Chapter 36: Cleansing The E-District Legion Headquarters
William Duville had rushed out with a single goal: to summon the other powerful individuals within the legion headquarters to launch a joint attack against Gu Ran.
Even if they couldn’t kill him, they at least needed to drive him off temporarily.
Soon, armed soldiers flooded in, followed by other A- and B-rank ability users who had rushed over because they’d heard the sounds coming from General Duville’s office. This alarmed them enough to not delay.
For some ability users, bullets could still cause damage, but at the A-rank level, firearms were practically ineffective. Thus, William Duville ordered the regular soldiers to withdraw, leaving only B-rank and higher ability users.
“So, you want to kill me? But you’re alone. Here, I am the undisputed ruler. No one can take my life here unless they’re an S-rank ability user,” William Duville said, his bear-like eyes fixed on Gu Ran. “Leave now, and I’ll let this go.”
Of course, this was just Duville’s stalling tactic since he had no immediate way to restrain Gu Ran. Soon he’d contact his family to investigate Gu Ran and send top-level assassins after him.
Gu Ran swept his gaze around the room. With the regular soldiers gone, only the officers remained—more than twenty of them, showcasing just how many strong individuals were at the legion headquarters. This was enough to make any ordinary A-rank ability user never return if they ventured here.
Gu Ran didn’t bother talking to them. The moment he’d seen the boys and girls they’d abducted, he knew the leadership here was utterly corrupt. As far as he was concerned, there wasn’t a single innocent person among them, any innocent officers would have left by now. His only objective was simple—send them to their deaths.
Suddenly, a space rift the size of a millstone slashed toward the group of officers like a blade. Several B-rank officers were instantly sliced in half, and the rest scattered in panic.
Initially, they dismissed this seemingly unremarkable youth, thinking General Duville was overreacting. But now they saw he was an extraordinarily powerful and rare spatial ability user, killing several of them with a single move like it was nothing.
“Watch out! He’s an A-rank spatial ability user!” the officers shouted, warning each other.
William Duville squinted at Gu Ran. He hadn’t expected this boy to really have the guts to face over twenty powerful enemies.
“They were caught off guard by your ability just now,” Duville said. “It won’t be so easy for you to kill them next time.”
With the reinforcements he’d been waiting for now in place, William Duville went on the offensive. From all directions, more attackers advanced on Gu Ran, leaving him no escape, not even from above.
But the next moment, they all slowed down. It wasn’t voluntary—something seemed to drag their bodies into sluggishness, as if they were all trapped in thick, clinging mud. A distorted space enveloped them.
Sensing something was amiss, William Duville started retreating, trying to escape this strange restraining force. But Gu Ran had his eyes on him, so before Duville could retreat far, a massive spatial slash targeted him.
With a roar, William Duville unleashed his full potential, narrowly managing to break free from the restraint and dodge the attack.
Gu Ran frowned slightly. “Looks like you’re a bit tougher than I expected.”
“But I’ve already spent enough time here, I’d better speed things up. Otherwise, half an hour might not be enough.”
Before Duville could fully grasp his narrow escape, an even stronger restraining force took hold of him. A spatial rift opened right in front of him and expanded, slicing his body in two.
A close-range spatial slash!
Even in death, William Duville stared in disbelief, his eyes wide with confusion. He never thought he would die so easily.
With Duville, the strongest of them, dealt with, Gu Ran turned to eliminate the remaining officers trapped in his “stagnation space”. They were like insects caught in a spider’s web, utterly powerless.
A scream suddenly pierced the silence. A female officer stood, face drained of color as she stared at the bodies strewn across the floor. After injecting herself with an antidote, she’d come out, hoping to witness Gu Ran’s death and satisfy her grudge. Instead, she was met with this horrifying sight, which shattered her composure.
“Please, don’t kill me!” she stammered, lips trembling. “I’ll do anything you want! Is it my body you want? I… I’ll let you do whatever you want with me. I know lots of tricks—you’ll definitely like them!”
Gu Ran smiled warmly as he looked at her. “I was going to come find you, but here you are, saving me the trouble. So, the poison’s cleared up, then?”
The female officer, misinterpreting his smile, perked up. “Yes, it’s gone. Do you… want to do it now? Maybe we should go to a room, this place… it’s a bit scary.”
“Oh, the poison’s resolved? Good.”
In the next instant, the female officer’s body was split in two by a spatial slash, just like the others.
“When the poison cleared, you probably thought you’d miraculously survived. Thought you were incredibly lucky, didn’t you?” Gu Ran murmured as he looked at her lifeless body, his smile fading.
“Those boys and girls you targeted once felt the same way.”
