Chapter 92: The World-weary Wang Chao And The Confused Luo Ji
“Five days already!”
Wang Chao, his face weary, had been ambushing with his subordinates in the outer forest for five days.
“Damn it!”
“Don’t these people in the tribe need to go out hunting?”
“Do they live on air or something?!”
Wang Chao was almost in tears.
Why was staking out so exhausting?
The jerky they brought as military rations was all gone.
His patience was rapidly dwindling with the consumed jerky.
Meanwhile, Luo Ji, who had been cooped up inside the Mirror Tribe, looked utterly innocent.
While Wang Chao wondered what he was doing and if he could survive purely on air, Luo Ji was also wondering where Wang Chao had gone.
What about the promised invasion?
Why was there no sign of anyone?
Then, Luo Ji began to wonder, and at the same time… well, farming, in the truest sense of the word.
After all, the season had shifted to spring.
Ice and snow melted, and all things revived.
His several acres of land in the tribe were due to be planted.
So, Luo Ji spent most of these past few days on those farmlands.
Whenever he had free time, he would teach the tribal children to read and then continuously assign them homework.
Of course, his recent almost deranged behavior had slightly subsided because he felt that the children were looking at him as if he were a class enemy.
If this continued, some traitors might emerge from them.
While assigning homework was satisfying, he still had to consider the future of the tribe.
But to be honest, being a teacher was a great profession.
He should have studied at a normal university back then.
It was the scholarship from Z University that blinded him, and he did not even get it in the end.
And so, another two days passed.
“Haha, hahahaha…”
A crazed laugh escaped Wang Chao’s lips.
His eyes, bloodshot and with heavy dark circles, made him look almost ethereal.
At this point, no one would be surprised if he dropped dead the next second.
His mind had completely exploded.
Having been hungry for almost two days, his stomach was now growling.
In about an hour, seven days would have passed, yet no one from the tribe had come out!
He immediately stood up from the squatting bush, but due to anemia from prolonged hunger, he almost fell to the ground.
“Damn it! I’m not waiting anymore!”
“Leader, what do we do next?”
Hungry and exhausted, the tribal warriors who had been ambushing with Wang Chao had clearly lost patience long ago.
“In another hour, we retreat!”
After saying this, Wang Chao glared fiercely at the subordinate who had spoken.
Clearly, he was in an abysmal mood.
He could not win, and the enemy would not come out.
What was the point of staying here?
It was simply torturing himself.
He admits defeat!
But from another perspective, if his ambush had succeeded and he had run off after gaining an advantage, getting a bronze treasure chest in return, what if Luo Ji remembered him later?
Was that advantage so easily gained?
Looking at the scale of their tribal camp, it was almost at the level of a city.
Among bronze-tier players, it was probably just as formidable.
If he was targeted by a player clearly stronger than him, and they invaded him every day, would he even have a life anymore?
After thinking this, Wang Chao’s mood immediately improved, and his complexion also brightened.
This trip of his could be considered as money spent for peace of mind.
With this thought, Wang Chao was about to lead his men away when suddenly, in the darkness, pairs of green glowing eyes lit up!
Before he could even react, Wang Chao felt a black shadow flash before his eyes.
The subordinate standing beside him was immediately tackled heavily to the ground.
“Ahhhhh!!!”
Then, accompanied by a series of shrill screams, hot blood splattered directly onto his face.
“Hyenas! There are hyenas!!”
Barely able to make out the attackers’ true forms by the faint moonlight, Wang Chao and his group let out desperate cries.
Hungry themselves, in this dim forest environment, they encountered a pack of equally hungry hyenas.
This predicament was enough to make anyone despair.
At the same time, on the sentinel post of the Mirror Tribe in the distance, one of the sentinels on duty frowned, seemingly sensing something as he peered into the dark forest in the distance.
Then he asked another sentinel nearby.
:Hey, did you hear anything?”
“Hear anything?”
The drowsy sentinel yawned as he spoke, then slowly continued.
“What kind of sound?”
“It sounds like human screams, or maybe hyenas…”
The sentinel who claimed to have heard something sounded uncertain.
“It’s coming from the forest.”
“From the forest?”
The drowsy sentinel turned to look in the direction of the forest.
“The wind is strong tonight, it howls when it blows through the forest.”
“You must have heard wrong, right?”
“Besides, how dangerous is the forest after dark?”
“Who’s tired of living to run over there?”
Hearing his companion say that, the sentinel thought for a moment, and it did seem to make sense.
So, he nodded.
“Probably.”
“Alright, nothing to worry about.”
As if sensing the lingering worry on his companion’s face, the drowsy sentinel perked up a bit and spoke again.
“Look at this city wall, this height!”
“Even if there are hyenas or enemies, what then?”
“Can they jump over it?”
“You’re just too tired.”
“It’ll be time for the shift change soon anyway.”
“Just go back and get a good sleep then…”
A small interlude.
Approximately thirty minutes later, a series of system notifications suddenly sounded in Luo Ji’s mind.
[System Notification: Invasion battle ended. Evaluating results, please wait…]
[System Notification: Evaluation results: Defending player ‘Luo Ji’ suffered zero combat losses in this battle. Invading player ‘Wang Chao’ completely annihilated!]
[System Notification: Congratulations to player ‘Luo Ji’ for achieving a perfect victory]
[System Notification: Congratulations to player ‘Luo Ji’ for achieving his first victory. Reward doubled]
[System Notification: Congratulations to player ‘Luo Ji’ for obtaining the item ‘Gold Chest x2.’]
A series of system notifications in his mind forcibly woke Luo Ji, who was sleeping soundly.
And what was most frustrating was that this situation left him utterly baffled.
“Huh? I won?”
Luo Ji, who had been solely focused on farming for these seven days and had no idea what had happened, was completely dumbfounded, even experiencing severe consecutive short circuits in his brain, unable to process it.
“Eh?!!!!”
