Chapter 190
The Elemental King knew every move in her world like the back of her hand. "In Aimekotes, your powers and perception are amplified, which is different from the school. Be more daring." She placed her hand on Sylas’s shoulder and leaned over to look down, "Very good, keep it up."
Sylas straightened her body to support Xerath’s weight, almost losing control of the water. However, as Xerath said, she released her control to allow the water to naturally blend into the soil. In the end, she only needed to "push" them a little, making them penetrate the roots. It was simple. Then, Xerath lowered a wind shield for her, so she could water the parts that had grown outside.
After finishing everything, Sylas let out a sigh of relief, stretched her tired arms, and even sniffed her nose.
"I’m so tired." The main consequence of being highly focused is fatigue. Xerath smiled and said, "It can be a bit tiring, let’s take a break and go check on Leunen."
"Maybe they’ve already started fighting."
"Hyectra is a gentle water lord."
"But Leunen will definitely intentionally provoke Hyectra out of boredom. Hopefully, they won’t ruin our experiment."
Xerath squeezed her hand and said, "It’s really worrying when you say that. Let’s go check on them." She then pulled Sylas towards the library.
Thankfully, a rainbow by the window was still there, but Leunen wasn’t. Two water children were guarding the experiments and the lab table, while two water lords formed an ice sculpture in a strange shape.
Xerath let out a sigh of relief. "Luckily, they still remember our experiment. Sylas, go check on your…your color-changing experiment."
Under the beam of light, the ink gradually turned deeper from red to blue. She called her teacher in surprise and said, both unexpectedly and joyfully, "Look, who do you think won?"
Xerath burst into laughter and said, "Let’s tidy up and prepare to write the experiment report. We both didn’t expect to lose."
It was quite funny, but Xerath was just making fun of herself. If they had made a bet for a kiss, it seemed like fate was intentionally keeping them from kissing each other. That must be destiny.
Even though Sylas had been away from home for almost five months, when she came back, she quickly adapted to the unchanging life of the archmage.
Now, every time Xerath looks up, she can see her little pet again, and this makes her sigh less often.
But this is not a good sign. The archmage knows deep down that in the days when Sylas is not around, her dependence on this tame beast has only grown stronger. This was never her intention when she wanted to send Sylas to school.
"Teacher?"
Xerath was awakened from her daydreaming and looked up to see worried eyes that resembled emeralds staring at her.
"Sylas, what’s wrong? Do you have a question for me?"
"If you’re clueless, shall we go for a stroll in Withered Leaf City?" Xerath was clearly lost in thought, unable to come up with anything, so she decided to abandon her work. Sylas thought this and continued, "Let’s try something different, how about going out for cake?"
Xerath looked at her and slowly smiled, "But don’t tell Elvis, I used to tell him that a regular life helps with thinking."
However, her principles were easily broken by Sylas. But the beautiful beast didn’t think much of it. The two of them sneaked out of the house like skipping class and went to Withered Leaf City.
School was about to start, and it was getting dark earlier. But it was still late. They walked along the streets they had walked many times before, and also went to the riverside. There were many young people here drinking. You could hear them playfully fighting after a short distance. Xerath whispered, "Whether it was in Sotralo or Star Song Castle, it seems that students always like this, drinking by the river at night. Luckily, they remember to take their bottles with them."
Just as she finished speaking, a young man broke a bottle and used the flat glass shards to skip stones.
"…I seem to have overestimated their qualities. How about you? Would you go out and have fun? Like going to a bar or a dance party? Star Song Castle is also a gathering place for magicians, and the student association often organizes activities, right?"
Sylas smiled and shook her head, "I have never been. There was even a time when many people didn’t go either."
Xerath exclaimed, "Did you cause trouble? Did you blow up the venue?"
"Am I just a troublemaking little devil in your eyes?" Sylas asked, both crying and laughing.
Xerath confidently said, "I have enough evidence. Aimekotes remembers you forever with a scar."
"No, that’s not true! I didn’t cause any trouble!" she quickly defended herself, though feeling a little guilty. She even double-checked the conversation she had with Xerath to see if there were any loopholes. "It was just during a dance party when it happened. Almost everyone from Snowfall Yard didn’t show up, right when I was planning to give everyone a talk."
"Ah, ha! You must have made a lot of people without dance partners!"
Sylas blinked her eyes, thinking that maybe this was why some people held a grudge against her. It seemed like every now and then, a few people would challenge her to a duel without revealing the reason. But she knew that such duels were illegal, as they should only be for matters related to personal honor.
"Maybe, probably, that’s why a lot of people dislike me."
The archmage asked with great interest, "Why give everyone a talk?"
Sylas roughly explained the events that happened after she discovered Sashara’s exercise book to Xerath. "Many people had the same questions, so I thought, why not talk about it together?"
"Virgil said you have many female admirers, all because of giving a talk?"
Sylas chuckled foolishly and answered, "Probably. Girls sometimes have strange reasons to like someone."
"You are a girl too, based on your own experience, you should be able to explain the strangeness in it, right?"
Sylas pretended to think, pretended to smile, and thought to herself, "I really can’t understand them. You are the most important person in my heart, and somehow I fell in love with you."
The stars rose one by one, the sun had long disappeared, and the moon slowly emerged. When the two returned to the Mage Guild, it was almost ten o’clock. Xerath sighed and said, "I have been walking for a long time today."
"Teacher, it’s beneficial to take a walk to relieve fatigue from sitting for a long time."
Xerath said, "Yes, yes, I understand. When you’re not at home, I keep practicing… um, basic martial arts." She gestured and demonstrated a little.
"Really?"
"Of course it’s true." Xerath raised her eyebrows slightly and stared at her, looking somewhat proud.
She was so cute. Sylas looked at her cheerful expression and felt excited to the point of wanting to kiss her, but she still held back.
She returned to her room with Xerath following her. They chatted about various speculations on "photographic light" until Sylas needed to go to the bathroom. They were still leaning against the door, talking inside and outside. In the end, Xerath pushed her in and said, "Alright, we’ll talk when you come out."
"Will you still be here when I come out?"
"I will wait for you here," she said, closing the door.
Sylas turned around, suddenly startled. She quickly went through all her personal belongings in her mind. Luckily, she had already entrusted "books" to Caroline, so she wouldn’t bring things that the archmage shouldn’t see to school, including those letters. But she started to worry about what to do with these things after graduating from school. If she brought them back home, there would definitely be a chance for the teacher to see them.
Wait, she seemed to have imagined things too optimistically. Xerath might not be interested in her personal belongings at all. As long as Sylas asked her not to look at something, she would definitely not peek.
Thinking this way, she felt a little disappointed. Xerath didn’t have any desire to get to know her, and her feelings towards Xerath were completely mismatched.
She got up with a sense of disappointment. Water splashed from her body as she wrapped herself in a towel. The small Son of the South Wind heated the entire bathroom and also dried her hair. She walked out with her hair loose. Xerath leaned against a chair with her back turned to her, but she didn’t respond when Sylas came out. Sylas had some doubts in her heart, so she approached quietly and peeped from behind. Sure enough, Xerath seemed to be asleep.
Her closed eyes made her look a bit tired. One leg was crossed over the other, fingers intertwined, both hands resting on her stomach. Her head leaned to one side, with fine strands of hair tucked behind her ear, revealing cheeks as fair as white marble, with a hint of pink only on her small earlobes.
She was exquisitely and perfectly beautiful… Sylas gazed at her intently, unable to resist reaching out to touch her, but afraid that even the lightest touch would wake her up. Why does she always fall asleep here? This is simply tempting… It’s already the third time she has fallen asleep defenselessly, creating another opportunity for her.
Sylas’s breathing gradually became rapid, she also brushed aside the strands of hair on her cheek, tucking them behind her ear, and slowly bent down.
Just a little bit… so close that her lips seemed to feel the coldness on her cheek. She even had a contingency plan. If Xerath wakes up, she would say…
"Hmm…" Xerath suddenly made a soft and unclear sound, blinked her eyes, and turned to look at Sylas.
They were very close, too close. But Sylas had already prepared for such unexpected situations. She calmly said to Xerath, "Teacher, how about sleeping on the bed?"
"What’s wrong? Did I fall asleep again?" Xerath apologized and smiled. "I don’t know what’s in your room, but I always end up sleeping like this. If I sleep on your bed, where will you sleep?"
Sylas thought for a moment, shrugged, and said, "The library?"
"Um… Where were we just talking about?"
Sylas chuckled and said, "If you can’t remember, don’t think about it anymore. If you don’t want to sleep in my bed, how about I escort you back to your room?" As she spoke, she extended her hand and drew a golden feather.
Of course, Xerath knew what she was thinking. She wanted to use the "light as a feather" to transport herself back, not using the water lord, but directly with her hand…
