Chapter 142
Several people beside them showed a look of sudden realization, clearly this story was easy to believe.
"Um…thank you for your explanation. Well, gentlemen and ladies, please go back."
Eilan watched them return to their seats, smiled at Sylas, and leaned forward to ask, "Did you do it?"
Sylas felt Luna’s intense gaze and quickly shook her head, "But I really want to go, I have another class next period."
"I’m sorry for taking up your time, but this matter needs to be dealt with immediately. I will write a note to your next class teacher, okay?"
"Please resolve this matter quickly, it not only affects my attendance but also hinders my learning, ma’am."
"Ahaha," Eilan laughed, "That’s a very interesting response, you love learning. You remind me of a student I used to teach."
"Yes, ma’am, it’s quite a coincidence and an honor."
Eilan nodded happily and returned to the podium. She raised the attendance sheet in her hand and looked at it carefully, then called out loudly, "Please stay behind, students whose names I called."
Sauran stood grumpily on the side, watching the students who stayed behind. He felt like they were all good students with high grades. Then he realized that Eilan had called out twelve names according to their entrance exam scores, and among them were Sylas, Luna, and Caroline. But Mede’s score was not high enough to be in the top twelve of the class.
"As the head of academic affairs, I have seen many students who don’t like teachers and cause trouble in the classroom. It’s not a serious matter. Come on, stand up and apologize to Sauran, then write a reflection. That’s it. How about it?"
Sylas tried to step forward but was forced back by Luna’s gaze.
Luna whispered, "She’s lying! Don’t fall for it."
"What??? You want to let this go just like that??? This is serious physical harm! Look! I’m bleeding!" Sauran rushed forward and grabbed the collar of a tall and thin male student, saying angrily, "You top students all have a sense of superiority. Only in your first year of higher education, and you want to stand up for Xerath, huh?" He let go of the person and went to grab another one, still speaking fiercely, "Huh?!"
The student with curly hair said disgustedly, "It wasn’t me who did it!"
Then, he lunged towards Sylas.
Sylas, who had started as an apprentice, had never seen anyone behave so poorly in public. In Xerath’s education, the mages were always dignified and composed. She never imagined that a mage would grab someone’s collar and yell like this.
Xerath definitely wouldn’t, her embarrassment also had a sense of dignity. But her archmage was being criticized by this person…
Ridiculous, bizarre.
She changed her mind now, she decided not to get in trouble because of this person, it would be fun to tease him in secret.
Sauran was still trying to grab her and yell at her, she pushed away his hand with disgust, "Show some respect, please? Sir?"
Sauran’s expression twisted up close to her, his bulging eyes almost popping out scared her, "…Great, little girl, it’s you, isn’t it? I recognize that expression, do you dare to disrespect your teacher?"
No, you are not my teacher. She now understood how annoying it was to be touched by someone for no reason.
But Sauran rudely pushed her, and she stumbled back several steps.
In the short time she hadn’t regained her balance, a water balloon suddenly hit him in the face, smearing it all over, he sucked it into his nose, causing him to sneeze and cough, with hair sticking on his once handsome face, he awkwardly wiped it off with his already ragged clothes.
"It’s her! I’m sure it’s her! Eilan, did you see? She attacked me!"
"I’m sorry to remind you, but the students here can also testify. She couldn’t have cast any spells just now. You even disrupted her spellcasting balance. We can’t determine the source and we can’t accuse anyone."
"What did you say?" Sauran pushed Sylas aside and glared angrily at Eilan.
Eilan repeated herself.
After a stalemate, Sauran angrily said, "Cough, cough, cough… Just wait and see! You bunch of witches’ lapdogs, none of you will pass world history!"
"Unfortunately, Sauran, you can’t do this. Their grades depend on the final exam scores, and their regular grades will be above the passing mark. I’ll inform the examination committee about this."
"What? You’re going to indulge them? I mean, every single person?"
"Yes, I’m sorry to inform you that we can only let go of each and every one of them."
"Why? Aren’t you on my side??"
"The water ball appeared out of thin air. It may have come from someone, or it could be from a water lord, but everyone here has a water lord. It could even be an outsider, possibly hiding near the classroom." She pointed to the door and then to the window.
Luna quickly turned her head and glanced at Sylas.
Sauran exclaimed in disbelief, "What the heck! Can’t you feel the magic fluctuations?"
Eilan frowned in confusion and asked, "Why don’t you feel it yourself? There are only twenty-two people here, sir." She continued, "I have to make sure, Mr. Sauran, can you sense the source of that spell just now?"
Sauran didn’t answer. If Swis were here, he would most likely say that Sauran didn’t feel anything at all.
"Are you favoring a student who intends to harm the teacher, Dean Eilan? Just because you’re biased towards Xerath?"
"Oh, look at you. Xerath wasn’t even present. If you’re not satisfied with how I handled things, feel free to inform the investigation committee and complain to the administration. I can’t wait to defend myself. Now, let’s go, children. Sauran, my assistant will bring you a new robe. I suggest you sort out your list of enemies. Maybe, I mean, it’s very likely that these lovely students didn’t do this at all."
She watched as the twelve students walked out and quietly asked her assistant, who was approaching, "Was anyone outside just now?"
"There were a few students lingering, but it shouldn’t be them."
Luna curiously stayed behind to eavesdrop, but Eilan noticed her and shooed her away. Sylas had to rush to the next class and pulled her away quickly.
After walking a long way, Luna opened her eyes wide and asked her, "Is it really not you?"
Sylas innocently said, "Just now you said it wasn’t me, why are you asking like this now?"
"Then who else could it be? But it really doesn’t seem like you. You didn’t chant any spells. I saw you raise your hand, but it didn’t seem like a spell-casting gesture… Heavens, are you really a little fairy?"
Sylas smiled and said, "No, I’m not. Please don’t call me that, it’s too strange."
Luna ran around next to her, saying, "I never expected you to be a fan of Xerath too!"
"’Fan’?"
"Admirer, lover, pursuer."
Sylas seemed to understand and nodded.
"I thought you didn’t like anything besides studying."
"Why? I have many things that I like."
"You look sad all the time."
Sylas frowned and said to her roommate, "I smile every day." She smiled a little as she spoke.
"Goodbye, goodbye. It’s too forced, just stay like this." Luna pulled down the corner of her mouth.
"Oh."
Luna rested her hands behind her head, her backpack hanging from her hand. She sighed with relief and said, "I never expected you to be such a big fan of hers, so passionate! Even I am not as enthusiastic as you…"
"Passionate?" Basically, it was her duty to defend her lord’s reputation. The winds around her were restless, so whenever she spoke in a slightly harsh tone, they would come rushing in.
"You’re even willing to fight Sauran for Xerath, not caring about the consequences. I don’t have that level of dedication."
Sylas shyly lowered her head and smiled, "It’s what I should do."
"Oh!" Luna held her chest and made a face of discomfort.
The two of them walked on the floating stone staircase between the two towers, with students hurriedly passing by. Just like them, the students were jumping on each stone step attentively. After a while of silence, Luna couldn’t help but ask, "So, who is it really? If it’s not you."
"Hmm… I don’t know, maybe it’s the headmistress?" Sylas casually replied, not telling the truth.
Luna nodded vigorously in agreement, "The headmistress does have such power. I heard she can perform spells just by writing. And she’s a patrol officer, no one has seen her casting spells outside the classroom. Indeed, she came too quickly, as if prepared."
"Hmm, and Sauran also said, ‘You’re favoring these people just because you have a crush on Xerath’? So, she’s also one of Xerath’s fans, for sure!"
"I think Sauran also believes that. If it’s not someone inside the classroom, then it must be someone outside, and if it’s not a student, it must be a teacher."
"Makes sense, great! It’s not just us who dislikes Sauran."
Sylas secretly chuckled. Today was the happiest day for Sylas since Xerath left her alone at Star Song Castle without a word.
This happiness lasted until the evening, after returning from class. Sylas spread out a piece of paper and wrote a letter to Xerath under the glow of the Illumination Spell’s light orb.
She had already written three letters, but Xerath had not replied. This made her very anxious, and she even worried about Shamodial’s health for a while. After calming down, she realized that maybe things weren’t as complicated as she thought.
It was just her overstepping boundaries that annoyed Xerath, causing her to completely lose her interest in writing letters.
But what could she do? She didn’t have Aimekotes’ runestone, so she couldn’t secretly run back herself. Figuring out how to pass the time without Xerath became a very difficult problem to solve.
"Who are you writing the letter to…" Luna asked Sylas, leaning on the chair, but not daring to get too close or peek, afraid of being trapped in the water bubble again. Leunen stood behind Sylas, carefully watching Luna.
"To someone… who won’t reply."
"She will reply, my lady."
Sylas sneered, "Who knows. Thank you for today."
"Serving you is my honor," replied Leunen from behind her, the water tentacles on his head swaying back and forth. It was the wicked water lord in history class who quietly threw the water bubble at this jerk’s face, not under Sylas’s orders, so she didn’t make any magic movements. It seemed like every elemental creature that had contact with Xerath felt honored to do something for her.
Unfortunately, the water lord had lost most of its power after arriving in the mortal realm, so its actions were just tricks and couldn’t cause any significant harm. It couldn’t even freeze on its own.
This letter took over two weeks to write, only writing happy things, just like the previous one, trying not to show any dissatisfaction, she didn’t ask a single word about why Xerath left her or if she can still see Xerath after this semester, in the letter she pretended to be like a Titus as much as possible.
Even though she finished writing, she folded the letter eagerly and put it into an envelope, ran downstairs and threw it into the mailbox, tomorrow the postman will let the homing pigeons carry these family letters and fly to the post offices in major cities.
