Chapter 26: Spatial Cage! Gu Ran Is Extremely Talented!
The operators in the control room watched Gu Ran cautiously as he stepped through the opened portal, despite him appearing to be just a harmless young boy. However, the portal itself made it clear to everyone that this boy was far from ordinary.
Gu Ran glanced around the room. There were about a dozen people inside, half of whom were officers who seemed quite strong, while the other half appeared to be soldiers, likely the artillery operators of the control room.
Gu Ran had researched the city defense cannons and had some understanding of them.
The city defense cannons had two modes of attack. One involved firing physical shells, much like a regular cannon. This method required specially made shells, and the projectiles followed a curved trajectory, enabling them to hit distant targets even when the cannon was positioned in low ground.
The other mode used starstones for charging and fired energy beams. This method had a greater destructive power than physical shells, but the energy beams traveled in a straight line, like light, making them unsuitable for low-ground deployment. They required a very high platform, which made them vulnerable to intelligent enemies.
Such cannons needed a specialized control room and highly educated artillery operators to be effectively utilized.
Typically, these artillery operators, especially the skilled veterans, were highly sought after by the military. The fact that Kelly Duville executed one of his artillery operators on the spot, just for hesitating and not outright refusing him, clearly showed that he was desperate.
Gu Ran didn’t waste time speaking to these people—his target wasn’t them.
He acted swiftly, sending a spatial rift to envelop Kelly Duver.
Kelly Duville was shocked—this boy was truly a spatial ability user!
He had hoped that the other party merely possessed some kind of artifact that could open portals, but if he really was a spatial ability user, that would be trouble.
Facing a spatial ability user, his wind-based abilities wouldn’t allow him to escape—the speed advantage was completely negated.
However, Kelly Duville wasn’t someone who could be easily defeated; otherwise, he wouldn’t have risked everything to try and level District D32.
With determination, he decided to fight with all he had.
So what if the opponent was a spatial ability user?
At such a young age, he probably hadn’t fully developed his powers yet. His ability core might be as small as a peanut.
Even though I’m a wind ability user, I have the upper hand when it comes to proficiency in using my abilities!
In an instant, he drew his pistol and fired at Gu Ran, simultaneously creating two pale green wind blades that flew towards Gu Ran from both sides.
After executing this series of actions, he immediately retreated, trying to avoid the spatial rift coming towards him, while shouting, “Catch him for me!”
Gu Ran didn’t dodge. Instead, a space rift appeared in front of him like a door, absorbing all of Kelly Duver’s attacks without causing the slightest ripple.
This is the terrifying aspect of spatial ability users. As long as your attack doesn’t exceed the spatial limit and cannot tear through space, a single portal can transport all of your ranged attacks to some unknown spatial coordinates.
Kelly Duville, after retreating, was shocked to find himself suddenly moving forward.
Wasn’t I stepping backward?
Why is my body moving forward?
“This is a technique I recently developed. I call it the “Spatial Cage”, Gu Ran said calmly.
Everyone in the control room and those watching outside on the light screen saw it clearly.
Gu Ran’s so-called “Spatial Cage” was simply stacking multiple portals together, with each portal’s destination being the next portal in the sequence. As soon as Kelly Duville exited one portal, he was immediately transported to the next.
As a result, Kelly Duville felt his feet were constantly moving backward, but his body was continuously propelled forward due to the chain of portals.
…
Outside the light screen.
“So this idiot general wanted to level the entire D32 District, killing everyone. I have to say, he’s truly a vicious product of a prominent family.”
“This guy totally deserves to die. If I were there, I’d want to kill him myself.”
This wasn’t just talk. Many of the onlookers were martial arts grandmasters or S-class ability users, standing at the pinnacle of human power in the Alliance. Although they wouldn’t underestimate the Duville family, killing a mere “genius” descendant wouldn’t be much more than forming a grudge—the Duville family wouldn’t be able to do much against them.
“So spatial ability users have a move like this, completely toying with their enemies. As long as you can’t tear through space, aren’t you permanently trapped, bound by the Spatial Cage?”
“Only those who can tear through space—mostly martial arts Jindan masters and S-class ability users—can break free. If all spatial ability users have this technique, doesn’t that make them invincible below the level of Jindan masters and S-class ability users?”
Those who were A-class ability users or martial arts practitioners focused on Gu Ran’s overwhelming power. They were both shocked and frightened by his “Spatial Cage.” However, they breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Gu Qingqing, who was bound in the water prison.
Although spatial abilities were powerful, they were fortunate that this world only had one spatial ability user, and he had already reached S-class. Given that he was already stronger than them, they had no reason to resent him.
Gu Qingqing glanced at them, understanding their thoughts, and said calmly, “Do you think it’s easy to use the ‘Spatial Cage’? Spatial ability users have to re-anchor the coordinates each time they use a portal and accurately determine the location. Just one portal takes a lot of effort. Stacking so many portals together requires an extremely high level of multitasking.”
“Based on his demonstrated abilities, he’s controlling at least five different portals right now, multitasking at five levels—something most people could never achieve.”
Everyone suddenly understood. No wonder they hadn’t heard of other spatial ability users in history using such a technique. It turns out that, besides the spatial ability itself, this technique required an extraordinary multitasking ability.
There was one thing Gu Qingqing didn’t mention: Gu Ran was multitasking at five levels with ease, indicating that he hadn’t even come close to using his full strength.
This made Gu Qingqing even more puzzled about the events of the past. With such a high level of talent and now such incredible power, what had caused Gu Ran to lose his ability?
Could it be that he refused to accept a teacher and stayed behind with me because he wanted to carve out his own path as a strong person?
And then, while pursuing his own path to strength, he somehow lost his ability core?
Many geniuses have their own mindset, unwilling to follow in others’ footsteps, desiring to forge their own path to power.
“If you hadn’t lost your spatial ability, you would’ve surpassed the teacher, wouldn’t you?” Gu Qingqing thought.
With Gu Ran’s extraordinary talent, Gu Qingqing believed that even if he explored on his own, given time, he would have definitely surpassed his teacher in the field of spatial abilities.
Author’s Note: P.S. I wrote it earlier today. Did I write something so bad that my lovely readers left? There are so few recommendation votes today. I feel so disappointed o(╥﹏╥)o
