Chapter 222
Xie Po de was quickly bumped open by someone. A delicate little girl looked at her timidly, hesitating to speak. Someone urged her from behind, and she quickly became flustered. She held Sylas’s hand and said, "I, I… I like you too! I noticed you as soon as you entered the school! We have taken the water elemental combat class together. Do you remember when you helped me with my homework? I eavesdropped on you teaching the elemental syntax exercise book. You were so beautiful when explaining the questions… If you don’t remember, it’s okay. My name is His Zui Xing Zhe. I’m about to leave the school, but I wanted you to know!" As she spoke, she also held Sylas’s hand tightly.
Sylas nodded blankly and hesitated, saying, "Oh…Thank you…"
His Zui Xing Zhe was also bumped aside, and another person quickly took her place. They said "like" to her, boys, girls, tall or short, taking turns appearing before her, expressing an inexplicable admiration. Until someone abruptly and forcefully pulled Sylas, causing her to stagger and almost fall into someone’s embrace. However, she was stopped in advance by someone grabbing her shoulder. She was about to reprimand the person for not following the order, but at this moment, someone whispered something in her ear, not directly to her, but related to her.
"I’m sorry, but I have something urgent to discuss with her. Please find another opportunity."
"Tea-teacher?!"
There were still some people who didn’t recognize Xerath and wanted to scold her for touching the little fairy among them at will, but a certain icy temperament stopped them. The archmage’s cold gray eyes swept across the crowd one by one. Sylas, who was usually decisive, stood awkwardly beside her, looking down at the hands they were holding.
The archmage wrapped her arm around Sylas’s waist and led her out of the dance floor.
Sylas hesitated whether to ask her what the urgent matter was, but Xerath preempted and asked, "During the previous song, you… did you have something to tell me?"
Sylas opened her mouth and thought, "What should I say? She just walked towards me, thinking I needed something from her. If I say no, will she immediately turn and leave?"
"Well… um… actually…" Xerath’s hand on her waist slid along as she pondered, afraid of scaring her away. She stammered, trying to delay.
"Hmm?" Xerath looked up at her, just like many times before when encouraging her to continue answering questions.
Simply encouraging her to keep talking.
"Um… are you hungry?" Her eyes glanced at the lively dining area and she suddenly spoke up.
Xerath laughed out loud.
"Are you tired?" Sylas felt that the previous question was a bit silly, so she changed it. But upon careful thought, it was still equally silly.
"A little tired."
"Then why not take a break? What would you like to eat? I can help you get it."
Xerath shook her head slowly and pushed her waist, saying, "Let’s go get it together."
The self-help area was a mess. She grabbed two pieces of seared steak and gave one to Sylas. Sylas didn’t know how to hold the plate while cutting and eating, but archmage found a solution. She used a small wind blade to cut the steak into small pieces. Archmage picked up a piece with her fork and offered it to Sylas, saying, "Try it, I remember it’s delicious. I hope the school hasn’t changed the chef."
Sylas bowed her head and bit into the meat, chewing slowly. Afterwards, she expressed her feelings, saying, "Yes, it’s really tasty. You should try it too." She picked up a piece and offered it to Xerath. Xerath lowered her head and took a bite, savoring it slowly and saying, "Hmm… I think it still tastes like it used to."
The Methylani region was known for its traditional Nislan flavors. The food on the table could almost be considered Xerath’s hometown cuisine. She had some cheese and pork meatballs, mashed potatoes, and fruit juice to fill her stomach. Then, with Sylas, she tried every kind of food. There were no seats for dining, only a few high tables to hold the plates. They had to stand while eating. Xerath always fed Sylas from her own plate, telling her, "This is delicious, give it a try," without noticing that someone was watching them.
Behind the multi-level tray stand, two girls were casually placing two bacon and egg pancakes in one of the plates, looking uninterested in eating. Jane grabbed Luna’s hand excitedly and whispered, "Do you see it?"
"See… what?"
"Stop eating," she snatched the small cake Luna was about to eat and quickly stuffed it into her own mouth. Then, with a tone close to recitation, she said, "Sylas looked up and cautiously asked her cold-hearted home tutor, ‘Would you like to try this?’ Seeing no objection on her face, she happily picked up a small piece with her fork and offered it to archmage, who absentmindedly ate it, as if this had happened many times between them, making it seem normal for everyone to not pay attention."
"What?!" Luna’s voice almost shook the roof, and Jane quickly told her to be quiet.
Luna leaned on the table, peeking through the gap on the second-to-last level. Archmage and Sylas had ignored her screaming and shifted their attention back to each other. True to form, Archmage fed Sylas a crispy golden ring. Luna glanced at the pot next to them, which seemed to contain fried onion rings.
Sylas took a clever bite, and then the archmage said something that seemed to be "Don’t be so impatient." Sylas was so happy that her eyes narrowed. Luna asked curiously, "Is it really that delicious?"
Jane crossed over to her and directly grabbed a piece with her hand. While eating, she said, "Can you feel the special sweetness when the archmage feeds you like this?"
"…I’m sure this is the natural sweetness of the onion."
But that was enough to make them scream. The two girls pretended to calmly finish the fried onion rings in their hands, couldn’t help but perform a short dance. With the music playing, they even looked a bit elegant.
Sylas suddenly asked, "Where’s Titus?" She just remembered Titus now.
"Didn’t you see it? It’s over there, surrounded by several girls." She pointed with her fork to a spot a little further to the left, and sure enough, there were a few girls surrounding Titus near the edge of the dance floor. They kept exclaiming, "So cute!" "So soft!" "So bouncy!" while stroking the cotton pad that Titus had turned over. On the adjacent seat, there was even a stack of steak piled up like a small mountain. It seemed that all the steak from this side had been given to Titus. Someone had cut it into small pieces and fed it to him.
"This manipulative dog." Sylas felt both angry and amused.
"Yeah, don’t worry about it." The archmage seemed to be very familiar with this footstool that had been spoiled and unruly, showing no surprise at all.
"Shall we go over there and take a look?" Sylas asked, but deep down, she just wanted to startle Titus with the company of the archmage.
The two girls left the dining area and moved towards the other side of the dance floor. Jane and Luna watched them leave. Then, an unfamiliar student came over and asked, "Hey, which grade is the person with the golden short hair over there? Do you know her?"
Luna laughed and said, "She’s in third grade."
The person clapped and said, "That’s great! Thank you, thank you. I never realized we had such a beautiful girl in our school until today. I want to ask her to dance."
After that person left, Luna and Jane giggled and followed behind. As expected, the archmage coldly rejected the person who approached. However, now there were fewer people who didn’t know Xerath, and more people who knew Sylas. They faced many obstacles along the way, especially people trying to ask Sylas out.
It’s not good to refuse someone’s dance invitation at a dance party, but Sylas couldn’t handle refusing so many. She turned to Xerath for help.
However, before she could fully see Xerath, someone grabbed her hand and gently led her into a soft and warm space.
Sylas quickly stood upright, but even face-to-face, she lacked the courage to look directly at Xerath. Would the teacher be unhappy?
She didn’t know, but there was a hand circling around her waist. It wasn’t just placed on her back politely and distantly, but rather pressed against her waist, not conforming to proper etiquette.
"I’m sorry, I already made plans."
When the music started playing, Xerath suddenly realized that many people must have known that the next song was this one, so they rushed to find Sylas first, right?
Although theoretically you can dance any dance moves to any song, this Talofin Dance is different. In many people’s childhoods, dance teachers used this song to teach a special set of dance steps – the spinning step and the chain step. So whenever this song played, everyone would spontaneously dance the same dance.
Sylas also quickly realized this, but she was not prepared at all – not prepared to use Professor Kuowa’s techniques. It was too embarrassing. Did she really have to play tricks on her teacher? Or… was it for this purpose? She didn’t dare to look up at Xerath, keeping her head down and almost staring at her own toes.
"Sylas, focus."
"…Ah? Oh…" Although she agreed, she didn’t show anything particular, so Xerath had to lift her chin, correcting her movements like any ordinary teacher would.
But Sylas couldn’t treat it so casually. Xerath had already given her enough "gifts" today. They used to have many intimate gestures that they both considered normal. Sylas had no idea what Xerath thought about it, but she really liked it. Sometimes, Xerath would lift her chin to prevent her from bowing down for too long and hurting her neck, just like today.
But today, the lighting was ambiguous, and there was a glimmer in Xerath’s eyes, as if it hid some kind of fantasy feelings, as if she was just gazing at her like this.
Sylas didn’t have the courage to look, but she didn’t want to miss out either. So she pretended to look past Xerath’s shoulder, while the corner of her eye always stuck to her face.
But it was hard to see clearly like this. She couldn’t tell if Xerath was looking at her or if she was also looking elsewhere, just like her.
