Chapter 210
"Well, even if that’s the case, do you think the person chasing us from behind would believe that I didn’t hear anything if you kill me? We’ve eaten together for so long, talked so much. Instead of speculating whether I told you or not, it’s better to just kill you and ensure our safety. Let’s go! We are…we are mage apprentices!"
"Oh…oh…" Luna unconsciously nodded, her mind in confusion, easily persuaded once again.
"Are you going to make a move or should I? Forget it, I’ll do it."
Luna looked at Swis with a pitiful expression after hearing that, "Then…then I’ll go…I’ll go distract his attention…"
Swis said, "Shh, someone is coming, cover up."
Luna tucked her golden hair into a black hood, completely concealing herself. After a while, she heard someone say, "Not here, let’s look ahead!" The sound of footsteps was close, almost stepping on them.
She heard footsteps going away and was about to come out when Swis held her and made a quiet gesture, not making any sound. Luna looked at him strangely until she heard someone above her saying, "They’re not here, let’s go!" and she widened her eyes in surprise.
Swis nodded and adjusted his earlobe, saying, "It’s for survival. Go that way, and then go to the rooftop pavilion over there."
Luna held his hand and suddenly stepped into a completely suspended area, but she didn’t fall, she just disappeared suddenly.
After two uncertain "position changes," they arrived at the rooftop pavilion they had spotted earlier. There was a sofa piled up here, and the two of them hid behind the sofa, hearing occasional people running below.
Swis whispered, "You need to take me to that tower." He pointed with his thumb to the tower behind him. "Then make some noise to distract that archer, and then we’ll go find Sylas, okay?"
"Okay, okay…" Luna looked around from time to time, nervously gripping her clothes, with the collar completely buttoned up to hide the conspicuous white shirt inside. The hood covered her hair completely, and only hiding in the darkness could make her feel somewhat safe.
"Right now, stand up and walk!" Swis pushed her, abruptly standing up and pulling her up as well.
Luna felt weak in the legs, as if walking on cotton, but Swis held her and whispered, "It won’t get any worse than it is now, let’s go!"
She nodded hurriedly, took a deep breath, and her fingers moved quickly through the night sky—inspired by Sylas, she had also learned how to cast spells by using multiple fingers instead of just one. She had practiced for a long time, and this time it really paid off in battle. They moved silently and appeared quietly on the watchtower, an area that should have been under the jurisdiction of the sheriff.
The good news is they were close to their target. The bad news is there were two people. Swis gave Luna a signal with his eyes, and Luna used all her strength to create a nearly failed "blazing flame" at the farthest point within her awareness. The flame appeared out of thin air but disappeared before it could ignite.
Both archers couldn’t help but turn their heads. One of them was about to string his bow when Swis crouched down and pushed one of the archers off.
Before the screams could end, the other person suddenly crouched down, swung his bow backwards, and swept it horizontally. Swis was prepared and had something in his hand, which he suddenly scattered.
The archer quickly raised his hand to block his eyes, crouched down, and Swis lifted him up and threw him to the ground. However, the archer, taking advantage of Swis’ distraction, grabbed his ankle tightly and pulled him down, and the two began to wrestle.
Luna didn’t leave and was pacing anxiously. Swis clenched his teeth and hoarsely said, "Luna, attack him, attack him!"
Luna finally gained some courage, trembling, she raised her hand and threw a fireball towards the two wrestling men. However, when the flames reached the archer’s body, they were abruptly consumed by a barrier and extinguished.
"Try again!"
The enemy archer held onto Swis and they started rolling, even rolling towards the edge of the platform, but then rolled back. Luna’s fireball even created a pit on the ground, but it just couldn’t hit them. She panicked and was on the verge of tears. The two rolling men on the ground frightened her, causing her to retreat, and the approaching cries of battle in the distance left her completely flustered. She trembled and asked, "Swis, what do we do? What do we do? Someone’s coming! What do we do?"
Swis suddenly flipped over and pinned the other person down, throwing a punch that landed on his nose. He raised his voice and shouted, "Go find Sylas!"
Luna nodded eagerly, but accidentally stepped on empty ground and fell down from the high platform.
The archer who had been silently fighting with Swis said, "Hmph, your companion is dead. There’s no help coming. Surrender!"
Swis pretended to make a mistake, but suddenly counterattacked and gained the upper hand. Mockingly, she said, "She won’t die!"
Luna left the tense scene behind and finally relaxed. Their strategy was working. As she looked around from the building, she occasionally saw shadows passing by below. Clearly, the screams had alerted some people, and they had noticed something was wrong with the high tower. They were now investigating in that direction.
Time was running out. Swis could only fight one archer at most with her physique, while Luna didn’t care about her own safety and cast spells continuously. She changed positions twice in a row, determinedly getting closer to the center of the explosion.
From this distance, she could already see Sylas. She had been hiding on the rooftop for a while, surrounded by danger along with Caroline. There were two thieves from the opposite side, disappearing and reappearing intermittently. Some melee fighters with swords and axes alternated their attacks on them, while a mage hidden in the distance occasionally shot cold arrows. However, due to the thieves’ close-quarters combat, they couldn’t deal with the mage far away. They were forced to divide their attention between the nearby harassment and the attacks coming from afar, which made them exhausted.
Fortunately, the two apprentice elemental mages had received good training and had a loyal and reliable water lord, Leunen. Occasionally, Leunen transformed into a huge sea urchin made of ice, making everyone have to move aside. It worked perfectly with Sylas, always guarding its master’s back. Sylas’s dazzling spells always launched effective attacks. During this period, Luna saw Sylas’s wind blades pass through the thieves, only stopping when they were split by axes.
Luna saw a faint light behind a shadow and shouted loudly, "Sylas, attack the one on the left!" She then used the long-range "Blazing Flames" spell, trying to mark the bad guy for her roommate. Sylas’s wind blades immediately followed, accompanied by the explosion of all the crystals melting, silently disarming an arm.
However, the axe-wielding warrior behind relied on the fallen companion as cover and suddenly attacked Sylas. Luna almost couldn’t help but scream, but Sylas remained calm. As she raised her hand, a tall wall of earth rose up with a rumble. A muffled sound came from behind, and Sylas even had the presence of mind to shout, "Luna, take cover!"
No matter what Sylas said, listening was always right. She quickly turned her head back, and a small flying knife passed in front of her, thrown by the surviving thief. Even though the flying knife brushed her face, she felt magically relieved. Staying next to Sylas meant safety, unlike Swis… Oh no, she almost forgot about Swis!
While Sylas was using an ice shield to deflect a swinging axe, she looked up and shouted, "Luna, go to the other side!"
Obediently, she "changed places" and when she turned her head, she saw that someone had come up to where she was standing just moments ago, staring at her from across. Both of them snapped out of their daze, and the person suddenly accelerated, leaping over from the other side of the alley. Luna shouted in fear, and Sylas continued, "Fireball!"
Luna’s hidden potential emerged in this particular moment, as the biggest fireball she had ever conjured flew out of her hands. The villain who had been menacing Luna a moment ago instantly became frightened, futilely trying to protect their face with their hands. The fireball extinguished with a "bang," most likely hitting some protective gear. The person realized they were unharmed, and a grim expression took over their face, causing Luna’s joy to vanish and fear to return.
However, it seemed that Sylas was prepared for such a situation. Suddenly, a fountain intercepted the flying warrior from mid-air, completely changing their trajectory. They were shot up into the sky by the fountain that seemed to come from the Endless Water Realm, but after that, the water column disappeared without a trace.
Losing two enemies at once, the sudden shift from offense to defense slowed down. Sylas became even more skillful, and Caroline looked up and asked, "Where’s Swis?"
Luna immediately remembered Swis and shouted, "Go save Swis!" Ignoring the fierce ongoing battle, she quickly moved in front of Caroline and said in a hushed yet excited voice, "Swis is over by the watchtower. He said someone is controlling everything from there. When I left, he was still grappling with the archers on the tower, but I’m afraid enemy reinforcements are arriving soon!"
"Why didn’t you say so earlier?"
Suddenly, Sylas stuck her head out and said, "No wonder the pressure on this side suddenly decreased. Let’s change positions quickly." Based on Luna’s information, it all made sense to her: the watchtower was under attack, and the attackers outside couldn’t immediately find them in the complex alleyways, so fewer and fewer people were surrounding them. Sylas didn’t have to use spells that would give away their location, such as explosions or flames. The people who could discover and trap them were becoming fewer and fewer.
"But can you take two people at once?"
"No!"
"That’s okay, we’ll float over. Leunen?"
The magnificent Water Child, the keeper of Flamestrom, the great Lord Leunen from the depths of the Endless Water Realm, is freezing together the two people connected to its body. Upon hearing the call of Sylas, it couldn’t help but complain, "My dear lady! Even though I am incredibly great, I am unable to be in multiple places at once!"
"Don’t worry about those two people," Sylas said calmly, as her hands flicked through the air, countless tiny wind blades pierced through Leunen’s suddenly hollow body, cutting his two opponents into pieces.
