Chapter 254
"I hope you don’t mind, but I may not be as comfortable as Hyectra." It also didn’t know how things would turn out, maybe they would only have a chance to see Hyectra in the Endless Water Realm, perhaps Hyectra had to go fight as well. "But I will do my best, and so will she."
Xerath tried to hold onto the innocent unicorn, "Sylas… Don’t do something meaningless."
Sylas was writing and calculating on Xerath’s desk. When Xerath caught her, she reached out a hand for her to hold. Her own desk had been burned, and there were books and notebooks scattered on the floor. She might have finished her calculations because she slapped the pen on the desk and looked at Xerath. Suddenly, Xerath grabbed her by the arm and said, "Sylas, don’t take risks!"
Sylas unexpectedly grabbed her wrist and pulled her hand down. Determination sparkled in her green eyes, and she stared at Xerath firmly, refusing to back down. "Before you stop me, please find a better way!"
She ran out, with no door to block her, and Xerath could clearly hear her footsteps. The sound of her footsteps eventually vanished, followed by a thud.
She wouldn’t have jumped directly from the stairs, would she?
She was counting sand, but Sylas came back very quickly, holding a box that contained her collection of rubies. The rubies were neatly organized inside the box, sorted by category.
Sylas was writing and drawing on her calculation paper, while Xerath leaned against Leunen, staring at Sylas’s profile. But when she saw the coordinates Sylas wrote down, she suddenly said, "Are you crazy? You’ve set the coordinates in the Hall of Audience? That’s impossible!"
Sylas smiled at her and unbuttoned her collar, pointing to the tangled mark on her skin. She said, "You know this is also a kind of ‘impossible.’ I can break through storms, so why can’t I break through space?"
"This is a one-way door, you might get lost in the void forever."
Sylas wanted to pull Xerath’s hand away again, but she didn’t expect her to hold on so tightly. In the end, Xerath and Leunen were both carried along as they ran together. Sylas said as they ran, "It’s better than watching you die."
She walked up to the Portal, this obedient stone was just a stone. Sylas’s command reluctantly made it "come alive." The runes changed under the strong command of the Elemental King’s sole heir. In fact, these runes that ordinary people couldn’t understand simply recorded coordinates (the most important thing), pressure difference, and a series of magical "circuits." Sylas embedded the ruby one by one, then turned to hold Xerath horizontally, and said to her, tilting her head, "I didn’t expect something I learned for credits to come in handy. I don’t have time to check, the design time was too short, and I’ve never made such a powerful Portal before."
She used three amplification devices, but it’s possible that even the teleportation runestone itself couldn’t withstand such a large pressure difference. Or perhaps her magic wasn’t enough to pierce this barrier, and they would be forever lost in the void.
Xerath smiled lightly, as if she had heard something naive and interesting, "I advise you not to take risks. I value your life."
Sylas hugged her again, holding the teleportation runestone with both hands. A golden glow began to appear, and the immense magical pressure caused pure magic to dissipate directly into the air. Resting her forehead against Xerath’s, Sylas whispered, "I would rather get lost in the void with you."
She closed her eyes, and the power that pierced through time and space opened a crack in front of her. Without a positioning device on the other side, it was almost impossible to traverse space. But she had no retreat now. The fierce wind of the void blew against her face, and a powerful repulsion came from the runestone in her palm. The Portal showed distorted images, rapidly changing. She put all the magic she could muster onto the teleportation runestone, but there was nowhere for the vast amount of magic to go, and she was turning completely golden.
Xerath reached out her hand and covered it with her palm.
The dark red light finally shot out from the rune stone, activating the runes one by one, burning a never before seen hall in the middle of the Portal. Sylas pushed the stone into it with all her strength, the Portal started rotating, and finally swallowed them both into the void.
A piece of stone fell to the ground, hitting the Δ symbol that represented the origin of the coordinates. The stone bounced a few times on the ground, appearing particularly abrupt in the quiet and empty hall. The Paladins looked around suspiciously.
Someone noticed the stone, which looked equally out of place on the creamy white marble floor.
A bearded Paladin bravely approached the stone, but it no longer moved. The runes only faintly shimmered, until suddenly, a blue light appeared in front of him and a large shadow dropped from mid-air. The girl’s cry shattered the peacefulness that had lasted for many years in the Hall of Audience.
"Save her! I need a priest! Please, save her!"
Intruding in the Hall of Audience, the Paladins in the room all raised their weapons and surrounded her.
The girl cried so much that it seemed like she would dissolve. She held a Sunstone in her hand, and seeing that no one nearby was willing to help, she began tremblingly reciting the incantation of the Healing Spell. Her magical power was very strong, and golden light radiated from her, creating a mighty magical pressure. However, the effect produced was only enough to give a faint flash on the person in her embrace. Her magical power seemed to be greatly depleted, with sweat on her forehead and trembling lips turning pale. She could hardly even continue the incantation, but she continued to recite the healing spell, trying to save her companion in her arms.
Perhaps it was because the girl was so beautiful and harmless-looking, the leader of the bearded knights pursed his lips, dropped what he was holding, and knelt down to look into the girl’s embrace. This scene still startled him.
"Oh compassionate father…" In the arms of the young girl lay another girl, her face pale and seemingly unconscious. The coldness of death spread from her body like flowing mercury, causing the Hall of Audience to react strongly. The sacred light flickered uncertainly, and all those present who were connected to the Holy Light could feel the chilling and eerie aura.
The skin revealed at her neckline had turned almost black, and tendrils of darkness were slowly spreading towards her neck. Thorn-like patterns of black covered her hands as well. The bearded knight lowered his head in prayer, and a soft golden glow expanded. Under his prayer, the glow descended upon her.
The deathly aura retreated slightly, and the Paladin called out to his companions, "Go and fetch Priest Raphael! Everyone come, let’s ‘purify’ her!"
Weapons were discarded on the ground, and some knights took out Sunstone necklaces hanging from their chests. The Paladin was not solely dedicated to healing, but his affinity to the Holy Light was much stronger than Sylas’s. Within beams of bright Holy Light, Xerath appeared to improve, but Sylas had lost consciousness. Overwhelmed by the depletion of her magical power, she fainted on the milky floor of the Hall of Audience.
Compared to the turbulence in the Hall of Audience, the Elemental Gate was unusually calm, making it not much different from an ordinary desert. If it weren’t for Virgil being part of the group, the desert could have been even more tranquil. Diego pushed up his peculiar bone-shaped glasses and asked Virgil, "How much longer until we arrive?"
Virgil responded, "If you’re in such a hurry, should we have Pegasus take flight?"
"Um, tell me how long they can run first."
"They can probably keep going for another day without rest."
"We can’t wait a whole day." He looked troubled and lay down on Pegasus’ back, commanding, "Lie down! Charge!"
Virgil laughed slyly, but Dvořák’s wings flapped in front of him, causing the small feathers to tickle his nose. When the gray-white tower appeared in his line of sight, he had been lying on the horse’s back for four hours, bored (of course, he had rested during that time). By the time he reached the base of the tower, it was already evening.
"Oh my… what is all this…" A male succubus opened his wings and flew over, circling around the wind barrier before returning and reporting, "It’s unbearable to look at, even demons can’t bear it."
They got off their horses and walked, while Virgil exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, who would do such a thing to this adorable little garden? It had been growing for so long! Sylas will be furious! Poor little dogs…" Virgil stepped into the teleportation array and shot three arrows at once, hitting three of the stones in the group of stone monuments, and they were immediately transported inside the wind barrier.
The inspectors in wizard robes walked around the base of the tower and, naturally, saw the drained wolf carcass and scattered dragon bones.
Today, the entire desert was unusually calm, the air heavy as if in a meeting room rather than a ferocious wilderness. They reached the entrance at the base of the tower, where outside the porch, there were two layers of drained wolf skins piled up. The entrance was completely blocked, and it was not difficult to imagine how brutal the battle here had been. A female wizard approached, wanting to cast a spell to open the door, but unfortunately, in the Elemental Gate, these elements either completely refused to cooperate or suddenly activated to a very high level.
Just like it was now, the giant stone at the entrance remained unmoved, but the wind blade started spinning on its own, scaring her away.
"Us…?" Diego looked at Virgil, "I feel like I see the purpose in bringing you here."
Virgil sighed, called Dvořák over, and said to him, "Old friend, I have a very, very, very fun task to give you." He spoke while tying ropes around the horse’s back, then urged Dvořák to take off. Pegasus reluctantly flapped its wings and took a couple of steps to circle low around the tower, then suddenly flapped twice and landed on the wind barrier. It stood as if on solid ground and flew higher after a few more steps, eventually reaching the high terrace.
The rope was thrown down, and Virgil grabbed onto it and climbed up the tower. The tower was thick at the top and bottom, but slim in the middle, overall having a slender figure, thanks to the terrace located at about one-third of the way up. The hanging rope allowed Virgil to step on the wall for support, saving him a lot of effort.
But in the middle, there was a part that was completely empty. The hunter had to use his strength to lift himself up. When he climbed to the top, Dvořák was whispering something to Titus. Virgil knocked on the door and tried to smile, saying, "Good dog, open the door!"
