Chapter 249
Sylas suddenly turned around, her expression fierce, and whispered, "Remember your job, little cutie, stay alert!" Titus shook his body and let out a howl.
Sunstones surrounding Sylas emitted light one after another. She threw the light balls as casually as if they were free. With the Sunstones, these light balls were extremely affordable for her. However, she still had a large golden glow remaining on her fingertips because of the problem with conversion efficiency, dispersing in all directions due to the difference in magical pressure.
The light ball was moving very fast, but the enemy was also elusive. The light ball could only move in a straight line, and the places it passed quickly became covered by new fog. There were a few times when she saw the shadow of the enemy and even threw an ice ball, but everyone knew that ice balls didn’t affect the Lich much. A fireball might be more useful, but there were books everywhere here. If she couldn’t hit accurately, she might end up burning the teacher’s precious books.
"That’s not a solution…" Frostchild sighed and blew out white mist.
Titus bravely howled and pushed the creature that could spew white smoke onto his own back. Sylas asked in amazement, "Cutie, are you going to attack?"
Titus nodded solemnly, "Awoo, awoo, awoo!"
"Do you want me to light up the big ice block?"
Titus jumped up, with its front paws touching the ground just as its back paws were lifting. Because its body was too long and its legs were too short, it looked quite bumpy. Frostchild wondered how it managed to stick to Titus.
Sylas recited a spell, and the shining Sunstone turned it into an ice lamp.
"Don’t I look awesome!" It clearly looked at the Fire Lord.
Elvis gave it a thumbs up and said, "Go, my friend."
"I’m going! I’m really going!" It clenched its little ice fists in front of its chest, and a puff of white breath came out of its mouth. "Let’s go!"
Titus howled and rushed into the mist. The ice lamp on its back dispersed the mist, revealing a man holding a black lantern.
When Sylas saw the black lantern in his hand, she shouted loudly, "Attack!"
Frostchild was the first to be startled. It got so scared that it threw out two ice blocks, and then a stream of water sprayed up.
The black mist sprayed from the black lantern suddenly solidified into a spear in his hand. It poked towards the ice lamp, but Titus let out a roar and spat out a lightning ball, hitting the lantern giant’s chest, temporarily immobilizing him.
Thanks to this slight delay, the "attack" unexpectedly summoned by Sylas turned into wind blades. They overlapped and kept spinning, cutting the lantern giant’s black robe mercilessly until it fell off in pieces.
Before these cloth pieces even touched the ground, a bunch of sparks appeared under his feet. The intense flames frightened Titus and made it jump back. Fortunately, it escaped quickly. The cloth pieces were soon burned by the high temperature, not to mention how much "flame essence" the wind blades provided.
Underneath the cloth pieces, an old skeleton was revealed. What made it different was that the skeleton of the black lantern had some unshaved tendons and ligaments clinging to its surface, so the bones appeared not white but a deep and dirty yellow-brown color. The surface of his skeleton was also covered with sticky black shadows, which seemed to be the reason why these shadows held the motionless bones together, making them a walking precision instrument.
The wind blades were still spinning, but they seemed unable to harm him. With just a few punches, he dispersed the wind blades and pointed the solidified black spear at Titus. It almost poked the tip of its nose!
"Awooooo ~~~~!" Titus wasn’t scared of bones! The tiny stool spun around him, the black spear always missed by a hair. Sylas suddenly said to Elvis, "Big fireworks! Run over and hug him!"
The girl suddenly squatted down, with her hands pressed on the ground, and whispered, "Rise up!" Suddenly, stalagmites grew out from under the lantern giant’s feet. He seemed to be too busy to care about Titus, struggling to dodge, but Sylas’s spell didn’t stop, and the stalagmites kept growing. He soon looked as if he was dancing in the soil.
In addition to Elvis’s constant attacks, he became even more embarrassed.
This made him angry, and suddenly black smoke began to emit from his body. He swung his spear at the stalagmites and actually broke them! The black smoke was sharper than the sharpest sword. When it stabbed at the big fireworks, the big fireworks couldn’t dodge and was cut open. Its armor flew off, just like when it cuts butter!
Leunen reached out his long, long, long hand and grabbed the shrapnel. A sizzling sound of vaporization came, and Leunen whispered that it was hot, and he also absorbed the shrapnel into his body.
Everyone unconsciously swallowed their saliva.
Elvis was different from regular flame lords. It had solid (or liquid) parts. It was the second generation of flame lords formed after the invasion of fire elements into the Elemental Realm. By transforming its body with rocks, it had more attacking methods. It could even physically manipulate spoons and pots by controlling the temperature of its body. This brought them a lot of fun in their boring lives, but it also gave them a weakness: Fireworks Chefs depended on their molten special material core. Now, the molten ball was rotating in its chest and protected by its high-temperature rock armor. But just now, the spear was almost about to cut into the core! If it was propelled and solidified, it wouldn’t be able to stay in the mortal realm and could only return to the Fire Elemental Realm to find a new core to attach to in order to come back as a chef.
Sylas quickly urged the stalagmites to speed up, while raising one hand. A fan-shaped fire cloud burst open above the black lantern’s head, burning off its hat and revealing a face that was half rotten, with decaying eyeballs exposed.
She was startled, but luckily this face was afraid of fire. The last remaining eyeball on its face suddenly exploded from the high temperature, making a loud noise that scattered everywhere.
He tilted back a little and took a step back.
This was the opportunity! The girl seized the moment, regardless of whether he was really having his eyes blown out, the stalagmite suddenly shot up and pierced his rib cage. Elvis, a seasoned and very skilled chef, suddenly rushed forward, opened his arms, and set fire to the stone’s body, which instantly turned red hot. The solidified lava started to bubble and flow again. Elvis shouted, "Protect me!" and charged forward.
Sylas clapped her hands, and the golden radiance overflowed due to the immense magic pressure. She forcefully clapped on the ground, saying, "’Imprisonment’!"
The stones on the ground were flipped over, and stalagmites grew out in crisscrossing patterns. A circle of cracks tore open, and Earth Children rolled out one by one, neatly transforming into pillars along Sylas’s will. They extended arms from the air and leaned against the inner circle of stone slabs. Each Earth Child supported a slab, while the last one, with a flat body, sat on the only exit and sealed it tightly.
Xerath widened her eyes, feeling excited and itching for this imaginative magic.
Absolutely marvelous, my little wild beast…
The red-hot lava inside continued to bubble and some even overflowed from the cracks in the stones. The mist and purple-black light initially seeped out, but from the cracks illuminated by light, one could see the torrent gradually filling up, slowly displacing the mist and black light until they completely disappeared.
The moaning of the lantern giant suddenly stopped, and the mist vanished instantly without a trace. Xerath’s library also reverted to… a messy state.
"Well done, my child. Absolutely marvelous."
This is a regular compliment, but if it wasn’t said in the Setis language, it would have been ignored by Sylas, just like all the other compliments that didn’t come from Xerath.
Upon hearing these words, her whole body suddenly froze, her eyes widened as she stood next to Xerath, but she kept staring at the person sitting in front of her desk.
Lacrima looked up and smiled mischievously at her, playing with the mithril pen on the table. "’Sylas, your mother is really proud of you.’"
"’Mother’…" she murmured, turning her head to look at Xerath.
"Sylas, she’s already a Lich! She’s not human!" Her teacher’s face turned pale as he spoke words she couldn’t understand.
Strands of her light golden hair stuck to her pale face because of the cold sweat, which had drained all color from her. Her lips, once a vibrant shade of red, now faded and turned purplish. Sylas couldn’t hold back any longer. She reached out gently, embracing Lacrima’s waist, using her sleeve to wipe away the cold sweat on Lacrima’s forehead. "Why can’t I understand what you’re saying?"
"Oh, my dear, it’s been so long since we last saw each other. You’ve become an excellent magician."
"Are you really my mother?" While looking at Lacrima, she attempted various small spells to deal with the dark and peculiar substance entangling Xerath, but nothing could harm it. Even using the Illumination Spell and fire only made this seemingly living thing squirm uncomfortably.
Lacrima looked at her and softly began to sing a song. Her voice was very gentle, combined with her deep tone, it made people feel sleepy after hearing it.
Gustavian language, lullaby. Xerath chuckled softly, amazed that she had guessed correctly. It felt really good to be in Sylas’s arms, especially in this relaxed position where she didn’t have to resist or make excuses for herself. She could just enjoy it, and she even felt like leaning against Sylas’s shoulder.
But at that moment, Sylas held her and said to Lacrima, "Why are you doing this to the teacher? Put her down!"
"I’m afraid I can’t do that. I want to take you away, but she won’t let me. She wants to possess you, and I can’t agree to that. You are my daughter, not hers."
"Where are you taking me?"
"I’m taking you to a land of freedom, where you’ll be protected by me and won’t suffer anymore. Nobody will judge you unfairly, and you can do whatever you want."
