Chapter 213
The graduation ceremony entered the final countdown. Eilan also had Kuowa, the messenger, bring a formal speech invitation. Luna listened throughout the whole process, and after Kuowa left, she originally thought Sylas would show an ecstatic expression.
However, Sylas didn’t, not only that, but she also let out a deep sigh.
She has been away from Aimekotes for two years. During these two years, Sylas has experienced many things, which were completely different from her usual life in the tower. Sometimes she even felt that these two years were the longest time in her life.
But she will be leaving this school soon. It would be a lie to say that she won’t miss it, but as soon as she thought about returning to Xerath, she had mixed feelings.
Luna suddenly rushed over and said, "Fairy! Aren’t you happy? Graduation ceremony speech! You have defeated many older students!"
And the fact that the school was willing to give her this opportunity showed that the school didn’t want to pay attention to the "slave rumors" that had been circulating in the school during these days, which to some extent represented the mainstream opinion.
Sylas hadn’t realized yet and asked, "What will happen?"
"On the day of the graduation ceremony, many famous wizards will come to the school. Guess who they will see! It’s you! Fairy! They will ask, ‘Oh, which tower will the beautiful little girl on the stage enter?’ ‘Sorry, she hasn’t chosen any tower yet.’ ‘Great, let me go and ask her if she wants to be my student.’ Everyone will come rushing to choose you. The grudge that is suppressed by Mede for many years will finally be released!"
Speaking of Mede, that boy has been quiet for a while since he got through the Shame Mark. It seems like he doesn’t cause trouble anymore.
Sylas smiled.
"I invited the teacher, but I’m not sure if she will come."
"Surely, surely, you can do it!" Luna encouraged her. Fenika’s novel was almost finished, and it would be displayed on the counter once Sylas left the school area!
Sylas reluctantly replied, "Hopefully, I need to start writing my speech."
"Have you decided on a topic?"
"Yes, I’ve decided, and there’s no other option." She didn’t have any special feelings towards the life at the advanced school. Instead, she encountered a lot of obstacles. Being human in this world was indeed full of limitations. No wonder the archmage built the mage tower far away from the bustling city. There were many complicated and interesting phenomena here that inspired her with new ideas, but at the same time, the noise and chaos made her exhausted.
"Oh…" Luna noticed her lack of interest and guessed that she might be feeling down because of the teacher. She didn’t know how to comfort her, but she thought: If the story goes as we designed, the little fairy will definitely have a happy ending.
But that would be impossible. Jane had expressed her serious opinion about her fantasies, "We are adults. We can distinguish between the virtual and the real. We only observe and write our own stories, without doing anything unnecessary." She then rejected her idea of "finding a way to lure the archmage out of the tower."
Xerath and Sylas made a deal that she would "bring all the creatures from her family to the graduation ceremony." However, that was based on her successfully completing her studies. She wasn’t sure how Xerath would react to her finishing school two years early.
Perhaps she would be angry because this would disrupt her plans.
Every year, there are probably fewer than four thousand students who graduate from the advanced school across the entire continent (yes, half of them drop out halfway). Therefore, this is a quite honorable thing. In general, everyone would dress their best and invite all the relatives they can. That’s why the school has to limit each graduate to only inviting three people. Most of the senior students are quite leisurely, busy preparing new clothes and contacting guests. They also have unending parties – going to one place today and another tomorrow, practically getting drunk every day.
But this year, only Sylas graduated from the entire Snowfall Yard, so everyone was quietly preparing for the exams.
It was Luna and Jane’s screaming that broke the silence. Three days before the graduation ceremony, Jane said to Luna, "The Round Table Knights, who work at the External Relations Office, said that every year they write letters inviting prestigious alumni to give speeches, which means that every year they have to invite the Alpine Flowers from our Desert Tower."
It felt like a dream come true. Luna asked excitedly, "Did they invite the Alpine Flowers?"
"Normally, she wouldn’t reply each year, but this time, she responded saying that she might come. This is the first time in history."
The two hugged and screamed, jumped around for a while, and finally calmed down. Luna said, "Sylas will give a speech as the representative of excellent students, which means the esteemed archmage will most likely see her. Oh, oh, a historic meeting, I’m so excited…"
"Wait, but didn’t you say she invited the ‘teachers’? Isn’t this going to be a battlefield?"
Both of them fell into silence simultaneously. If there was something that could be considered the archenemy of fantasy fiction, it was probably reality.
"Oh well, let’s not worry about that. Didn’t Fenika say, ‘Focus on developing your story, we have nothing to do with real people’? I must record this historic moment, as for the rest, we’ll ignore it. Should I tell Sylas?"
"You decide for yourself! I need to work on my new story, right before the historic moment…" Jane’s storytelling style was very clever, intertwining real life and fantasy. After reading her story, Luna always had a feeling of "maybe reality is like this," so she wanted to take a chance on a truth or lie.
Luna immediately bounced up with excitement, saying, "See you tomorrow! I’m going to be a reporter and take part in this grand event!"
She ran off and later, when she got back to her dorm room, she said to Sylas, "Dear little fairy! I heard that archmage Xerath might attend the day after tomorrow!"
"Oh, I know," replied Sylas casually, as she made some final changes to her speech. Xerath had mentioned the possibility of coming, but there was a slight conflict in scheduling between the previous meeting and this ceremony, so she might not be able to make it. Sylas couldn’t figure out what exactly this meant; whether it was a carefully crafted lie by the archmage to maintain appearances, or if it was actually true.
Sylas’s lack of interest dampened Luna’s spirits, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her head. If even the person involved wasn’t enthusiastic anymore, how could she expect any sparks to fly? "Have you changed your mind? Don’t you love Xerath anymore? Have you forgotten why you dueled with someone?"
"No… what? Um?" Sylas looked puzzled, while Luna vented her frustrations. This made Sylas laugh, temporarily forgetting about these troubling matters.
"Have you forgotten the knight’s code? Have you forgotten about your medal?" she pointed at the little trophy on Sylas’s table.
"No, how could I forget? But if things go wrong tomorrow, it’s me who will embarrass myself in front of the archmage."
"It’s okay, I’ll practice with you. You can pretend you’re giving the speech to me. It’ll be fine, come on!"
"But… speaking to so many people is different from speaking to just one person, right?"
"I called both Jane and Caroline!" she said, then ran out. Several girls sat in front of her, encouraging her, saying, "It’s just like when you explain the problems to everyone normally."
"How can it be the same…" Sylas became even more nervous. "Every word you say will be heard by others. Any slight problem in your words will be noticed. I will be embarrassed in front of so many people… ah… if the teacher sees me embarrassed, they definitely won’t appear…"
"It’s okay, everyone will be busy with their own things at that time," Caroline said while working on the exercise book, pretending to not be serious. "Have you ever listened to the freshman speech? No, right? Don’t worry, just perform at your current level, it’s pretty good."
"That’s different, Sylas is a hundred times prettier than Mede. Just based on her appearance, everyone will look at her."
"Don’t make her more nervous!" the two of them started fighting.
In fact, Sylas wished she had more time to practice, but this was not an exam. No matter how much she practiced, there wouldn’t be any significant improvement. Instead, time passed very quickly. She woke up and realized it was the day of the graduation ceremony, shouting as she got out of bed.
Luna seemed even more concerned than her, rushing over and saying, "Don’t worry, don’t worry. It’s only 6 o’clock. The ceremony starts at 9:30. Let me fix your eyebrows… Lower your head."
Lowering her head wasn’t convenient, so Luna simply knelt on the bed and let Sylas sit. She ambitiously said, "I’ll give you a fabulous makeover," but then realized there was nothing to draw. Sylas was already fair-skinned, with a healthy blush due to nervousness. Her eyes were beautiful, her nose was beautiful, her lips, cheeks, and hair were beautiful. Although her clothes were plain, they looked beautiful on her. Luna threw down the eyebrow pencil in frustration.
"That’s fine! Let’s go have breakfast. After we finish, I’ll touch up your lip gloss. Then you can go on stage, and all the magic masters in the whole continent, especially our archmage who is looking for apprentices, will see you."
Luna’s performance made Sylas feel guilty, as if she knew something that Sylas had originally intended to keep secret.
As the time approached, Sylas nervously arrived at the venue. The students were all dressed in formal attire, wearing neatly tailored wizard robes. Someone came over and gave each graduate a special hat. Sylas looked around excitedly. The invited guests started to enter, and Sylas stared at the entrance. Suddenly, Luna asked, "Have you seen the ‘teacher’?"
"How did you get here! Isn’t it only for those who received an invitation…"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. My brother is also graduating this year. He invited my mom, me, and my younger brother."
"…What about your father?"
Luna exclaimed happily, "He’s busy with work!"
"Why are you so happy?"
