Chapter 251
She turned and quietly asked Xerath if she was cold, then she realized that Xerath couldn’t speak understandable words and gave her a "gentle breeze." Xerath chuckled softly and said something strange, but Sylas thought her teacher must be scolding her for being distracted.
Yes, a stone flew rapidly towards her, almost reaching her face before she reacted and stopped it. Some Frostchild wrapped in darkness were charging around like large blocks of ice, except some of them were riding dogs.
Speaking of dogs, Titus and the large block of ice were freed from a bigger block of ice, but they were knocked into the air again. Thanks to Leunen catching them with a web, they didn’t crash into the wall.
"Ouch! That hurts! What do you have on you?" Leunen asked Titus, surprised that Titus was also angry and growling at Leunen. Leunen was about to retort when they heard Xerath moan and quickly rushed over, asking, "Your Majesty, what are your orders?"
Xerath furrowed her brow tightly, so Leunen had to say that they couldn’t understand. Then, Sylas grabbed Leunen and it felt pain again, this time from the spot where they made contact. It saw small black thorns appearing, and took a quick step towards Xerath, only to see horrifying thorns materialize and pierce Xerath’s fair wrist.
She quickly stepped back and told everyone, "We must spread out! Don’t get close to each other!"
The fireworks had already burst out, with the constant spewing of flames and magma, those Frostchild that would collide with people were all sprayed back into the Elemental Realm by them. The small Earth Child that got knocked into them, on the other hand, would become part of their armor.
But after hearing Sylas’s command, it couldn’t return to Sylas’s side, so it had to patrol in the outer circle.
It felt pretty powerful, but then there was a rustling sound coming from the darkness. Out crawled a long-legged spider from the pure black shadow. Xerath shuddered and closed her eyes. Sylas’s fireball flew out and passed through the spiders, or rather, after burning a hole through one, it had no effect on them. Instead, it flew towards the bookshelf behind them. Sylas exclaimed and quickly controlled the fireball to come back. The whole bookshelf felt the heat from the flames, and suddenly all the books flew up and hid in a deeper place.
The fireball didn’t hit the bookshelf after all, as it was suddenly extinguished by an unexpected ice barrier. Lacrima smiled and said, "Little beauty, you owe me a favor."
"Hmph."
Sylas had to try a different attack method in order to protect Xerath’s books. She had to carefully choose between fire, water, and whirlwinds. Eventually, she discovered that light orbs were the most effective. The spiders that were eroded by the light orbs couldn’t heal immediately and could be pierced through by the dense orbs, eventually disappearing.
She was getting into the battle when suddenly Xerath called her name, or rather, she felt that Xerath was calling her. So she turned her head and saw a giant spider crawling towards her. She exclaimed and her Sunstone spun rapidly around her, throwing light orbs one by one. But this spider was too huge, and even when it reached Sylas, it didn’t dissolve. Its strong front limbs grabbed Sylas, who tried to defend herself, but ended up passing through a dark mist. The mist was trying to grab her, but immediately grabbed her neck instead.
A sensation of suffocation came over her, not like the suffocation of being choked, but more like being immersed in a basin of cold water. Xerath saw fear on Sylas’s face and struggled with an almost suffocating voice, "Xerath…Xerath…no…don’t…don’t…"
She suspected that Sylas was having hallucinations because of the encounter with the shadow spider, but she couldn’t do anything. Her voice was cursed and unable to form coherent sentences, and her hand trembled too much to write because of the dagger stuck in her back. She had no choice but to call for Elvis, but their connection still relied on words. Elvis was bashing into the spiders with their body, which seemed quite effective, and their element was not being deceived.
She tried a different approach, using the most basic word root "fire" instead of the complex word "Elvis". However, this didn’t get enough attention from the Fireworks Chef. It was currently rushing to save Titus, who was entangled by the spiders. The poor little stool was struggling as if it was drowning, its four short legs flailing.
Only the ever-circling and absolutely loyal "wind" heard her voice. They understood the king’s intentions and transformed into one gust after another of gentle breeze, constantly blowing the Fireworks Chef towards this direction.
The kitchen helper quickly came back after rescuing the little stool, to prevent both sides from being hurt by the dark thorns, but the wind kept pushing it. It finally looked back and saw its favorite lady being entangled by a spider. The black spider spat out black silk and slowly wrapped Sylas in it. The brave kitchen helper rushed forward, using its arm as a shield, leaving a kitchen helper-shaped penetrating wound on the spider. It followed with several charges, and the fire finally burned away all the black mist. Sylas suddenly knelt on the ground, gasping loudly, clutching her neck with both hands.
The kitchen helper felt very sorry for this lady it had known since childhood, but even if there were shadowy injuries that happened without them being too close, it couldn’t just stand by. Sylas stood up on her own and faced Xerath’s worried face.
The pain in her body suddenly disappeared, and she broke into an exceptionally bright smile, reporting, "Teacher, I’m okay."
Sylas quickly turned around. She couldn’t just passively take hits while the one behind all this calmly stood in front of her desk, not moving an inch.
Sylas’s fireball flew towards her, followed by ice spikes, then earth spikes, light balls, and wind blades, but none of them could harm her and were all blocked.
"My child, I really don’t want to hurt you," Lacrima said with some regret, "but I can hurt your friends."
As she spoke, she suddenly clenched her fist, and light leaked from the gaps between her fingers. Ice spikes came from all directions towards the large water sphere, lava poured down from above towards the large ice block, and an indestructible firework was pierced by sudden chilly rocks.
Although it dodged this strike and didn’t let this thing freeze its core, its armor was still frozen. The frozen armor hit the stalagmite and was torn off from its body surface, exposing its core.
But Sylas didn’t sit idle either. She barely had time to rescue poor little Titus. She had to try to seize control over the elements. Unexpectedly, after a struggle, fire and earth once again submitted to her, and the hovering wind also helped a lot. They supported this liquid rock, saving the almost hopeless large ice block at the last moment.
The large ice cubes were starting to melt.
Sylas didn’t expect to succeed in one strike. The blob of magma she controlled hit Leunen and caused his frozen spikes to melt. Now, he was a healthy water lord again, and very angry. He spat out fragments from Flamestrom, which quickly grew into a lava monster that charged at the Lich. Then, Sylas sternly commanded all the water to "leave this place and never return."
The remaining water was happily chased away by the playful wind. The cracks torn open by the Lich were stitched back together under Sylas’s strong will. Whatever element Lacrima used, Sylas immediately drained it away—except for wind, but she realized she couldn’t command the wind at all.
It became very clear who was the ruler of the Elemental Gate. Xerath smiled, hearing the noisy wind welcoming Sylas’s arrival with three cheers. Lacrima was nearly helpless against her own daughter, like a rebel leader who failed to revolt and had all their troops turned against them.
Sylas launched her final assault. The fragments from Flamestrom and Elvis blocked her two directions, so Sylas set up a fiercely burning fire and rock cage in the third direction. She had nowhere to retreat, and her only fate was to be completely melted away, just like the lantern giant.
She tried to summon ice-cold thorns again, but Sylas was one step ahead, commanding all the earth elementals to obey her. Stone slabs flipped slightly from the ground, ready to attack, none willing to listen to Lacrima’s orders.
She had nowhere to escape now, but panic only flashed across her face for a moment. With her eerie smile, Sylas had a foreboding feeling and unconsciously turned to look at Xerath, only to see two black thorns about to strike behind her.
"No!!!"
The two black thorns struck forcefully, and Xerath suddenly looked up, letting out a painful cry. Sylas seemed like she wanted to rush over immediately, but the stinging pain forced her to stop in her tracks.
The elements in her hand broke free from her control. Lacrima took control of the elements, causing the Fireworks Chef to lose a piece of armor. The darkness on the ground suddenly expanded strangely. The shards of Flamestrom slowly sank into the darkness covering the ground.
Leunen cried out and quickly transformed into a flying carpet, saving the angry shards from the void and putting them back into his own body, making them shrink into a small piece.
Sylas’s attack was thus resolved. Not only that, but abnormal darkness appeared under everyone’s feet, except for Xerath and the evil spell that had imprisoned her. Everyone who couldn’t float slowly sank.
Titus sank the fastest because his legs were too short. The darkness didn’t even reach his chest! But Titus was also the most agile. He lifted his front legs first, causing his bottom to sink a little more. Then he lifted his hind legs while his front legs still sank at a specific rate. The large ice block on his back pressed his hands to the ground. Light passed through his body, underwent complex refraction, and miraculously all the darkness disappeared, revealing an open space.
