharp teeth glinted menacingly.
Mu Xiaofeng was terrified and frozen in place, unsure of what to do. The footsteps of the orcs grew closer, and he feared they might discover him.
Just as Prince Chig was about to leave, a purple light shone above Mu Xiaofeng’s head. Dean Kaga had extended a staff from a window, with a note hanging from it saying, “Hold your breath.”
Prince Chig and his companions then left without noticing Mu Xiaofeng, who was hiding.
Once the orcs were gone, Mu Xiaofeng sighed with relief. Dean Kaga came over and said softly, “Child, you were scared, weren’t you? I used a concealment technique to keep you safe. Luckily, they left quickly, or the consequences could have been dire.” Kaga sighed, his brow still furrowed.
Kaga waved for Mu Xiaofeng to follow him. Though still shaken, Mu Xiaofeng followed Kaga up the stairs.
As they walked, Dean Kaga explained that Prince Chig’s interest was piqued by Zhang Wenyu’s recent mutation. Kaga believed Zhang Wenyu might have some orc blood, which could be a threat to Prince Chig, so Kaga promised to protect Zhang Wenyu and keep him away from the Beastmen’s territory.
Mu Xiaofeng was curious about Zhang Wenyu’s background, but he was unaware that Dean Kaga had more to reveal about himself.
Finally, they reached the rooftop door on the top floor. When Dean Kaga opened the door, a warm, gentle light greeted them.
Mu Xiaofeng squinted until his eyes adjusted and saw a tall man in golden armor with long white hair and a handsome face.
The man smiled slightly and greeted Mu Xiaofeng with a soft, noble voice, “Mu Xiaofeng, I’ve been waiting for you.”
Stunned by the man’s divine presence, Mu Xiaofeng could only nod in response.
Dean Kaga, amused by Mu Xiaofeng’s awe, stroked his head and said warmly, “Mu Xiaofeng, don’t be afraid. This is the new Grand Marshal of the Divine Race—Marshal Feng Mu.”
Why was the newly appointed Grand Marshal of the Divine Race waiting for Mu Xiaofeng? What secrets did Mu Xiaofeng hold? All would soon be revealed by Marshal Feng Mu.
