Chapter 198
"Is it because of the mirror? The innkeeper gave me a small mirror."
Kuowa smiled and said, "It’s almost impossible to stop them with just a small mirror. You smell lovely, they won’t give up because of that. Tell me."
Sylas thought for a moment and said briefly, "In my dream, a demon disguised as an elder did something strange to me. I smelled sulfur and realized it was a dream. The demon got angry and tried to attack me, but was driven away by flames."
"Flames? What kind of flames?"
"Golden ones, like the color of magical radiance."
"Kuowa?"
Kuowa smiled at Eilan and asked Sylas, "Let me see, okay?"
Her purple eyes were as beautiful as crystals, and Sylas was unintentionally captivated by them. She nodded slowly and said, "Okay…"
She didn’t know why she walked into the dark wilderness. All the humans were untrustworthy. They attacked her, tried to catch her, pretended to offer her food and clothes, but then locked her in a cage. This time, she ran into a desert where no one dared to approach, but those greedy hunters didn’t stop and continued to chase after her, getting closer and closer.
Sylas ran with fear, and finally a tall gray tower appeared on the distant horizon. The sun broke through from behind the tower, burning away all the darkness. A golden glow enveloped her, and she finally relaxed and collapsed on the ground, losing consciousness.
Kuowa woke up with a smile and whispered to Eilan, "She is a ‘wild beast with an owner,’ and her owner is constantly asserting ownership."
Eilan widened her eyes in amazement and asked, "Humans can have an ‘owner’? Humans may be fragile, but they are also powerful. Even demons cannot enslave humans unilaterally; they must use deceitful terms and conditions to do so. Could her owner be a dragon?"
"I don’t know, shhh, she is about to wake up."
Sylas suddenly woke up and Eilan asked, "And then what happened?"
"Afterward, she turned into a bat and flew away. I placed a small mirror on her forehead and then slept until dawn. The difference is that Luna dreamt of demons stepping on her, while Swis dreamt of demons hunting."
Kuowa said, "Don’t worry, I will help you remove the mark. Just don’t go near Mount Borliboli in the future; it is a city of demons."
"Do you live there too?"
Kuowa replied with a soft laugh, "Once upon a time, I was also one of the Grand Lords of Borliboli. Stay still." Flames of green fire burned in her hand, and she burned away the evil mark on Sylas’s forehead.
Eilan asked, "What are you going to Mount Borliboli for? Are you going to find demons? That is a very dangerous thing to do. You haven’t even finished my basic introduction class, so you hardly know anything about demons."
Sylas thought it would be best to tell the truth, "I’m going to measure crystallization."
"Why do you want to measure crystallization?"
This was a good reason to lie, and Sylas had prepared her answer in advance, "I heard that you also regularly measure crystallization. So, you must know about the Yearbook. After the advanced exam last summer, I measured a geological crystal area, and my report is in this year’s Yearbook. I found it very interesting, so… I took the opportunity to visit the legendary volcano crystalization nearby. But, it’s true that it was too dangerous, and I don’t dare to go there again." She shyly smiled.
Eilan nodded, accepting her reason. Sylas was a bit surprised because she thought Eilan would ask more questions, but she didn’t.
However, the next day, Kuowa suddenly appeared on the North Tower of Sisters Hall. Only Sylas and Spider Shirley were there as Slote Lady hadn’t finished work yet. They heard she had gone to clean Falcon Fortress, a very challenging area to clean.
"… Hello," Sylas opened the door, alertly watching Kuowa. She felt like this demon could see through many of her secrets.
Kuowa leaned against the door with a smile, "Aren’t you going to invite me in?"
Sylas had no choice but to welcome her inside. Dealing with guests wasn’t her strong suit. After brewing Kuowa some honey lemon tea, an awkward silence fell upon the room.
Kuowa spoke up and said, "I can teach you demon spells, but I want to know… I want to enter your dreams. Dreams hide many secrets. Antihazza saw Sylas’s dreams and pretended to imagine them. Kuowa, being a succubus, couldn’t see Sylas’s imagination. Antihazza Sisters and her have a bad relationship, so she refused to reveal what she saw in the dreams. Kuowa had no choice but to deceive Sylas and try to get her permission to enter her dreams and see who her owner really is."
Sylas looked alertly and asked, "Why?"
Kuowa smiled and said, "Do you want to know why the Antihazza Sisters gave up hunting you?"
"So?" she asked nonchalantly.
"I just want to help you find out," Kuowa sweetly and innocently said.
Ever since Sylas found out that she used to be one of Borliboli’s Grand Lords, she became wary of her. She looked nothing like her old self. Sylas shook her head to refuse.
Kuowa smiled at her and asked gently, "Were you scared in your dream that night?"
Sylas stared into Kuowa’s eyes, her purple irises filled with countless tiny needle-like patterns. She moved her lips, her gaze distant and hazy, but suddenly her eyes returned to clarity. "No, I wasn’t scared," she said.
Just a bit disappointed and frustrated.
Kuowa opened her eyes and looked surprised. Her Charm Spell no longer worked on Sylas, which meant Sylas was now very cautious of her.
Guarding against demons is not an easy task, it requires firm willpower and determination.
"Okay, but don’t you want to learn spells from demons?"
Sylas said, "I can go to Borliboli again and bring back the stones you tampered with for study. What do you think of this idea? I don’t need to make a deal with demons."
Kuowa smiled and covered her mouth, saying, "Why go through all that trouble? Since you don’t want to make a deal, I’ll just teach you the secret of demon spells."
"Conditions?"
"No conditions, I’ll teach you how to make a Demon Mark, just don’t rush me away."
Sylas looked at her distrustfully. Eilan had warned never to trust anything a succubus said in class, or else there would be consequences.
"Oh, don’t look at me like that, I’m easy to talk to. Why do you think I would make a deal with Eilan before I would let her control me?"
"What conditions?"
Kuowa shrugged, "Just don’t make me stay at the ‘Demon’s Lair’, let me sleep on her bed."
Originally, the term "Demon’s Lair" referred to a city where demons lived. It was so incredibly small that the demons had to shrink in size to enter. Demons who had signed a fraudulent treaty with humans would also live in a void, which was called the "Demon’s Lair" exclusively for the summoner. I heard that Eilan had a little imp, a hellhound, and a doomsday messenger. Kuowa probably felt it was beneath her dignity to live with these guys.
"Won’t you get her soul or something when she dies?"
Kuowa laughed, "Of course not. It’s mostly like that, with some harmless additional terms to define responsibilities for that one."
The conditions offered by the demons were so generous that the young elemental envoy couldn’t find a reason to refuse, but still asked, "No additional terms?"
"None at all. I promise to teach until you learn."
"Alright."
"Then, see you tomorrow! I’m going back to find Eilan. Oh, I miss her so much…" Kuowa said as she opened the window, winked at Sylas, snapped her fingers at Shirley, and then spread her fleshy black wings, gliding towards Falcon Fortress.
Shirley’s head suddenly made a loud noise, and she got scared and ran around, but the mark on her head kept following her.
Very green and very evil.
Sylas thought for a moment, and actually had an idea after seeing the Demon Mark: add it to the Dueling Law so that all her former underlings would never be able to get rid of this mark for the rest of their lives. She wanted them to remember this shame, so she summoned the mark for everyone to see.
It’s really perfect, except that humans still can’t use demon spells.
But she firmly believed that this could be achieved. Following Xerath’s hypothesis of "Monism," all spells and similar spells should have a similar and very simple essence, even though she didn’t know what it was yet. Demon spells, mind spells, elemental spells, spatial magic, Elven language spells, Dragon language spells, they were all just complex representations of this simple rule.
Thinking about this, she couldn’t wait any longer. The next day, she left the classroom early and waited for Kuowa to come find her in the tower.
Kuowa was very punctual and knocked on the activity room door at the same time as yesterday. Sylas silently invited her in and brewed tea for her. Kuowa drank the tea slowly and couldn’t help but compliment, "It’s delicious, who taught you?"
"The Fire Lord at home."
"How is your research going on witchcraft?"
"Not bad, now I can easily change the shape, size, and duration of Shame Mark."
"It would be great if Shame Mark could fade and appear at any time."
Sylas looked in Kuowa’s direction. Kuowa flashed a knowing smile.
"Demon spells can’t be directly commanded with a spell. Eilan didn’t tell you the truth. However, she was just afraid that the dangerous nature of demon spells would cause unnecessary harm to you children."
"What is it?"
"Demon spells require a tether, they need to rely on your own soul. If you want a spell to last, you have to leave your soul behind."
"But, but, won’t that leave the soul shattered?"
Kuowa giggled again, "What are you thinking? Of course, you don’t have to use such a big piece! Just imagine, if you only used a single hair… what difference would it make?"
