Chapter 165
"Come on, Shirley. It won’t hurt you. Come, come, hurry up."
The spider web was its final sanctuary, a sticky net that also served as its protective barrier. Even if an ordinary person didn’t get stuck, they would still be in a sorry state. But when this magical girl stepped on the spider web, it froze. Shirley shrank in the corner, trembling. Finally, Sylas picked him up by his side and slowly approached the laboratory bench. Its eight legs waved, ready to escape as soon as it landed.
"Shirley! Don’t move!" A small tornado lifted it up into the air, and the beautiful girl with black hair threw a white glove at it under the moonlight (there were at least two dozen more in the box under the laboratory bench). The white glove immediately ignited with pale flames. Sylas confidently chanted a spell and then sprinkled some madder root powder on it, followed by Tower Rock powder, silver powder, and gypsum powder. The flames and the tornado consumed it together.
Shirley cried helplessly. As soon as the small tornado disappeared, it couldn’t wait to run out of the circle and curled up in the corner, with a white skull on its head stained blood red, making it look more like a bloodthirsty spider under the moonlight.
Sylas wanted to go comfort it, but Shirley seemed very scared, so Sylas had no choice but to let it calm down as a spider and closed the door, leaving the activity room.
She walked on the sprinklers of the towering buildings with her white gloves and her test materials. There weren’t many people on the road. Most of the students had returned to their dormitories to rest after the last class. The well-groomed large garden was occupied by couples, usually choosing a dark corner that was concealed by plants and pavilions, not bothering each other.
To be honest, the word "couple" made her very envious. If… she shook her head, stopping herself from fantasizing further.
Luna might be inside too. Should she call her to go back together? No… better not.
Snowfall Yard is in the southwest. She planned to take a shortcut, passing through a small path in the middle of the garden. As she passed by a gazebo, she noticed a couple sitting next to a pillar, quietly stargazing, oblivious to her presence.
Based on her observations over the past half year, couples usually ignore their surroundings when they are together, just like this.
After walking a bit further, she heard a muffled argument ahead. But as she got closer, the argument suddenly grew louder. It seemed to be a couple fighting. When she looked over, she saw a female student angrily pushing a male student away. Her water lord accidentally bounced back, intercepting the approaching male student.
He took a couple steps back to chase after her, but ended up colliding with Sylas. Sylas took a couple steps back and was caught by Leunen. In this situation, it’s common for the other person to apologize, but he didn’t. He seemed very unhappy and rudely exclaimed, "Are you blind, you son of a bitch!"
"I hope you can show some respect to my master," Leunen suddenly stood in front of Sylas with his chest puffed up. But since he was transparent, Sylas could still recognize him as Mede, the annoying ghost clan nephew.
Mede clearly recognized her too, and the smirk on his handsome yet sinister face doubled. "Isn’t this the lapdog of the whore’s house?"
Sylas stared at him intensely, the leaves rustling as the wind suddenly grew stronger, swirling around them. Her sharp gaze pierced through Leunen, and her water lord quietly reminded her, "Killing him is inappropriate, and even attacking is not allowed."
Sylas suddenly dropped the silky white gloves in her hand, took a deep breath, and said, "Let’s have a duel."
Mede chuckled and then burst into laughter, "You crazy woman, where did you read this cliché from a knight novel? Duel? Hahaha… Do you want to duel with Lord Sauran? I advise you to think carefully. Look at this." He pointed at his collar, which had blue silk thread embroidered along the edge.
Sylas whispered an incantation, and three small glass test tubes containing powder exploded in mid-air, enveloped in a sudden pale flame of magic. The flame also engulfed Mede, who screamed and jumped around. After a while, he remembered to tear open a rift in space to summon water and extinguish the magical flames.
The flames went out, and smoke billowed everywhere. Once Mede realized he was unharmed, he resumed his arrogant expression, "Is that all you’ve got? I thought it would be more! Well, now it’s your turn to experience greatness!"
While he began casting a spell, Sylas focused on observing the yellow boundary under her feet. The dueling circle formed.
To be honest, Sylas herself was unsure. She had only fought against one mage, an archmage, and used highly destructive spells. Those spells posed a significant threat even to the archmage. If things were the same as before, Sauran might actually end up with a brutal death.
Sylas hesitated and cast "Whirling Breeze" on herself, just as Sauran’s water lord stepped forward and cast a defensive spell upon seeing her. He sneered and resumed casting his own spell.
When she heard him say "Water Abyss," Sylas started to feel impatient. There was enough time for her to walk over and punch Mede. However, Mede’s water lord was much quicker in casting spells and swiftly approached her. She signaled to Leunen, who eagerly rubbed their hands together and said, "Shall I go now?"
It didn’t seek Sylas’s permission. On the contrary, its master had already launched a small tornado towards Mede, and the water lord used its body as a shield to block the tornado.
Sylas didn’t care that her attack was blocked, she kept walking forward, murmuring words quietly.
Suddenly, a mixture of icy water fell on her head. It came from the water lord on the other side. The spinning speed of the "gentle breeze" suddenly increased, throwing all the icy water outside. The water lord tried to cast a spell, but Sylas tore open a rift in front of her and a giant ice spike pierced through it, tearing apart its body. Just as it was about to close, it froze completely.
The water lords could change their form at will, making physical attacks almost useless against them. But once they turned into ice, they became somewhat fragile.
Leunen threw it to the ground.
It was just a matter of moments before two grains of sand. Mede hadn’t finished chanting her spell yet. Sylas approached him step by step. The strange sight earlier had frightened him, and he had never faced such a chilling presence before.
He wanted to escape, but the spell was about to be completed. It was sure to deal a fatal blow to her! That chilling feeling, maybe it was just a cold wind in the garden at night…
The wind lingered around, whispering softly:
"Won’t you punish this arrogant commoner?"
"Won’t you tear apart his flesh?"
Sylas shook her head, punched Mede on the chin with all her strength, her own hand hurt, Mede stumbled back, almost tripped on a stone.
These were not ordinary stones, they were Sylas’s Earth Childs, two Earth Childs caught Mede falling on his back from behind and threw him out of the battle ring.
The glowing circle on the ground disappeared instantly, the dots of light converged rapidly towards Mede, forming a blood-red Shame Mark above his head.
Mede stood up awkwardly, dusted off his clothes and rubbed his face, provokingly saying, "Is this all you’ve got?" Then he began casting a water elemental spell, but this time it was brief. A ice ball flew towards Sylas, who raised her hand and created ripples. The ice ball hit the ripples and was completely absorbed and melted, becoming a part of the ripples.
Sylas admired the Shame Mark behind Mede, it looked perfect even in the darkness… she could almost see it clearly. There was also a thick circle outside with some unknown words written inside, forming a disc centered on his head.
She couldn’t help but stifled a laugh, "Quite sacred."
This was already one of the entrances to the castle, two female students passed by, pointing and whispering, "What is this? Performance art?"
"Haha, so childish."
Mede’s handsome face instantly turned red and then pale. He suddenly turned his head and looked back.
The mark naturally twisted to the back along with him.
This time, not only the female students, but even Sylas started laughing.
Mede didn’t care about his own Water Lord anymore. He rushed up the stairs. There was a mirror floating on the wall, inside of which a violin samurai was floating. Basically, there was a mirror like this on each floor of the stairs. When students passed by, the violin samurai would angrily hit the reflection in the mirror with his bow, reprimanding the students for their inappropriate dressing.
Mede Sauran rushed to the front of the mirror at once. He supported the mirror with both hands and the violin samurai jumped up, angrily saying, "Your collar! Your hem! And your tie? What is behind you? When did this foolish and childish decoration become popular among students? This is absolutely against the school rules…"
Mede suddenly turned around and shouted from the stairs, "Sylas! What did you give me?!"
Sylas now felt that she was laughing too unladylike. She covered her mouth and laughed softly. Two female students asked her, "What is this exactly?"
She answered in a low voice, "Isn’t it funny?" Then she cleared her throat, "If you speak ill of Archmage Xerath again, I promise there will be even more vibrant things on your head, hmm? Inferior minions?"
The sound echoed faintly in the spacious hall. Students upstairs also came down, showing smiles when passing by Mede, and of course, there were whispers, even stopping to watch the follow-up.
The voice of the violin samurai came from behind, joining the flowing sound, "Oh, ah, very unique, leaving a deep impression. This is the ‘Dueling Law’! I haven’t seen a ‘Shame Mark’ in almost twenty years. Hmm, very beautiful."
The crowd’s worries deepened, "Shame Mark?"
"What is Dueling Law?"
