Chapter 64: Kindred Conflicts
Li Hui had very few spirit talismans left, but he hadn’t used the Blood Ignition Talismans yet.
These talismans were not for casual use; even with the enhancement of the silver snake bracelet, using them at the six-pattern level had considerable side effects, and he didn’t know how many pills he would need to recover afterwards.
The silver snake bracelet had just provided a boost, likely elevating him to the seven-pattern level without issue.
Although Li Hui had only glanced inside the treasury gate, he clearly understood the situation. In a moment of danger, Jin Mingyang had used Zheng Tianxiang to fend off the scorpion needle attacks, then hidden inside a black coffin, kissing the corpse within.
Zhang Tianhua was something else; he shrank down to the size of a baby, using a remarkable skill to squeeze into a vessel that resembled a water bottle.
From the traces in the treasury, it was evident that neither side had been peacefully coexisting but had engaged in fierce combat. Li Hui was generous! He sent out ten Blood Ignition Talismans, especially to enjoy the silver snake bracelet’s enhancement for free.
“Roar…”
“Roar…”
Strange sounds echoed from the treasury, unlike any human voice.
Li Hui thought to himself, “I’m so clever! They might have artifacts on them to defend against attack-type spirit talismans, but I’m kindly enhancing them to make them formidable; they shouldn’t resist too much.”
At that moment, Jin Mingyang and Zhang Tianhua, filled with fervor and nearly losing their minds, burst out of the coffin and the bottle.
They each thought the other was to blame and attacked simultaneously. The effects of the Blood Ignition Talismans made their strikes incredibly fierce.
These two were not ordinary; the instant they struck, they realized they were both in a state of fervor and passion, but it was too late to hold back, so they fought one quick blow after another.
After fifteen exchanges, Zhang Tianhua gained the upper hand, his eyes brightening as he reached for Jin Mingyang’s bag of treasures clipped to his waist.
“How bold!” Jin Mingyang shouted, the sounds of “crackling” erupting from his body as his cultivation soared, instantly rising from the Spirit Motion stage to the mid-Gather Spirit stage, with intricate light patterns weaving all over him and swirling spiritual energy creating a skeletal hand behind him.
“Mid-Gather Spirit!” Zhang Tianhua screamed, now hesitant to seize the bag of treasures. He waved his hands, casting two rare gray spirit talismans and flew backward, rushing for the exit.
The two gray spirit talismans blocked Jin Mingyang for five moments, thickening the air to an unusual degree. Despite his full-force effort, he could not break through, driving him into a furious rage as Zhang Tianhua escaped.
Li Hui waited just outside! The nine-patterned anomaly Spirit Sense Talisman was impressive; he observed the entire scene in the treasury clearly.
When he saw Jin Mingyang suddenly burst forth, revealing his mid-Gather Spirit strength, he felt both shock and caution. But seeing Zhang Tianhua fleeing towards the exit, how could he miss this opportunity? The Cloud-Brush Dragon Claw Technique was ready, sweeping in to grasp a bag of treasures.
“Damn it, it’s you!” Zhang Tianhua roared angrily as he reached for his waist. Most of the good items in the treasury had been taken by Jin Mingyang, and he had only secretly collected scraps, stashing everything in this bag of treasures. Now, Li Hui had took it — how could he not be furious?
“Five girls have gone missing in the city; did you do it?” Li Hui demanded, holding up a nine-patterned Blood Ignition Talismans, pointing it towards Zhang Tianhua.
If this talisman activated, it wouldn’t just be a simple case of mutual injuries. Jin Mingyang, arriving at that moment, was momentarily taken aback and stared intently at the talisman, his golden pupils narrowing, refraining from making any rash moves.
“Junior brother, let’s talk this out. You know I only have simple hobbies — finding a few girls to enjoy, after all, a night as husband and wife brings fondness for a hundred days. No need to kill to silence.” Zhang Tianhua cautiously stepped back, genuinely afraid of Li Hui. He thought to himself, “Where did this kid get a nine-patterned Blood Ignition Talisman? What the heck, could the rumors of the Hidden Sky Sect’s secret stronghold being robbed by him be true?”
“Not you?” Li Hui had heard tales from a little beggar, thinking Zhang Tianhua was involved in the girls’ disappearance. However, the Spirit Sense Talisman on his forehead provided a gut feeling that Zhang Tianhua wasn’t lying, and that Gao Yuhu had appeared before; this incident must have greater implications.
Jin Mingyang shook off the constraints to restore his cultivation, now capable of wielding high-level artifacts. He pulled out a copper ring cast with a flying bird, weighing it in his hand as he looked at the two, saying, “You’re still in the mood to ask useless questions; next year today will be your anniversary of death. Being buried in the Guanglu Pavilion treasury will be your good fortune.”
Li Hui calmly replied, “Brother Jin, do you know what’s happening outside? The Chief Steward of the outer sect, Jin Buduan, deployed a sect decree, utilizing the Ghost River Shattering Great Formation to merge the twelve giant ghosts. However, the King of the White Sea’s ferocity is intense, and we should join forces rather than fight against each other.”
“Uncle is here?” Jin Mingyang’s heart fluttered as he recalled that the Ghost River Shattering Great Formation was assigned to him by his uncle. Remembering his uncle’s greedy and cautious personality, he felt like cursing. He had become the stone thrown to test the waters; if he hadn’t been clever enough to seek benefits for himself, he would have probably been in dire straits right now.
Li Hui stepped towards the treasury gate, flanked by thirty ghost soldiers. As he passed by Jin Mingyang, he said, “Jin Buduan indeed came, but the King of the White Sea took some kind of medicine that greatly boosted his strength. When I came down, he was wreaking havoc. Your uncle is too cautious and lacks the determination to fight—so…”
His voice had already entered the treasury when Jin Mingyang, cautious by nature, hurriedly took out a bronze mirror to examine it. The image appeared unclear, with light and shadow swirling.
Zhang Tianhua’s heart climbed to his throat as he struggled to suppress the agitation brought on by the Blood Ignition Talismans, remaining fully on guard against Jin Mingyang. He didn’t want to go outside, especially since the passage was buried, making escape impossible.
Meanwhile, Li Hui entered the treasury and surveyed the area, finding aside from the coffins and water bottles where Jin Mingyang and Zhang Tianhua had hidden, there were barely any valuable items left. Most everything had been taken by them, as it appeared they had left no stone unturned.
The coffins and water bottles were quite large and of limited use, so they remained in the treasury.
Li Hui strode over, raised his hands, and absorbed the coffins and water bottles, then stood beside Zheng Tianxiang’s corpse, a slight smile playing at his lips.
“While the treasury indeed has nothing worth taking, Brother Zheng here has something.”
Before Jin Mingyang left the treasury, he clearly hadn’t forgotten to take Zheng Tianxiang’s bag of treasures and chain bag. However, after Zheng Tianxiang had been thoroughly searched last time at Frost Town, he had become clever and brought a very discreet belt to secretly stash away valuables.
If it weren’t for the last Spirit Sense Talisman, Li Hui wouldn’t have detected it. Yet just as he took the belt, laughter echoed from outside, “Hahaha, my uncle has arrived! Little Li Hui is inside; let me retrieve him, and then it’s up to my uncle to decide.”
As soon as the words fell, Jin Mingyang stepped into the treasury, his face darkening as he looked at Li Hui and spoke words that were quite unexpected.
