Chapter 19: Hide Well, Sister. I Will Go Take Out The Trash
The mother and daughter, along with the ferocious beasts behind them, were killed by the bald man. The other bounty hunters glanced at the scene, their expressions unchanged, and continued to another area to clear out the beasts.
The city defense troops didn’t even look back, heading to other locations instead.
In the midst of a beast tide like this, the mother and daughter were bound to die anyway. Compared to such trivial matters, clearing out the beasts was a far more important task.
The bald man didn’t think much of it either. Without pausing, he continued slaughtering the beasts ahead.
It was as if those who died were not two people, but two wildflowers by the roadside.
…
Outside the light screen.
Seeing this scene, the onlookers were somewhat speechless.
They prided themselves on being the righteous coalition and naturally could not endorse such behavior.
Nowadays, protecting the people of the slum areas had become one of the political correct stances of the Human Alliance. Anyone who dared to behave like the bald man would be brought before the Court of Justice.
From their moral perspective, even though they looked down on the slum areas, they were still very disgusted by the bald man’s behavior.
“Bounty hunters are just a bunch of profit-driven scoundrels. They don’t care about the law, or the lives of ordinary people, let alone those in the slums.”
“Perhaps, in his eyes, that mother and daughter’s lives were far less important than his own bounty.”
“This must be the reason why the tyrant abolished the Bounty Hunter Association. I have to admit, in this matter, I agree with the tyrant. The Bounty Hunter Association indeed deserved to be abolished.”
“Thankfully, we now have the Hero Association. Thanks to the Hero Association, many people have been saved during recent beast tides.”
…
Inside the light screen.
Gu Ran stood still, holding his sister, staring blankly in the direction of the bald man.
He had seen the mother and daughter earlier, but he thought that there were so many people in that direction that he didn’t need to act to save them.
He never expected that not only did the bald man not save them, but he also killed them like they were obstacles in his way.
“I could have saved you,” Gu Ran murmured.
The fear and shock on the mother and daughter’s faces before they died kept surfacing in his mind, followed by the scene of his parents’ death.
“Why? Why did this happen?”
A look of confusion appeared on Gu Ran’s face.
He didn’t understand why these people would treat others like this. Aren’t we all human beings?
Shouldn’t humans help each other in the face of a disaster like the beast tide?
Why are they killing each other in front of the beasts?
Even the beasts in front of them wouldn’t do such a thing, so why do humans do it so easily?
Moreover, among them is the military, representing the government. Isn’t the government supposed to care for its people? Shouldn’t the military protect the people?
“Brother, what’s wrong?” His sister carefully poked her head out from his embrace.
“Qingqing, are you afraid of getting dirty?” Gu Ran asked, stroking his sister’s head.
“Not at all.”
“Then, Qingqing, are you afraid of the beasts?”
“No, as long as you’re with me, I’m not afraid of anything!” his sister answered firmly.
Hearing her response, Gu Ran put his sister down.
Roar!
A lion-like beast suddenly lunged at them.
But in the next moment, its roar abruptly stopped.
Dozens of space rifts, as large as plates, sliced through it like flying disks, cutting its body into dozens of pieces.
However, the beasts behind it were not deterred. They were unafraid of death!
But even though their bodies were strong, they couldn’t resist the power of space rifts. In less than a minute, the dozens of beasts surrounding them were reduced to bloody pulp, just like the lion-like beast before them.
Blood sprayed onto Gu Ran and his sister.
Although his sister’s eyes revealed fear, and her body trembled slightly, she still tightly held her brother’s hand without making a sound.
Gu Ran didn’t want his sister to witness such a bloody scene. He wanted her to stay far away from danger, away from such killing, to grow up healthy and happy. But the mother and daughter’s death just reminded him.
This world is so cruel. If he shelters his sister under his wing and she doesn’t witness the harshness of the world, is that really good for her?
Gu Ran wiped the beast blood off his sister’s face and smiled, “You did very well.”
“I… I didn’t disappoint you, did I?” His sister’s voice trembled a bit, but she looked at Gu Ran with hopeful eyes.
“Of course, you didn’t disappoint me.” Gu Ran hugged her tightly.
Then, a space portal enveloped the two of them.
“Brother, where is this?” His sister wrinkled her nose as she looked at the dark, damp, and smelly environment in front of her.
“This is a sewer.” Gu Ran took out a small lamp and turned it on.
The light instantly illuminated the surrounding environment, revealing a dirty and stinky sewer.
Gu Ran handed the small lamp to his sister, “Hold onto this, and wait for me here. I’ll be back to pick you up before the lamp goes out.”
“Okay, brother, I promise I won’t wander off!”
Although living a clean and comfortable life with Gu Ran, suddenly being in the sewer made his sister extremely uncomfortable. But she didn’t say anything willful. Instead, she nodded her head, agreeing to his request to not worry him.
But in the end, she couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity, “Brother, what are you going to do?”
“There’s something very important I need to do. You hide here, and I’ll go… clean up some ‘trash.’”
Gu Ran tore open a space rift, creating a portal, and stepped through it.
…
The bald man continued his killing spree, slashing the beasts with his blade in a frenzy.
“Haha, it’s been so long since I’ve had such a blast! Die, die, die!”
“No wonder this weapon, forged by a master, is called a divine tool. Whether cutting through people or beasts, it’s like slicing through tofu, without any resistance.”
At this moment, the bald man was already covered in blood, staining most of his body red.
The corpses of beasts were piled up around him, and he was dancing wildly with his knife, as if a demon god was in the world, fierce and inviolable.
Suddenly, a space crack appeared in front of him, and then a young man walked out of the space crack.
“Who are you?”
The bald man said with a little vigilance.
“The one who killed you.”
Gu Ran walked out of the portal with a hint of coldness on his face.
The bald man raised his sword and said, “Haha, there are so many people who want to kill me, you can’t even get a chance to do so!”
Author’s Note: P.S. I have been writing until after midnight without realizing it… Today, the poor author is going crazy because there are bushes outside the window and it has been raining for the past few days. Tonight, there are many small flying insects on the seat in front of the computer. I don’t know what they are called, but they are disgusting to look at. They will fly into the collar and climb onto the back. The poor author spent a long time just wrapping these small flying insects with tissues and throwing them into the trash can. The trash can is full of used tissues. I really want to use insecticide to treat them, but I am afraid that the table and the bottom of the table will be full of “spectacular”. So, facing the author who has to write and update for readers even if he is harassed by small flying insects, won’t you vote for him? Manual heart.
Translator’s Note: I feel that I should have added the Original Author’s Comments from previous Chapters, but starting this Chapter onwards.
