Chapter 42: Competing for the Mist Dragon
Li Hui’s upper body sparkled with golden light, more festive than a golden carp, almost turning him into a little golden figure!
However, he had no time to pay attention to this. Beneath his feet, the mass grave was like a fuse, ready to blow up with a “bang” that everyone would enjoy—at least the Hidden Sky Sect would enjoy it.
“Lord, please don’t let me fall in. I just need to hold on for a few more days.”
At this moment, the cramped storage room was filled with golden mist, and Li Hui couldn’t help but absorb it. His meridians had become significantly thicker; all eighty-one major acupoints were now even more open, and he could clearly sense the positions of the three hundred sixty-five hidden acupoints.
“I’ve heard that everyone’s hidden acupoint positions are different, and they only reveal themselves upon achieving Spirit Motion mastery. Remembering the location of each hidden acupoint is beneficial for entering the Concentrating Spirit stage.”
Regardless of whether the wooden building would collapse, this opportunity was too rare for Li Hui. He quickly memorized everything while keeping an eye on the mass grave; at the first sign of a collapse, he would shout.
Half an hour later, he made a significant discovery.
The existence of these corpses was due to being nourished by the golden mist. Today, he also needed the golden mist for his ascension, so he inadvertently seized the resources, leaving the corpses devoid of their essence until they could only turn to ashes.
In fact, this place was incredibly dangerous; such numerous corpses were ominous. But they had lost in previous battles, didn’t they? The countless ghostly faces turned into Yin Soul Beads, too numerous for Li Hui to bother picking up.
Next came the main event.
Only twelve corpses remained in the mass grave, along with the prince lying on the jade bed. Suddenly, a stream of dragon-shaped golden mist flew out from the pure white jade bed, rising into the air. Its commanding presence was not like mist but rather like a true dragon.
Li Hui opened his mouth wide, thinking, if I could consume this dragon, would my cultivation increase? Wouldn’t it be a dream to catch up to my senior brothers and sisters who have ten years of experience?
The golden mist thickened, and the golden dragon emerged, first revealing a massive dragon head.
However!!!
Why was there a damned “however”? The silver snake bracelet suddenly burst with silver light, instantly devouring most of the dragon’s head.
“Damn it, don’t you only eat magical artifacts and treasures?” Li Hui leaped forward, placing his hands behind his back, and bit down furiously.
I can’t compete! The gap is just too vast!
Li Hui managed to swallow one of the dragon’s horns, but the silver light spun around three times, devouring both the dragon head and dragon body. In the end, he only managed to get a little dragon tail and sat down, his face filled with despair as he pounded the silver snake bracelet. His mood was a tangled mess.
“What a great night snack! Silver snake, you are so untrustworthy, crossing over boundaries! Not satisfied with eating magical artifacts and treasures, you had to snatch the dragon-shaped golden mist right from under my nose.”
“By the way, what exactly is this golden mist dragon?” Li Hui licked his lips, savoring the taste of the dragon horn, and suddenly a spark of inspiration hit him. His mind swirled with countless characters, as if he had read many books all at once.
“Uh!”
“Detailed explanations of geography and topography, the dragon vein trend of Dalong, the total chapter on geomancy, the theory of feng shui…” Li Hui shook his head, and these books instantly elevated his understanding from being lost to the level of a traveler.
“It’s said that there are hidden dragon veins throughout the world, which give birth to Dragon Energy, manifesting as smoke and mist. From the map, Fusu City and the surrounding mountains appear to be a potential dragon pattern, but the golden mist welling up underground from the prince’s palace should really be Dragon Energy, not as simple as an ordinary dragon vein.”
“If corpse energy can cultivate zombies, then what can we grow by placing corpses on Dragon Energy?” The moment the thought entered Li Hui’s mind, the mountain of books in his head shook, as if he were flipping through pages again.
Soon, two books, "True Corpse Tao Te Ching" and "Reversing Heaven and Earth: The Dragon Demon Mechanism," leapt to mind. The answers seemed to leap forth; Dragon Energy had a chance of cultivating a Corpse Emperor directly from corpses, bypassing the lower-level zombie stage, granting consciousness and intelligence. But after successful cultivation, it would harm living beings, draining a dragon vein dry every ten years to sustain itself.
“I understand! Dragon veins are a source of life; no wonder lakes within a thousand miles have dried up, the earth has cracked, and not even a blade of grass can grow. It seems someone is controlling the dragon veins to cultivate corpses; this isn’t a natural disaster but man-made calamity. Thankfully, I inadvertently destroyed the demon lair; otherwise, who knows what might have been cultivated.”
Li Hui felt a small sense of pride, secretly saying, “This is a great deed for the welfare of the people! Shouldn’t it count as accumulating virtue? And it’s a substantial merit.”
Just when he thought this, a deafening roar echoed in his mind. The atmosphere swirled like clouds, shaking mountains and earth, and he didn’t know what ancient Buddhist scriptures stored in the scripture hall suddenly surged forth.
“Limitless merit may become clouds, Great Perfection of light clouds, Great Compassion of light clouds, Great Wisdom of light clouds, Great Prajna of light clouds, Great Samadhi of light clouds, Great Auspiciousness of light clouds, Great Fortune of light clouds, Great Merits of light clouds, Great Refuge of light clouds, Great Praise of light clouds…”
“Countless paths, knowing the heart is essential; countless practices, purifying the heart is essential. To know the heart, there is no better way than to chant the Buddha. Remembering the Buddha and chanting the Buddha, when present and future come, one will certainly see the Buddha. No need for convenience, just opening one’s own heart, and the essence of a pure heart is nothing without chanting the Buddha. A thought resonating is a thought of Buddha, and every thought resonating is a thought of Buddha. Throw the Buddha’s name into the chaotic heart, and the chaotic heart must acknowledge the Buddha.”
“Sariputta, form is not other than emptiness, emptiness is not other than form; form is precisely emptiness, emptiness is precisely form. Feelings, thoughts, actions, and consciousness are likewise.” Sariputta is a representation of all forms, not born, not extinguished, not impure, not pure, neither increasing nor decreasing.”
“Therefore, all sentient beings in all worlds, upon hearing and believing in his name and virtues, immediately enter the rightful position and are born into the pure and joyful Buddhist nation. Therefore, seers among the sentient beings, even if they are among humans, due to their past merits, upon hearing the brilliant name, if they believe, accept, or chant it, they will instantly remove countless offenses of birth and death.”
Li Hui was stunned, feeling as if hundreds of monks were chanting scriptures in his mind. Buddhist cultivation was also a form of practice, but they did not cultivate the Dao, only the Buddha.
“Stop, stop, please stop!”
After a struggle, the Buddhist scriptures finally calmed down, frustratingly making it impossible for him to recapture the feeling that came from reading a book a hundred times until its meaning revealed itself.
“Sigh! I was only fantasizing. Someone as virtuous as me shouldn’t have a short life, right? What are you all doing suddenly causing chaos in my mind?” Li Hui patted his head, then again patted his head. Then he grabbed his white hair, and a light bulb lit up in his mind.
“Ah! No one said I couldn’t be a handsome little monk. Otherwise, this head of white hair is too eye-catching; after all, I still look young. If I switch to a monk’s robe with a bald head, I’d blend in unnoticed, and who knows, I might even get free food and drinks at a temple…” Perhaps influenced by the Buddhist scriptures, Li Hui unexpectedly considered pretending to be a monk.
This night passed grippingly, mainly because the wooden building seemed to be suspended in the air. With the golden mist continuously spewing out, the last twelve corpses in the mass grave also began to wither, albeit at a slow pace.
Through observation, Li Hui confirmed that a force was holding up the wooden building from beneath. It must be the last effect of the Corpse Formation, and as the twelve corpses gradually vanished, the wooden building was counting down to its collapse.
“In two and a half days, at most three days, this place will be finished. I need to make sure the young widow upstairs avoids danger.”
Li Hui suddenly changed his expression and muttered softly, “Ugh, don’t ruin her reputation. The prince clearly died before the wedding, so she can’t be called a widow; she’s just a young lady, not yet married!”
