Chapter 38: Princess Mu Qianyun
Li Hui finally made it to the Wooden Building, glancing around and feeling a chill run down his spine.
Even though he had participated in a corpse transportation team before, he had never seen so many corpses at once. Most of these people had died tragically, blood oozing from their seven orifices, eyes wide open in death, their faces distorted in agony, leaving him feeling horrified.
Once inside the Wooden Building, Li Hui noticed that the only loft where the master and servant resided was built on the original structure, so there were no hidden layers.
At that moment, he suddenly felt a tightness in his chest as he saw a nearly invisible thread flying toward him from the direction of the Jade Pavilion.
Despite being just a thin strand, it gave off an aura of Heaven’s Net, and he quickly heard a roar: “Who is it? Who dares to touch my magic treasure? No matter where you hide, I will find you!”
“Crack, crack, crack…” The air around the palace crackled with lightning, and the roar became a thunderclap.
In moments, Li Hui was panting heavily, unable to fathom the power of the one who had unleashed that roar.
However, it was clear that the situation was far from over as another transparent thread swept in from the palace, even more subtle than the previous one.
“What is this thing?” Li Hui shouted in his mind.
As the thread touched the Wooden Building, it seemed to know the secrets of the place, carefully sweeping over the corpses. However, as the thread drew nearer, Li Hui felt a warmth in his chest, and a slight ripple surrounded him, causing the subtle thread to veer off course.
“Hmm?”
As the ripple faded, Li Hui could see clearly that the object causing the deviation was the golden pearl he had found in the spinal column of the giant corpse on the fifth level of the Jade Pavilion.
“What a treasure! It seems this pearl can evade enemy tracking.” Li Hui steadied himself, mentally gearing up to find the room the master and servant used to store miscellaneous items. Without caring about the corpses in the surrounding compartments, he pulled out a medicine gourd from his waist, uncorked it, and took three of each type of pill: Tranquility Pill, Spirit Nurturing Pill, Bone Refinement Pill, and Toxic Removal Pill, along with one Dew Pill for nourishment, before promptly falling into a deep sleep.
The Tranquility Pill helped regulate the meridians, the Spirit Nurturing Pill nourished spiritual energy, the Bone Refinement Pill strengthened bones, and the Toxic Removal Pill dispelled toxins.
As for the Dew Pill, it was an excellent healing medicine used by low-level cultivators to accelerate recovery from both external and internal injuries and even had some detoxification effects, making it a great value.
Li Hui felt completely drained; how could he function without consuming pills? Additionally, he felt a stinging pain where the white rodent grass had fallen off him.
He was certainly not unscathed on the sixth level of the Jade Pavilion; at least three heavy blows had struck his back. Though he hadn’t bled, there were bruises; fortunately, the array had been thrown into chaos at that time, and the magical artifacts lacked supervision, thus their power was significantly diminished.
His sleep didn’t go unnoticed; chaos erupted outside.
The law enforcement elder of the Hidden Sky Sect, Hu Haiquan, led a team of twenty-two Inner Sect Disciples, combing through the streets and alleys of Fusu City with a thorough search. Anyone with even a hint of cultivation was captured and interrogated repeatedly.
By noon the next day, not only was Fusu City in an uproar; the search area had expanded to a fifty-mile radius outside the city, as they practically combed through the ground. They even issued a bounty, promising one hundred pieces of Miao Jade and three magical artifacts to anyone who could capture Zhang Tianhua of the Jade Symbol Sect.
Wow! This created quite a stir.
The Hidden Sky Sect audaciously tracked down disciples of the Jade Symbol Sect on their own territory. Zhang Tianhua’s name had disappeared for years, and his sudden reappearance caused quite a sensation. Given that the female disciples of the Hidden Sky Sect were in the majority, everyone could only respond with laughter.
In this way, Zhang Tianhua was inexplicably caught in the crossfire. He was skilled at teasing female cultivators, but being blamed unexpectedly, and for such a massive offense, was the last thing he ever imagined.
Li Hui slept soundly, unaware that black smoke was rising from the floor beneath him.
This cold black smoke had gradually filled the storage room, and he faintly heard crying sounds, the smoke revealing faces that seemed to break free.
Suddenly, the silver snake bracelet around his wrist seemed to come alive, slowly writhing around him.
Li Hui shivered in his sleep, as thirty-six acupoints on his body shone with golden light. Among these, nine major acupoints glimmered with purple light, appearing like shadows, swords, and insects, emanating an overwhelming aura.
If the leader of the Jade Symbol Sect had witnessed this scene, he would have been utterly astonished. The Myriad Form Purple Absolute God Symbol he had buried with his own hands would only trigger at the moment of the host’s death. But here was someone alive, activating it; not even a master of the Bosa realm could manage such a feat.
“Ow, ow, ow…”
Countless ghostly faces in the black smoke let out sounds that resembled weeping, sorrow, and curses, fixated on Li Hui before charging toward him.
Meanwhile, Princess Mu Qianyun, trimming her bonsai in the loft, paused, sensing that something was about to happen. Suddenly, she turned to the cup on the table, noticing ripples forming in the tea. Water droplets began to leap out, and she could feel a distinct tremor.
“Bilu…” Mu Qianyun exclaimed, remembering that her personal maid Bilu had gone out earlier that morning to buy ingredients, as the palace’s rations had grown increasingly strict, with meals sporadic.
The tremors were swift but short-lived, followed by noise from downstairs.
“Bilu, is that you?” Mu Qianyun called as she walked toward the stairs, but then suddenly halted. Princess Yu Yan had told her to mind her own business when staying upstairs, and even if there was some commotion where the cultivator was, it wouldn’t be strange; outsiders didn’t know that the nominal princess rarely descended from the upper floor.
Suddenly, more sounds came from downstairs, punctuated with “thud, thud, thud,” not too loud, yet she heard it clearly.
“Bilu?” Mu Qianyun called again, but the noise continued.
Taking a deep breath, she steeled her resolve and took a step downstairs.
Having always been accompanied by Bilu when going down, being alone now felt chilling, as if many gazes in the corners were prying at her, wanting to strip her bare and see through her.
“Calm down! Whenever something significant happens, there should be calmness,” Mu Qianyun reassured herself as she reached the entrance to the storage room.
Her delicate jade hand grasped the doorknob, and the sound was so close she felt her heart racing. Slowly, she opened the wooden door.
“Thud, thud, thud…”
As she opened the door, the sound grew louder, revealing a bizarre scene inside. Dazzling purple light spewed forth, shattering the faces that lunged at her. Each time a face was crushed, a black bead fell to the ground.
Countless black beads had already scattered across the floor.
“What is this…?” Mu Qianyun covered her mouth to stifle a scream that could attract calamity.
In fact, there were few faces left; the earlier onslaught had been overwhelming, and the purple light had nearly become uncontrollable. Thankfully, the silver snake bracelet had been well-fed; otherwise, this miraculous scene couldn’t have unfolded.
Before Mu Qianyun could make her escape, more black smoke billowed from the floor, quickly coalescing into a tattered dragon robe.
The robe floated in the air, draping itself over a young man.
His sudden appearance was shocking, his expression dazed as he turned to look at Mu Qianyun, then suddenly displayed an expression.
“Qianyun? This king? Why am I…?” Before he could finish, the purple light surged, and the thundering sounds rang out continuously. The silver snake bracelet activated and opened its mouth wide, sucking in the tattered dragon robe, which burst apart into thousands of tiny specks of light, soaring toward Li Hui’s wrist.
