Chapter 28: Flying Head Burial
At this moment, without harming the talisman’s own power, Li Hui found himself unable to output spiritual energy to control them. However, it was already a significant advantage; otherwise, with just two spirit patterns activated, it would be impossible to duel against other sect’s outer disciples, let alone gain a slight upper hand. Using artifacts—was that even feasible?
Even though the Jade Symbol Sect based its foundation on talisman methods, the number of artifacts produced each year was limited. Plus, the rapid consumption of these artifacts meant that over time, they would become ineffective even if left unused. So, being able to simultaneously pull out two artifacts was not something any miscellaneous disciple could achieve; only inner sect disciples had that level of strength.
Not being able to use his talismans didn’t mean that Li Hui had lost his combat power. He prepared his nine-chain bag; once anything unusual occurred, he would immediately unleash the Four Yin Four Yang Flying Head Burial Array.
This flying head array was constructed from talismans that were magically transformed into heads, and it consumed less energy than controlling an artifact. The advantage of talismans lay in this aspect; hence, even miscellaneous disciples from the Jade Symbol Sect could seize prime opportunities against disciples from other sects, creating pressure in battles.
Of course, the premise was having enough hidden cards. Once they exhausted their spirit talismans, Jade Symbol Sect disciples typically became helpless prey.
The dust storm stirred up by the Earth Yellow Dust Storm Blade gradually dispersed, allowing the main road to calm once again…
Cheng Yuyan wore a red palace outfit embroidered with magnificent phoenix patterns. Judging by Li Hui’s eye for fashion, this outfit was most likely authentic.
She slowly raised her hand as if to take off her mask.
Zhang Tianhua laughed heartily, “Hahaha, you are indeed wise! We should be honest with each other; wearing a mask is not truly sincere. I’ve heard the Hidden Sky Sect has many beautiful female disciples, so today, let me enjoy a moment with one and become a son-in-law of the Hidden Sky Sect.”
“Hidden Sky Sect?” Li Hui found this name somewhat unfamiliar, but Zhang Tianhua clearly knew its significance; the seasoned veteran he was, he understood.
“Oh? If seeing my face makes you still want to indulge, then I won’t refuse; on the contrary, I am quite willing.” The woman said coldly, taking off her mask in front of Zhang Tianhua’s eager gaze.
“Uh?” Both Zhang Tianhua and Li Hui stood frozen.
How could they not be stunned? What kind of face was this? It was covered in jagged scars, and surrounding the scars were swollen areas where various colorful toxins spread. Her nose had collapsed inward, making it hard to discern any human features at all.
“Haha! Come on! Young master, I come from a noble background. Even if my face is ugly, my body still has some appeal.” As she spoke, the woman began to loosen her clothing, startling Zhang Tianhua, who quickly shut his eyes.
“You disgusting woman, are you trying to make me sick? I’ll quit lusting after women for good because of you.” Zhang Tianhua kept his eyes closed, believing that as long as he did not picture that horrifying face, it wouldn’t affect his love for beauty.
The woman did not genuinely loosen her clothing; after that little interruption, she paused and gazed thoughtfully at Li Hui, who dared to look directly at her.
Li Hui refused to close his eyes, nor would he avert his gaze. He kept a close watch on the enemy’s every move while also staying vigilant against Zhang Tianhua. As for the woman’s face, he had seen many swollen corpses in battle; he had enough resolve to face this.
Upon closer inspection, it was clear that the scars on her face had been deliberately inflicted one after another, occupying most of her visage, ensuring that no space remained between the scars once they healed. The poison was not acute but chronic, continuously eroding her flesh and causing great harm.
With his eyes still shut, Zhang Tianhua flew toward Li Hui, smiling, “It seems my junior brother finds you more pleasing to the eye. We are fellow disciples, so we should be humble and kind to one another. Why the hostility?”
Just as he spoke, Zhang Tianhua suddenly attacked Li Hui without any concern for the watching female cultivator.
As a decent, idealistic, and crafty flower thief, nothing irked him more than a man being more handsome than him, especially someone far more so.
Li Hui, nicknamed Li Yingjun, was the recognized pretty boy among the outer disciples of the Jade Symbol Sect, adored by many senior and junior sisters. Nearly all male cultivators fell short when compared to him, especially now that he sported a new stripe of white hair, which made his charming aura stand out even more.
Zhang Tianhua was more interested in capturing Li Hui than simply intercepting Cheng Yuyan. He wanted to figure out how this fellow had become so powerful all of a sudden. Just a few days ago at the mountain entrance, he clearly hadn’t activated any spirit patterns, yet he emerged from the sect so impressive.
This was utterly unimaginable. Even with his keen eyes, he couldn’t discern Li Hui’s secrets, as if the boy stood shrouded in mist, clouded and full of mystery.
Suddenly, light and shadow struck, and nine heads dropped to the ground before Li Hui.
It should be noted that cultivators in the Spirit Motion stage do not possess the ability to fly. Even when they reach the Concentrating Spirit stage, they still cannot fly on their own; they must rely on artifacts or talismans to float—even if it is only hovering. Something like Zheng Tianxiang’s wings was quite rare, not even available to many inner sect disciples.
Yet here was Zhang Tianhua, who apparently used some kind of artifact, allowing him to linger in the air for a long time and move at a speed that could only be described as flying, like a tired bird returning to its nest.
“Command!”
Li Hui concentrated intently as he formed a hand seal, thinking, “Don’t mess this up! Had I known it would be this dangerous, I should have tested the Four Yin Four Yang Flying Head Burial Array somewhere safe beforehand.”
Blood flames swirled around him as Zhang Tianhua approached, suddenly drenched in cold sweat.
“What the hell?” The heads had already unwrapped themselves from their wrappings.
“Bite him to death,” Li Hui commanded, feeling an easy control over these heads, as if they were extensions of his own body. They did not hold back—attacking in unison! To not swarm would be an injustice given their numbers.
“Damn it, this is…” Zhang Tianhua quickly opened his eyes and forgot about the calm he’d tried to maintain, shocked to see the four heads jumping up high as if they had wings, gliding straight toward him with their mouths snapping.
Cheng Yuyan felt a chill in her heart; she hadn’t anticipated that this Jade Symbol Sect disciple still had hidden tricks, and they seemed quite formidable.
“Get lost!”
Zhang Tianhua whipped his sleeves, and light patterns emanated from his arms and legs, forming hundreds of glimmering feathers that swept outwards to repel the four withered heads.
Li Hui cried out, lifting one of the yin-yang heads so that its face faced Zhang Tianhua.
“Woo, woo, woo, woo…” The eight heads squirmed, displaying facial expressions that seemed both mournful and joyous as they rolled across the ground, leaving deep impressions in their wake.
“Hundred Fracture Golden Wind Talisman!”
Zhang Tianhua reacted quickly, somehow having a mottled talisman paper pinched between his fingers, appearing as if it would disintegrate in the next moment.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…” Suddenly, a golden whirlwind spun up, crazily attacking outward.
As the wind blades struck the heads, they clanged loudly, like metal weapons clashing. To his shock, Zhang Tianhua heard a great explosion, and the nine heads simultaneously unleashed terrifying demon energy, spreading a crimson hue that transformed the ground into demonic soil.
