Chapter 248
Sylas was thrown onto the terrace, or rather, she jumped down to avoid being crushed by the dragon bones. She landed steadily on the terrace, while the dragon struggled to free its claw, but after a while, it stopped moving.
"Is it dead?" She stood in the breeze, her clothes sticking to her body. The dragon’s horn made a hole in the terrace, but at the same time, the horn broke. However, the scenery from here frightened her deeply. – "What is that?! What are all those?!"
Her beautiful little garden was filled with grey "bugs" that looked strange and fierce. Inside and outside the barriers, hundreds of wolf corpses that seemed to have been dead for days were scattered. What’s even more terrifying is that the black shadows seem to no longer fear light, or maybe the light is too weak? In any case, they gather together, one by one, from the dragon’s tail to its bones.
The dark shadow seemed to pulse with an unseen heartbeat, expanding and contracting, and causing ripples on the surface of the dragon bone.
Sylas looked at the gap on the terrace and said, "I think we can jump up there and take a look."
"Are you crazy! We have stairs, why do we need to climb up and down in such a dangerous place?" Leunen tried to stop her, but suddenly shouted, "It’s Titus! It’s calling you from inside!"
Sylas turned her head in surprise and saw the stool inside barking like crazy, shaking with each bark. However, the wind was too strong outside, and she couldn’t hear anything through the two layers of glass. She had no choice but to go over and open the door, but the door could only be opened from the inside.
"I can’t get in!" Sylas cupped her hands around her mouth against the glass and shouted, "Open the door! Good dog!"
Surprisingly, Titus understood and suddenly jumped up, clinging to the doorknob with his two paws, using his weight of thirty pounds to open the door. The wind instantly swung the door open, and Sylas rolled in, quickly kicking the door closed. Meanwhile, cute little Titus was flung inside.
Fire Lord hid in the kitchen and when he saw her coming, he exhaled heavily, spewing flames.
"Miss, you finally came back."
Sylas furrowed her brow and asked, "What exactly happened? What is that thing outside? Where is the teacher?"
Titus growled and grabbed a hold of Sylas’s clothes, then he started whining. Sylas picked him up and listened to his chatter, nodding her head continuously. "Hmm, there’s a really bad smell inside, and then what? You got scared and hid? Oh, not hid, just strategically retreated, and came to ask for help from the big fireball, right?"
She looked up and asked the Fire Lord, "Do you know what’s going on inside?"
"I’m afraid my master is not well, her soul is being corrupted. I’m afraid we will face the most dangerous enemy ever. Miss, this is the smell of darkness." It rested its melting arm on its lava skull and looked out the window at the ominous dragon bones emitting black smoke. "Can you feel it?"
Sylas unconsciously raised her hand and scratched the slightly itchy burn mark. "Is it the Lich?!"
"I’m afraid so."
Sylas pulled Leunen out completely and asked, "Water Lord, who has lived for I don’t know how many years, how do we deal with the Lich?"
"I’m just a big water bubble, but I dare to guess that we can only rely on the power of light…"
"Light! Is this big fireball useful?"
"Maybe it is…"
"Definitely!" Sylas rushed to the side of the wall, knocking on it and saying, "I need that piece of Sunstone." The obedient stone spat out the Sunstone embedded on it into her hand. She then went outside and carefully removed all the Sunstones used for lighting from the handrails.
The two lords followed her closely. As she took apart the Sunstones, she said, "Later, Elvis will burn the door, and we will rush in and fight anyone we see. You must protect the teacher, so she doesn’t get taken hostage. You need to be the first one to reach her. I will take care of the rest. Here, take this and swallow it. Even though I’m not sure if it will work." She placed a Sunstone inside Leunen, saying, "Well, you’re no longer pure water anyway."
She took off her apprentice robe and threw it on the couch. "Get ready for an assault!" Suddenly, she heard the sound of boiling water vapor and looked towards the inside of the house.
Frostchild lifted the lid of the freezer and darted out, throwing a water ball at Elvis. "Fireworks Chef! Where do you think you’re going without me?!"
Sylas waved at it, and it whistled and followed her. However, halfway there, Titus bumped into it. Sylas touched Titus and embedded a Sunstone in Frostchild. With the support of magic, the remaining Sunstones flew around her in a circle.
While heading upstairs, she unfolded a mirror and tried to detect any activity in the library. However, she couldn’t see anything except for the swirling purple-black flames.
"I think it must be some evil spell, like the Black Mist enveloping something." Leunen shrugged.
Sylas repeated in a low voice, "Great fireworks to dispel the mist, big water ball to protect the teacher, large ice block to smack people, little cutie, remember to bite ankles. Now everyone has a code name! Charge!"
In a place just a door away, Lacrima suddenly looked surprised as she watched Xerath. She laughed and said, "Oh my, oh my, she’s actually at home? Where was she hiding? I’ve already searched the entire tower, how did I not find her?"
Xerath was so surprised that she couldn’t find words to say. But Lacrima came over and wiped away the spell in front of her with her foot, and then quietly drew another one behind her. She calmly moved all the magical tools to the back.
Xerath struggled to look backwards and saw black marks suddenly seeping out of her precious library door. Then, bright red flames burst through the door, with lava spilling all over. She felt hopeless and thought to herself, "I probably can’t save my books."
"Teacher!"
It was Sylas! Xerath shouted loudly, "Sylas! Don’t come closer!" But as she looked around, she realized that the black lantern and Lacrima had both disappeared.
"Sylas! Be careful! It’s a trap!" She forcefully turned her head and caught a glimpse of Sylas nervously rushing towards her, completely ignoring her warning.
"Teacher? What are you saying? Why have you changed like this?"
"Don’t come closer!" Xerath sternly scolded, although her words were cursed and turned into a jumbled mess of syllables. Nevertheless, Sylas was still frightened by her stern expression.
In Sylas’s sight, there was a thick mist all around. So she summoned light orbs and sent them all forward. The orbs successfully dispersed some of the mist, revealing a bright glow around the burning Fire Lord. Titus barked and barked, but there was no target to attack, and neither the water lord nor the Frostchild knew what to attack.
"Leunen!" Leunen immediately flew towards Xerath and transformed into an ice shield, protecting her. At the same time, he asked in a low voice, "My queen, what is happening? Why did you suddenly start speaking in a foreign language?"
Xerath ignored everything and kept shouting angrily, "Don’t come close! Don’t come near me, Sylas!"
"Teacher? It’s me, right?" She cautiously approached, reaching out to try and dispel the darkness binding Xerath’s hands. But Xerath’s expression made her hesitate. "Don’t you recognize me? I will save you." She tried to get closer to Xerath, completely unaware of the shadow creeping beneath her feet.
She walked over, about to take that step. Xerath clenched her fists, closed her eyes, and let out a desperate cry.
Intense sadness engulfed Sylas, and she was so heartbroken that tears began to well up. This time, no matter how Xerath opposed, she was determined to embrace her and offer comfort. However, something extraordinary happened – Sylas’s wail caused the wind to stir.
The winds, usually circling around the king, had hardly encountered shadows before and were unsure how to deal with these peculiar intruders. They were waiting for the king’s command. In that fleeting moment, Sylas’s emotions broke through the barriers of language, making all the winds feel her determination.
They howled loudly, transforming into blades covering the entire open hall. A dangerous wind blade forced Sylas back, but Titus, due to his height, was not in any danger.
Yet it perceived something unusual and rushed towards Sylas from behind, as fast as a fireball. Two palm bones reaching out towards Sylas swiftly retracted, and a deep, angry female voice came from the mist, scolding, "Damn mongrel! Kill it for me!"
Titus’s whimpering echoed into the distance, finally fading away. Sylas quickly threw a light ball, and Fire Lord ignited a fire seed in mid-air, hanging just above the stool.
It was truly terrifying. The man picked up Titus’s hind legs, and Titus struggled in fear. Luckily, the fire seed burst into flames, forcing the man to take a step back and release Titus. As soon as his paws touched the ground, Titus agilely rolled and quickly ran back, hiding under Sylas’s feet.
Frostchild had thrown a bunch of ice chunks at the giant with a black lantern, making a loud noise. Sylas, using her knowledge of the terrain, suddenly released a burst of flames, creating a fan of fire in front of her in the mist.
Seeing her stepping back, about to fall into a trap, Xerath shouted loudly. Her wrist was suspended, and she struggled to point at the ground behind her, waving her hand continuously.
Sylas finally understood that it meant she shouldn’t step on the ground. She carefully circled around to Xerath, wanting to grab her but feeling unsure. She asked anxiously, "Are you alright?" The shadow was very interesting. It would cut off her hand, but it wouldn’t lose control over Xerath.
Xerath looked at her very anxiously.
She had never seen Xerath with such a desperate look, heavy with sorrow. It seemed like there were so many things to say, but the words coming out of her mouth were broken. She couldn’t understand a single word.
Leunen reminded, "Don’t forget we still have at least two enemies, possibly the Lich."
