Chapter 3: The Settlement

Luo Ji walked and chatted with the old barbarian man.

After all, the old man seemed to know the most, and Luo Ji wanted to learn more about this era.

However, to Luo Ji’s dismay, the useful information was limited.

Counting it up, there were only two things.

One was about their original home.

There were other small tribes nearby, but those tribes had more warriors than they did.

So, after winter began, due to food scarcity, the other tribes would often come to plunder their food, causing many in their tribe to starve to death this winter.

Another was the issue of wild beasts.

Although most animals were hibernating, there were still fierce wolves looking for food.

Encountering a hungry wolf in the wild would definitely be a nightmare.

Undoubtedly, both the hungry wolves and the natives from the other small tribes were threats to the current Luo Ji, and quite significant ones at that.

There were no vehicles in this era. This meant that from the time the blizzard destroyed their tribe until now, they had walked for 5 days.

This information suggested that their current location might not be particularly far from their original tribe.

Considering the area covered by the blizzard, it was unlikely that the other tribes close to them were unaffected.

If the natives from those other tribes also left their original homes like they did, and they happened to run into each other, Luo Ji wasn’t so conceited as to think that they would obediently become his followers just because he projected an aura of dominance.

It was more likely that they would fight fiercely for food resources and new places to live.

And if a fight really broke out, as the old barbarian man had just said, those barbarians had relied on their numbers to bully them before.

Could they win now?

“Oh, this is worrying me to death…”

Thinking of this, Luo Ji couldn’t help but sigh.

His mood, which had just improved, became troubled again.

Being a tribal chief these days wasn’t so easy!

Just as Luo Ji was agonizing over the tribe’s development, the young barbarian man walking ahead suddenly shouted happily.

“Chief, we’re here.”

Following the sound, the worried Luo Ji subconsciously looked up.

After passing through the small woods in front of him, a large lake immediately came into view.

Before he could say anything, the system’s voice suddenly rang out in his mind…

[System notification: Congratulations to player ‘Luo Ji’ for discovering a 2-star natural wonder, ‘Mirror Lake’. You have gained 1,000 civilization points.]

“Huh?!”

Luo Ji was surprised.

Just before, he was a penniless newcomer with no civilization points, and now, after walking for a while, 1,000 civilization points just landed on him?

This sudden little surprise instantly turned Luo Ji’s mood from gloomy to cloudy.

At the same time, many thoughts filled his mind.

“Natural wonder? This exists in the game too. Following this logic, if I build a new tribe next to this Mirror Lake, will there be some kind of bonus effect?”

With a nervous and expectant heart, Luo Ji quickly jogged a few steps closer to this natural wonder.

He had to admit, a lake that could be called a natural wonder was truly spectacular. Although the lake surface was frozen due to the cold winter, it did not diminish the impact the massive lake had on Luo Ji.

At the same time, as Luo Ji approached, something like a panel window popped up in front of him.

It showed the following information…

[Name: Mirror Lake

Type: Freshwater lake, Natural Wonder

Level: ★★

Resources: Freshwater resources, Fish resources

Effect: If you settle around Mirror Lake, you will gain a fixed 100 civilization points every day, and ‘Fishery’ will have a 20% bonus.]

Taking a deep breath, Luo Ji’s breathing quickened subtly.

Regardless of the use of the 20% fishery bonus, the freshwater and fish resources in Mirror Lake alone were enough to make him determined to set this as their new settlement.

Not to mention the fixed 100 civilization points he could get every day.

“We’ll make this our new settlement!”

Since the chief had spoken, the others naturally had no objections.

Expressions of relief appeared on all their faces.

These past few days of displacement had left them mentally and physically exhausted.

Now that they had finally found a new place to live, everyone was clearly relieved.

“All right, the men go and collect some branches and stones from around here. The women clear the snow off the ground.”

The old barbarian man habitually started directing everyone to work.

This made Luo Ji standing next to him feel a bit awkward.

Okay, he had made another basic mistake.

In a game, you would naturally just click the mouse and the tribe would be built.

But now he was in a place similar to another world!

It wasn’t something that would just happen by saying it, so he had to direct everyone to build it themselves!

He quietly reflected for a while.

Looking at his busy tribal members, it didn’t seem right for him, the chief, to be idle.

So he decided to find something for himself to do.

With this thought, his gaze fell directly on the frozen surface of Mirror Lake.

He was clearly thinking about the freshwater and fish, especially since he planned to use fish as food.

Returning to the lake edge, Luo Ji squatted down and first knocked on the frozen lake surface with his hand.

The sound was just like knocking on a wall, and he instantly felt the thickness of the ice.

“Wow, I need to find a bigger stone to break this ice…”

Just as he was muttering this, the old barbarian man, looking puzzled, walked over leaning on his branch cane.

“Chief, what are you doing?”

“Oh, you’ve come at the right time. Tell someone to find a bigger stone…”

As he spoke, Luo Ji gestured with his hand to show the size of the stone.

“We’ll break open this ice later and see if we can get some fish to eat.”

“Chief, what is fish? Can it be eaten?”

If the old barbarian man could understand the first half of Luo Ji’s sentence, the second half completely confused him.

He opened his mouth and asked two questions in a row.

Facing these continuous questions, Luo Ji was clearly stunned.

He thought to himself.

“No way? Is this era so primitive that they don’t even know about fish?”

Then, as if realizing something, Luo Ji immediately remembered the wooden clubs in the hands of the four barbarian warriors.

They were still using wooden clubs, not stone spears…

Alright, he finally understood the situation.

This world was really quite primitive!

According to this situation, catching fish would also be a problem.

In this frozen Mirror Lake, with only one opening smashed in the ice, it was clear that they couldn’t catch fish with those few wooden clubs…

The primitiveness of this era exceeded his expectations.

To be precise, they hadn’t even entered the Stone Age yet.

However, Luo Ji was a patient person.

After organizing the necessary items in his mind, he slowly began to speak.

“Anyway, first find a large stone that can break open this lake surface. At the same time, find some stones with sharp edges or a pointed end. Oh, and also tree vines, get more of the thin, strong ones…”

Since Luo Ji, the chief, had spoken, the tribal members naturally obeyed.

After watching the young people go to collect the things he needed, Luo Ji turned to look at the old barbarian man who was still standing there.

“If things go smoothly, you’ll know what fish is later.”

Although the old barbarian man was full of doubts about this, he didn’t ask any more questions.

It seemed that Luo Ji’s status as chief was quite effective.
